I doubt Disney's waiting for the Avatar sequels, especially since Rob Marshall already has an underwater sequence in his film that already looks pretty solid judging off the trailer, and there's already casting rumors for Ariel and Ursula Little Mermaid will likely be the December 2021 movie. -
I don't think this is going to stick. It's probably just Fox playing musical chairs before the merger happens, as well as spreading word that this won't be an Oscar contender this year. Disney will probably move it somewhere else on the schedule later in the year. I can see this opening in November or December in limited release.

Venom's now a lock, so now there's only one more movie left. Unless Halloween explodes on its OW (with presales being strong, that seems like a possibility), it's basically a race between Grinch, Fantastic Beasts, and Ralph 2. Pretty interesting conclusion in all honesty. PS: Han, if you so much as dare mention Bohemian Rhapsody, I'm flying to Florida and slapping you silly. -

Ah yes, opening a movie about summer vacation in the middle of October makes so much sense.

They just moved Escape Room to the January 4 weekend, but yeah. It's still confusing to me no studio wants to take advantage of the barren January line-up and keep all of their stuff in December. Move some combination of Mortal Engines, Holmes & Watson, and Second Act there, and both months benefit.
