  1. Rope and Rear Window. By far the best Hitchcock films and they are both pre-1970 as per your requirement. Rope is a clever exercise in concealment with a groundbreaking production, and Rear Window is a tense and deliciously filmed thriller. Both star James Stewart.
  2. Precisely my point. Hemsworth is wasted and relegated to a few kisses and hugs. For a 2hr 20min film, to concentrate on just one plotline suggests a very bad and sloppy narrative structure.
  3. It's awesome, isn't it?! The Expendables 3 will probably also be a high grosser, and might even be a contender for this thread if it drops off in the US like many are predicting.
  4. To me, there is no difference between a least favourite movies list and a worst movies ever made list. I can only choose from the movies I have seen, therefore the worst movies ever made (in my opinion) are also the least favourite movies I have seen. No, I do not think it was well-made, hence putting Citizen Kane on to my list. Some films are made to entertain, some are made to educate, some are made to challenge you as a viewer, but I do not believe any movie is made to bore the living hell out of me, but Citizen Kane did that, so to me it is a terrible movie. Even a movie that I hate, like Stephen King's I.T., can evoke fear, which is what it was designed to do (as it's a horror production), so even though I hate the movie (because it scares me shitless) I would never [again] put it on a worst movies ever list. But the 36 movies I listed above have no redeemable qualities whatsoever. They equate to the worst in film-making that I have ever witnessed. If you're not ok with that, then make your own list. There is no point in doing the thread if you believe there is a select pool of titles that we should choose from because that does not open up the thread to the myriad of film tastes and cultures out there that enjoy film. I haven't seen the universally hated Pluto Nash, but if I did and it kept me entertained for more than a few minutes, then I would have no problem in labelling it a better film than Citizen Kane. Maybe you're guided by legacy and/or IMDB, but I am not. Just accept it, buddy, we all have different tastes. I personally disagree with Goffe that Escape Plan is on his list (I think it's thebest film of the year), but that's his taste, not mine, and it doesn't insult me in any way.
  5. Surely that's the only reason why they should be on a worst list. It is, afterall, a personal worst list. I'd argue that it's worse to not include a film you absolutely loathe just because lots of other people like it and/or it's regarded as a "classic". If it's against the norm, so be it, but that is not the motivation behind hating a movie. I assure you.
  6. This baffled me too. Donald Sutherland and his capital leaders could easily kill Katniss, but they look weak just waiting and waiting and waiting until Katniss eventually builds up an army to overthrow them. It's sloppy writing. And the love triangle (if you can call it that) is awful. They should delete it from the films as it is an unneccesary distraction from the central theme.

  8. Yeah, it's medium. But I can totally understand and even forgive anyone that creates a poll for the "animation genre" with titles like Toy Story, Madagascar and Despicable Me since these types of movies all share the same qualities and are all for children. When people talk about animation on a box office site like this, they also generally refer to films like the ones I mentioned above, so it's understandable when it gets mixed up as a genre.
  9. I could go into depth, but I'd rather not waste any more time than I already have on these films. The first two were utterly boring and the third was also boring but I loathed the non-linear narrative - a film is impossible to enjoy when you don't know what's going on.
  10. Wow, you really saw all of those emotions? I pretty much saw a face where an actress was trying so hard to be angry that the whole scene fell flat.
  11. I'd love to read your reasoning for including 300, Anna and the King, and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
  12. The same could be said for any film. But to have a premiere, there at least needs to be some popularity for the content. I imagine only Chinese pictures or co-productions would get premieres.
  13. None of the cast give a shit about China. None of them would fly here. So it'd be a rubbish premiere. Plus, I can't see anybody being excited for a premiere of THG. If it was Transformers: Age of Extinction, then I'd agree with you that a premiere would be awesome.
  14. Saw it last night. Boring teen shit. Marginally better than the first. D
  15. Nooooo. It'll be up to $125m very soon. It still has Japan, Australia, Spain, New Zealand, South Korea, Norway, Sweden, Poland and Turkey to go. While they will probably not equate to $25m, it has other smaller markets to open in, plus holdovers like China etc. It could surprise in Japan.

  17. Budget was $70m, but since filming was done in New Orleans, they got a lot of tax deductions. Budget spend was around $50m.
  18. It's up to $103m worldwide. I see a $150m total, which is excellent for a movie that a) cost only $50m and b ) stars two actors that people regularly write off and that starred in two bombs at the start of the year. It's looking up for Grudge Match, which I predict to be a holiday sensation (in the US, at least). It's harder to gauge whether it will do well overseas because its theme, boxing, doesn't necesarily translate that well overseas unless the title features 'Rocky' in it. I'm hoping its comedy will be the glue that attracts people from all cultures. I am sure it will also get a release in China too, so that should help things along. I am thinking of a worldwide total around $200m.
