  1. What if toys were alive? What if monsters were scared of children? What if super-heroes had to live normal lives? What if a robot was the last person on earth? What if a rat wanted to cook? What if cars were people? Even the stories that aren't so simple to explain employ a very simple twists on character, or a something very visually unexpected: an old man flies his house on a thousand balloons. He's having the adventure he dreamed of as a child. A clownfish that isn't funny. He's a fish that's scared of the ocean. How does Brave remotely resemble any of this so far? The princess who doesn't want to be a princess thing isn't new like all of these other twists are. It's been done a million times (but maybe it's a princess that doesn't want to be a princess and ends up deciding to be a princess?) I'm still hoping that the true storyline remains hidden (and I've seen references from a few posters to the fact). They haven't shown what the bear has to do with the story, and in most of the artwork--that's what seems deepest and most powerful. I guess I'm at a point where I still have high hopes, but I'm standing on a wobbly ladder to keep them up here. These trailers so far almost look intentionally bad. =(
  2. It looks nothing like a dreamworks movie. Doesn't look very pixar yet either, but they haven't showed a lot of footage so far.
  3. I don't see the trailer do much to appeal to an adult audience either =/ Contrast this with the early trailers for Tangled, which looked like fun and adventure
  4. Who laughed at the jokes in that scene? Anyone? The first trailer was better (and I didn't even like that). Either the movie's got problems, or the marketing does.
  5. We had a mediocre year in 2011, but there were a few gems. Arthurt Christmas, Rio and Rango--and some really great projects are indevelopment out there. Pixar's Mind Movie and Dinosaur Movie have enormous potential.
  6. I'll pass on the spoiler. Good to hear something + though.
  7. As "unconventional" as Pixar looks on one hand, a lot of their stuff is pretty simple too, usually a twist on something familiar. What if a rat wanted to cook? What if monsters were scared of children? What if super-heroes had to live normal lives. What if a robot fell in love? etc. I don't this trailer did the story they're working on any justice. Time will tell.
  8. So Mr. Cruise and Abrams get the last laugh after all?
  9. Lassetter is the man. He's saved Disney Animation in a matter of a few years (Bolt, PatF, Tangled > Meet the Robinsons, Chicken Little, etc that they were producing). You guys need to take Cars 2 for what it was. A decent (not great) Pixar movie that was geared more strongly towards children than anything they've produced since Toy Story 2. It was also made during a time where Pixar was obviously having some trouble unrelated to Cars 2 (unless Newt getting canceled was Cars 2's fault). Otherwise, a bit more rewriting and another year of production could have suited the movie very well. McMissile was an absolutely spectacular character. Shame he was the number 2 when the movie screamed from the opening sequence he should have been number 1. Regardless, Dinosaur, MU and Mindmovie sound like they have fantastic potential.
  10. They could do what they did with TS3. Ten years real life = ten years in the movie.Dash is a high school senior now, with all that drama. Bob is running around the world being a super-hero in his spare time. Violet is out of college, trying to make it on her own. Helen is trying to hold together the family between its different new legs. Everyone could have very different places to explore along that same idea of a family of heroes that still has to live a regular life in between all the super-hero stuff?
  11. Poor Sony Animation. Arthur was fantastic. They just can't win?
  12. I agree absolutely that Brave's lackluster trailer doesn't reflect the true quality of the movie we'll get, but the trailer pales in comparison to past pixar efforts. Hate all you guys want on their previous trailers, but Rat, Up, Wall-E---they show a memorable character, great ensemble, beautiful world, a perilous adventure and great fun/humor. Where is the "russel" "Eve" or "Linguini" of the movie? Or will Merida have to carry the entire movie on her own pure charisma (which from the tad bit I've seen, I'd say she has)? Looking forward to trailer number 2.
  13. Everyone said that--but the trailers were fantastic. It opened big and had a huge run.
  14. I showed up for TI as a teen w/ my future wife based purely on us remembering the super-hero who couldn't fit into his costume bit. Pixar trailers typically show fantastic and vivid characters (Brave so far shows 1) and a beautiful, fun and perilous adventure.
  15. Pixar's last originals first trailers for reference:
  16. I disagree--Pixar trailers are usually fantastic. This was blah. Brave will probably be good, but it's not going to be UP, TI or FN.
  17. Wall-E playing with an old bra in the middle of a junk yard looked more exciting than this.
  18. I've been reading almost daily since Wall-E came out, but I do almost no posting myself.
  19. PIB won't get as big a Sat bump since Friday was a holiday. Friday got the huge bump instead.
