ASC snub is annoying. Seems like a director nom is increasingly unlikely. Would have at least liked to see that along with picture/techs (win was always out of the question). Deserves better IMO. -

Ah $13.5m. Preferred the XXR number but still not bad. A2 is going to have to contend against 6 playoff games over the course of Sat-Mon next holiday weekend so that may hamper things.

The thing with Avatar though is unlike Marvel which a large part of the rush (at least through Endgame) was spoiler-driven, the draw for Avatar is to see it on the best screen/seating possible and with less rabid fan base / greater GA appeal it makes sense there is a contingent of people content to wait for the initial rush to dissipate. Was underscored by our IMAX showing tonight being basically sold out.

Eh if the next highest opening for a holiday blockbuster to achieve that multiplier is like only a bit more than half of what this one opened with I'd say it's pretty noteworthy.

Would be surprised if Japan gives much of a fuck about Hollywood's Mario. They are not playing ball, nevermind their historical disinterest in Hollywood adaptations for their shit.

I've said anything over $35m is good but would really love if it can break $40m. Things were getting a little wild with the projected Thursday increase, though. At least you can't say the run has not been entertaining to follow thus far.

With evidence for these weekdays being inflated and Canada over-indexing maybe even 65% increase for A2 today is to be expected.

Is $100m still happening in SK? Narrowly missing there and the UK would be annoying. -
And yes Avatar had once-in-a-generation legs so there should be no expectation the sequel would be able to keep pace with its weekend runs from here on out.
