  1. I love animation, and I think we're going through almost a golden age of animation right now. There is so much variety, and since high-quality animation has become cheaper and cheaper, more and more studios can play around with new ideas in animated movies. Inside Out, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, and Strange Magic were all in my top 10 movies last year, and they couldn't be more different. I loved Minions, The Good Dinosaur, Spongebob, and Shaun the Sheep too. Between all those, there are watercolours, 2D, 3D, stop-motion; franchises, original films, dramas, comedies, adventures and musicals. There's so much going on, more so than any other genre of major studio movies.
  2. I disagree, there is far more originality and creativity in animated movies than live-action atm.
  3. Oh sorry, I didn't realise it was releasing later in the US. I just seen posters that say it's out on 24 June so assumed that was the case in the States. Regardless, my point still stands. People expecting 400M+ are in for a rude awakening.
  4. And yet every other movie this summer so far has been overestimated by the majority of this forum. It will have a similar drop to Monsters University, maybe slightly harder since Nemo was bigger to begin with. Plus with Secret Life of Pets released the week after, there is significant competition.
  5. Angry Birds made 10.5M in China today. Movie is doing fucking well for itself. Might watch it tonight.
  6. all these movies that everyone is talking about that I have never heard of but in my head but would like to think that I do
  7. Mostly due to market saturation, I suppose. Although there's no single juggernaut playing at the moment, there are just so many major would-be blockbusters out there at the moment that they are all doing damage to each other. This is going to continue throughout the summer.
  8. Here in the UK, Tuesday & Wednesday have two for one tickets nationwide for people who buy insurance through an insurance website. The difference at the box office is crazy.
  9. The BFG is gonna do better OS anyway, its home territory is the UK after all.
  10. Oh shit yeah, sorry. Adjusted for inflation: Potter: $3.04B Batman: $3.19B MCU: $4.2B Bond: $5.61B Star Wars: $5.89B
  11. Yeah that new Star Wars movie is gonna bomb hardddd. When the general audience reads about all those reshoots in their local media tabloid newspaper no one is gonna want to go see it.
  12. Oh sorry, I getcha. Didn't even realise that. I thought you were saying the film is not being shown at all OS
  13. Domestic: Potter: $2.39B Star Wars: $3.18B MCU: $3.71B Worldwide: Potter: $7.7B MCU: $10.2B
  14. As in, it has a fan base who will pay more to see it at a premium location.
  15. Take a look back at Christmas past. The ones in bold are at least comparable to what can be expected of Rogue One. There are other 100M movies every single December. Most of the time multiple others. 2015: Star Wars: 900M Daddy's Home: 150M 2009: Avatar: 750M Chipmunks: 220M Sherlock: 209M Its Complicated: 113M 2003: (adjusted) LotR: 528M Cheaper by the Dozen: 192M Somethings Gotta Give: 174M The Last Samurai: 156M Cold Mountain: 126M 2002: (adjusted) LotR: 492M Chicago: 243M Catch Me If You Can: 235M Maid in Manhattan: 136M Two Weeks Notice: 134M Gangs of New York: 112M 2001: (adjusted) LotR: 467M Ocean's 11: 275M A Beautiful Mind: 252M Black Hawk Down: 160M Vanilla Sky: 151M Jimmy Neutron: 121M 1997: (adjusted) Titanic: 1,101M As Good as it Gets: 272M Tomorrow Never Dies: 231M Scream 2: 188M Mouse Hunt: 114M With a big brand & a known star, it should be good to make $$$.
