  1. You underestimate the power of the Sandler effect. They really should have just done a trailer just showing the video game characters invading Earth without Sandler appearing and hoped that people didn't realise he was in this.
  2. With that number Ant-Man would have a higher first Tuesday than CA1.
  3. This whole idea of calling movie with massive box office reminds me of an article I read that said that SW7 was almost guaranteed to make $2 billion and if it didn't make that then the blame would be on Abrams, it literally actually said that. Kind of interested to see the reaction to SW7 on OW given how many people seem to have forgotten that it's opening in December.
  4. So basically every single preview crowd for a movie ever. I had a fantastic crowd for Terminator Genisys, didn't really seem to help that movie.
  5. I like TDK and I like Eckhart, but casting him as Harvey Dent was a mistake. As soon as he becomes Two Face his performance falls apart to the point he almost takes me out of the climax of the film.
  6. I couldn't imagine anything worse then them showing Captain America failing to save people and creating another sad moment for him. The man has literally had his life ripped apart, forced to live in world he didn't know and he still has to take the lead because apparently everyone else is susceptible to shouting out Hail Hydra. Can he not have one movie where he is happy before once again being thrown into the never ending drama of his life in CA3. '
  7. Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget, Budget. What was I saying, oh yeah Budget. There is no benchmark for a SH film, each one is judged on its own merits based on how much profit it made. Ant-Man made a sizeable profit therefore it is a success.
  8. A movie called Suicide Squad, as in suicide, as in killing yourself. People on the internet may think that's a good title, but the GA will think that's a sick and disturbing title and I'll agree with them. It does Watchmen numbers at best.
  9. The only people disappointed are those who looked at GOTG OW and didn't understand why it did as well as it did. Other studios would kill to have a 58M OW as the floor for their movies, especially when it's accompanied by a good OS number. If you were someone who didn't follow box office you'd think Marvel had just released a bomb, rather than a movie that will make a sizeable profit.
  10. The Ant-Man number in the title at the moment is the OS number, 56M, which is actually pretty good based on the markets it opened in. With good legs and help from China it should reach more than 250M OS.
  11. CA was in a similar position after its first movie, actually a worse one when you consider the budget. Plus making a profit just based on it's box office is good, it means you're just making pure profit from the ancillary markets. That wasn't the question though, the fact is that there are plenty of sequels to movies that have done worse to the point that they couldn't have made a profit based on box office, X-Men FC comes to mind. Why would Ant-Man, which is being well received, not be able to get a sequel.
  12. Really someone explain, what exactly is it about the numbers that Ant-Man is doing that doesn't justify a sequel. Especially when other movie with larger budgets have gotten sequels with the same numbers.
  13. There are not many things that could make me give up on Marvel but going with a Captain Marvel movie over an Ant-Man sequel would do it.
  14. That's the rumour, but I doubt they do that. It would be an unnecessary expense for someone who is only going to take away screen time from other characters. If there's no Ant-Man 2, then there's no reason to do that.
  15. Blame their marketing teams, who just couldn't seem to find a way to sell Ant-Man or Tomorrowland. With Tomorrowland there may be some excuse, since I can't imagine there was much else they could do based on the quality of the movie. Ant-Man though, that first trailer was just incompetence, a view that I've seen shared by a lot of people on twitter.
  16. It's funny because MCU is probably the only franchise other than DCCU capable of making movies in a diverse set of genre's, and they do, from a Bourne style action movie to a space opera to a robot uprising movie to a heist movie. Perhaps they are cookie cutter movies, but it's strange that I don't remember a story of two fathers tyring to win back their daughters being the central theme of any other MCU movie.
  17. I'd be very surprised if Ant-Man doesn't do at least 70M with that number. It had no hype, a large amount of Marvel fans were against the movie and the character isn't that popular in the comics. There's no reason for this to be frontloaded.
  18. I'm not sure how any of that changes the fact that it's only movie I've ever seen that has caused people to walk out of the cinema during the film. I understand your point though, I mean the movie is full things that don't have any purpose in terms of the plot and only serve to allow to director to tell you how good he is at film making. It's a bore of a movie, but it sure was a well made film. If there was any real substance in the movie it might just be watchable.
  19. Birdman remains the only movie I've ever seen at the cinema where people have walked out during the movie.
  20. I would point out that adding 3D to an already adjusted number is pointless, since 3D is already partially counted in the average ticket price, but last time I did that I was told that there was no way that 3D tickets would be included in the average ticket price. Apparently they calculate the average ticket price by using only normal ticket prices.
  21. Deadline showing off some great math skills there. Even if it stays flat of Saturday and has a larger than usual decrease of Sunday it should still be higher than 181M.
  22. Who are these people who are watching the other superhero movies but not watching TA2 and how is it managing to make this much on OW when this is occurring? The fact is that there is no fatigue, a percentage of people of don't normally go to see Superhero movies went to see TA because it was the first movie of its kind. Those people did not go to TA2 because it no longer has that first of its kind appeal. You can not be fatigued from a genre of movie when you don't usually watch that genre of movie anyway. That's like saying you watched the first episode of a TV series and stopped after that because you were fatigued. You weren't fatigued, the series just doesn't interest you and so you stopped watching it.
