  8. Guys, chill out. It will not be a disappointment if it doesn't reach TFA. It is still not clear if it will or not but it will not be a disappointment either way.

  10. Weekend 03–06/05/2018 Ranking Title Weekend admissions % change from last weekend Total admissions Week 1 Avengers: Infinity War 53,772 -58.5% 274,064 2 2 Truth or Dare 8,052 – 8,052 1 3 Les as de la jungle [French] 5,055 +15.3% 11,558 2 4 Overboard 3,481 – 3,481 1 5 Anon 3,043 – 3,043 1 6 Revenge 2,679 – 2,679 1 7 Peter Rabbit 2,370 +6.0% 50,963 6 8 Sami Blood 1,395 – 1,395 1 9 Leo Da Vinci: Missione Monna Lisa [English-language Italian] 1,334 +13.6% 20,902 6 10 Sherlock Gnomes 1,310 -1.3% 38,506 7 Source: http://www.grandmagazine.gr/ngine/article/3988/box-office-oi-avengers-kai-pali-stin-korufh 'Infinity War' blasted past all other 2018 films and all other MCU films last weekend to become the most-attended film of the franchise and will pass 'Batman v Superman' (277,245 admissions) on Monday to become the 5th biggest comic-book film since 2003 (no data on 'Spider-Man' and 'X-Men'). Its weekend drop was quite average for a superhero film, below that of the 'Avengers' (49.9%) and 'The Dark Knight' (52.0%) but above 'Age of Ultron' (62.6%) and 'Spider-Man 3' (62.7%). Although this was no done deal last week, the film will almost certainly cross 300K admissions and it even appears capable of giving 'The Dark Knight' a run for its money to become the 4th biggest comic-book film. Since it faces no competition for another 10 days, until 'Deadpool 2' arrives, this seems like a considerable possibility. Overall, an impressive performance for a country where Marvel has never really been a thing (except for Spider-Man). The year is far from over, but 'Infinity War' already has a shot at remaining the year's top film. Other holdovers had very impressive holds for unknown reasons (there was no holiday) but overall the market is tanking, when the Avengers are taken out of the equation: 91,299 admissions were sold in total last weekend and only 37,527 admissions, when subtracting 'Infinity War's earnings.
  11. In 2012, The Avengers made $38.8M on Tuesday (excl. Singapore, Thailand, Bulgaria and Latvia) and $19.6M on Wednesday (excl. Singapore, Thailand, Bulgaria, Latvia). That is a 49.5% drop. Infinity War dropped 50.1%, which is a very similar drop and definitely good news. REVISED DATA: Gitesh Pandya (https://forums.boxofficetheory.com/topic/21671-the-fate-of-the-furious-10100 m-overseas-●-12360 m-worldwide/?do=findComment&comment=2965145) doesn't seem to be the best when it comes to accuracy, even though his estimates are still very close to the actuals. Therefore I found some Forbes articles that mention different numbers for the daily totals of Fate of the Furious: $437.2M over the weekend and $492.1M through the Monday: https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2017/04/18/box-office-fate-of-the-furious-racing-past-600-million-worldwide/#5f9b1dee169c -> this leads to a $54.9M Monday $531.7M through Tuesday: https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2017/04/19/box-office-fate-of-the-furious-zooms-past-logan-to-be-years-second-biggest-hit/#7c71ae76580c -> leads to a $39.6M Tuesday $565.1M through Wednesday: https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2017/04/20/box-office-fate-of-the-furious-nears-700-million-worldwide/#439b5b8a73c9 -> this leads to a $33.4M Wednesday I appreciate that these overseas totals may be estimates but there is no indication that Gitesh Pandya's numbers are not estimates or that they are more accurate. THEREFORE: MONDAY: Infinity War DID score the biggest overseas Monday on record with $55.2M, beating the $54.9M made by Fate of the Furious TUESDAY: Infinity War did score a record overseas Tuesday with $64.5M WEDNESDAY: However, Infinity War did not score the biggest overseas Wednesday (clarification: we are talking about the Wednesday after a film's first weekend). It is the 5th biggest. Here is a list: Iron Man 3: $65.6M [because of opening day in China] Star Wars: The Force Awakens: $38.4M [because of midnight showings in Greece – LOL just kidding] Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2: $36.4M [the BOM articleon HP8's Wednesday says $35.2M but this is an estimate. The actual can be calculated by using the Thursday article and updating previous days with actuals - e.g. Monday was $41M estimated but updated to $42M with actuals by using the Tuesday article] The Fate of the Furious: $33.4M If you have any other data, please share.
