  1. Most likely Mufasa: The Lion King. The promotion for that seems ready to begin, and would make perfect sense as one of Disney's attachments with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in less than a month.
  2. I remember watching The White Bronco Chase as it was happening with my family gathered in front of the TV like it was yesterday. Can't quite claim to have a "RIP" for this one.
  3. Bowing at Cannes. Cannes Film Festival 2024 Lineup Revealed: Coppola, Cronenberg, More (variety.com)
  4. Bowing at Cannes, can probably be moved to the main section. Also, first official photo: Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump in 'The Apprentice' First Look (variety.com)
  5. Joseph Quinn is receiving the (paid for by the studio and his team) Breakthrough Performer of the Year award at CinemaCon so a trailer for this is bound to be shown off there since the same studio is behind this and A Quiet Place: Day One. Unlikely it's made available to the public yet though.
  6. Or they have a crystal ball showing people not being happy with the nominations this (really strike-impacted) year and want to make the nominations the Bad News Friday dump heading off into the long weekend (cause that's the Friday of MLK Weekend).
  7. Also I checked sales for Civil War near me and it seems to be selling fine but nothing amazing. Anywhere between $15-20M for the weekend seems like the right target.
  8. Lionsgate feels like it's been going through a rough patch for a while. Feels like most of what they put out what now is either cheap-looking genre projects or are leftovers that others passed on like Arthur the King. Granted, genre fare is what they specialized in as they were on the rise, but they had branched out into other kinds of movies (Hunger Games being a major deciding factor in that decision for sure, of course) and had become the official seventh biggest studio (or sixth after the Fox/Disney acquisition) by the early to mid 2010s. They haven't even been in the awards race in the 20s so far after being a fairly major prestige presence during the 10s. Might have become one of the bigger studio casualties of the streaming era as far as landing the buzzy projects was concerned tbh.
  9. Meanwhile, that actress and everyone else involved with this version is already having the last laugh if tickets sold out within two hours of going on sale. So powerful is that Tom Holland (also the chance to a see a notable film/TV actor live in person for a few hours, which tend to be among the more popular types of Broadway plays).
  10. The Romeo + Juliet Holland is starring in (and has been at the center of all this drama) is not a movie, it's a play adaptation on London's West End that runs from next month to early August (with rumors that it might be coming to Broadway afterwards due to tickets selling out fast, almost certainly due to Holland's presence). So I hope the Internet is ready to deal with potentially waiting for Spider-Man 4 a little bit longer if that piece of news ends up true.
  11. Oscars: 2025 Ceremony Date Set, Other Key Dates Announced (hollywoodreporter.com) Sunday, March 2 Starting at 7 again Nominations to be announced on a Friday this year (January 17).
  12. Meanwhile, Angel Studios just had their presentation for those interested (nothing they announced is something I'm interested in seeing).
  13. This has always been an event more to show off what studios have that's upcoming instead of making major announcements, and this year's slate for all studios is lighter than usual due to the strikes. Universal's presentation later on will also be on the quick side cause once Abigail and The Fall Guy are out over these next few weeks, they'll only have 5 (Despicable Me 4, Twisters, Speak No Evil, The Wild Robot, Wicked) releases for the rest of the year.
  14. Begins at 88% with 16 reviews on RT. Also sounds like RDJ is the easy frontrunner for Limited Supporting Actor unless the show switches to Drama (as rumored). It's his world and we just live in it!
  15. Best Actress wasn't super competitive that year and the Academy voting body clearly didn't care that much for House of Gucci as a movie (just a lone Hair & Makeup nomination) but Gaga was probably #6. Last place was probably down to her, Kristen Stewart, and Alana Haim (who was nominated at BAFTA) and Stewart was the one who prevailed.
  16. Pretty sure that's the first time we've heard that Clooney, Cooper, Lively, Rhys, and Schumer are all in this. Krasinski's got a lot of friends!
  17. What's hilarious is that the '96 R+J also portrayed Mercutio as a black drag queen. What about the versions that don't?! Also just considering Baz's exercises in style over substance as the definitive take on...well, anything lol. Austin Butler, you will always be famous!
  18. Joaquin also has probably never received a paycheck that big, so I don't see what the issue is with him getting a much bigger payday for what is, essentially, his franchise. Secure the giant bag of cash while you can, dude!
  19. What this actress has endured is awful of course but I mostly have to laugh at the people attacking her, who 1) claim theatre is "woke" now (now?!), exposing their ignorance and lack of knowledge of the history of live performance 2) have grown up on the Baz/Leo/Claire Danes edition and believe that's the OG/definitive R+J (lmfao) and 3) perhaps the biggest group of all, are all pissy that this play is "holding him back" from making the next Spider-Man movie ASAP and never, ever, ever would've given this production the time of day if Tom Holland wasn't in it.
  20. With The Crow vacating June, this is what the month looks like now: 6/7: Bad Boys 6/14: Inside Out 2, The Watchers 6/21: The Bikeriders, It Ends With Us (a delay feels inevitable), Kind of Kindness (limited?) 6/28: Horizon Part 1, A Quiet Place Day 1 Definitely a light month depending on the sequels hitting and a potential breakout (The Watchers feels the most likely and should honestly move back up a week to its original date for more distance from A Quiet Place).
  21. Depends on if it can survive a summer release until the end of the year but I'm rooting for it! Back-to-Back Oscar Nominee Colman Domingo would be a gift to us all.
  22. Or they know the movie is a stinker and figure it's better to offload it on a dump frame instead of wasting a good spot. That would be my bet.