  12. The goal is to make > $745M by Sunday, which is the second-Sunday record achieved by Fate of the Furious last year.
  13. Only two films have earned "around 1 billion rubles" on opening weekend: Pirates 5 (1.050 billion) and Deadpool (0.964 billion). It may even break the opning weekend record but even if it ends up grossing slightly less than Deadpool, I don't see how that would be "behind global trends". That being said, I do think its OW will be #2 at least and above 1 billion rubles, if not #1.
  14. If it drops less than 55% next weekend and has an expectedly big gross in Russia ($40M) and China ($300M) then I don't see how it wouldn't reach $2B.
  15. UPDATED Monday total is $55.2M and is 2nd biggest OS Monday, missing the record by $0.5M. It is behind Fate of the Furious ($55.7M). $64.5M Tuesday is a record, beating The Avengers ($42.3M) and The Force Awakens ($41.3M) which are now at #2 and #3 respectively. Fate of the Furious made $39.1M on its first Tuesday. The increase from Monday was 16.8%. Marvel's The Avengers, when removing the openings of Singapore, Thaliand, Bulgaria and Latvia (about $3.5M) sold $38.8M on Tuesday, which is a 17.2% increase. Therefore, Infinity War's 16.8% increase is quite similar.
  16. I agree that life has changed dramatically and I have stressed this enough in my report. That doesn't mean we can't compare. It just means we have to be careful about the conclusions we draw from these comaprisons. I have said that, all in all, 'Infinity War' has done quite well, which I don't think is an unreasonable conclusion. However, there is no way I could call it "great". It earned less than 'Fifty Shades of Grey' (140,443 admissions) and that says a lot already...
  17. Tuesday is May 1st, which is basically Labor Day for the entire world (minus the UK and the US). It is a public holiday in all other countries, therefore it makes sense that the previous evening (Monday) would be a very busy day at the cinemas. Tuesday grosses will be even bigger, just like they were for the first Avengers, 6 years ago, when May 1st also fell on a Tuesday.
  18. This is quite evident with big blockbusters that fail to match the records achieved elsewhere. '300' still holds that opening weekend record at about 320,000 admissions, while the next film is more than 100,000 admissions lower: 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' at 219,696 admisisons. Both were released more than a decade ago. In fact, the biggest opening of the last decade is '2012' at 184,475 admissions (released in late 2009). In light of the above, 'Infinity War' has done quite well. MCU Rank Title Opening weekend Total Release date Multiplier 1 Avengers: Infinity War 129,549 150,496 26/04/18 1.16 2 Captain America: Civil War 101,800 215,155 05/05/16 2.11 3 Avengers: Age of Ultron 94,250 224,334 30/04/15 2.38 4 The Avengers 75,755 242,565 26/04/12 3.20 5 Iron Man 3 66,278 206,006 25/04/13 3.11 6 Iron Man 61,400 146,800 01/05/08 2.39 7 Iron Man 2 61,080 154,360 29/04/10 2.53 8 Thor: Ragnarok 60,036 165,522 02/11/17 2.76 9 Doctor Strange 58,232 169,010 27/10/16 2.90 10 Thor 55,630 125,857 28/04/11 2.26 11 Thor: The Dark World 51,418 128,339 21/11/13 2.50 12 Spider-Man: Homecoming 41,556 127,663 06/07/17 3.07 13 Black Panther 41,104 153,120 15/02/18 3.73 14 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 35,156 84,120 04/05/17 2.39 15 Captain America: The Winter Soldier 32,489 108,964 03/04/14 3.35 16 Guardians of the Galaxy 25,646 88,292 04/09/15 3.44 17 Captain America: The First Avenger 24,850 65,938 01/09/11 2.65 18 The Incredible Hulk 22,000 70,000 12/06/08 3.18 19 Ant-Man 18,674 47,985 17/09/15 2.57 'Infinity War' is almost guaranteed to beat 'The Avengers' and become the highest-grossing MCU film so far. Thanks to selling 20,947 admissions during Wednesday previews, it even has a shot at beating 'Batman v Superman' (277,245 admissions), which would make it the 5th biggest superhero film on record. These previews explain why it did not beat the opening day of 'Civil War', which had no previews. If it beats 'BvS', then it's got: The Dark Knight: 339,520 admissions The Dark Knight Rises: 346,585 admissions Spider-Man 3: 366,987 admissions Spider-Man 2: 385,700 admissions However, I think it is unlikely that it will beat any of the above 4 films. The entire weekend sold 158,758 admissions, but when removing the admissions of 'Infinity War', the total is a depressing 29,209 admissions. All holdovers droppped heavily, selling only 18,420 admissions, while non-Avengers newcomers sold an even worse 10,789 admissions in total. At least there's 'Deadpool 2' and 'Solo' to look forward to, otherwise the next two months will be dead quiet...
