  1. Best box-office runs I've been blessed to be apart of: - Frozen: the phenomenon that got me into box office back in 2013 (USA and Japan run specifically) - Inside Out/Minions/Jurassic World Summer Trifecta: this was what made the summer of 2015 in terms of tracking box office - The Force Awakens: a monstrous insanity - Your Name: the Japanese run (which is still continuing as it just had another weekend increase... in its 18th weekend...) has been a phenomenon - American Sniper: what the hell happened? - Zootopia: AMAZING box-office run and probably the best of the year along with Rogue One (CHINA... INSANITY)
  2. Watched Spirited Away for what seemed like the 100th time and I enjoyed it better than my 99th viewing. The themes about transitioning into adulthood, how greed affects your life, why identity is so important, and about family, love, companionship, first impressions, and having a "home," are done in such amazing fashions that every single time I see this film, I can relate one of the themes to a different example. Every single detail, every single word spoken, every action, and every reaction are crucial to the film and compose what is essentially a quintessential work of art and a metaphorical examination of society. Much like Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away utilizes literary devices such as metaphors to their highest degree and weaves the devices into the story in emotional and effective manners. Spirited Away relentlessly makes you wonder, makes you awed, makes your heart pound, makes you cry, makes you giddy with joy, and wonderfully encapsulates your heart for a good two hours before bitter sweetly letting you go in such a way that the viewing of the film itself ties into the whole experience. No film is perfect is what I should say, but Spirited Away is pretty damn perfect! Now I see why even Shinkai gets embarrassed when being compared to the likes of Miyazaki. Miyazaki is simply... indescribable in his storytelling. Simply indescribable.
  3. Everything matters at this point: Moana hitting $250 million and Disney hitting $3 billion! Every dime, nickel, and penny matters!
  4. Basically me everyday. *check* *leave* *check* *gets excited* *sees negative posts* *researches* *gets worried* *checks again* *leave* *check* Oh the joy of being a box office fanatic.
  5. Disney could possibly post another trifecta with Star Wars Episode 8, Beauty and the Beast, and Guardians of the Galaxy taking the No.1, No.2, and No.3 spots respectively.
  6. Moana increasing by just 7%... It's going to increase way more than that.
  7. Hopefully it regains some theaters back. Disney has done it before and seeing how well Moana is performing I'm not sure why they're not doing it. Even if theaters have to oblige by the contracts for the newer releases, there's still enough theaters to go towards Moana.
  8. Wouldn't be surprised if Moana comes a little above estimates. Would be even better if it had another increase...
  9. May Debbie Reynolds and her beloved daughter rest in peace watching us from distant a place far, far away where hopelessness, loss, hatred, and bigotry no longer exist. They left their footprints in the sands of time and shall forever be remembered for their contributions to humanity be it small or great. Rest in peace!
  10. Moana's Run - Monday numbers: $250 MILLION DEAD! HAHA! LOOK AT THOSE ABYSMAL WORLDWIDE NUMBERS! $500 MILLION WW AT MOST! - Tuesday numbers: THAT JUMP IS INSANE! $250 MILLION LOCKED! - Wednesday numbers: OMFG! YA'LL THOIT IT WAS ANOTHER FROZEN! HAHA! - Thursday numbers: $230-245 million at most! - Friday numbers: SING DEMOLISHED THIS MOVIE! - Saturday numbers: $250 MILLION LOCKED!!! $250 MILLION IS HAPPENING! - Sunday numbers: THAT HOLD! - Cycle repeats with little variances here and there!
  11. I hope Moana has a shot at 6 million admissions. That would just be amazing and would make up for its lackluster European performance where it did/has done modest business in the U.K, Italy, and Spain. France is the only one that truly broke out.
  12. #Notanevent Joking aside, it will be really interesting to see how Rogue One, Moana, and Sing all perform. Here's to hoping for a trifecta of amazing grosses for all three deserving films in their own rights.
  13. Thanks for the info! Maybe Sing will perform better than Moana but the difference between their overall respective grosses will be minuscule.
  14. Moana and Sing neck and neck! Will be interesting to see how they each perform.
  15. Prayers are with the Fisher family. Seems all too familiar to the Houston family situation back when Whitney died and Bobbie followed quickly thereafter.
  16. Excerpts from a recent Paris interview by Shinkai. Can he get anymore modest? “Of course I’m happy when people mention his name and mine in the same breath. It’s like a dream. But I know they are overpraising ‘Your Name.’ because I am absolutely not at Miyazaki’s level. “Honestly, I really don’t want Miyazaki to see it because he will see all its flaws.” “The audience laughed, then they sobbed … I had drawn a graph when I was making it about how the audience might react, and it was just like that. “Obviously I was happy to see it worked but at the same time I was afraid that it had worked too well. I said to myself, ‘Damn, maybe I overdid it.’ ” He also called "Your Name" incomplete and said that 2 years was not enough. Since anime films tend to do quite well at the box office in France, especially works by Miyazaki, Your Name could be looking at another goldmine in France. Credits: Japan Times
  17. Who would have thought Trolls would make more than KFP3? I still believe in Dreamworks! Hopefully they hit the jackpot soon. I was looking forward to their CGI/2D blended animation in Shadows... but production seems to be at a standstill for that one...
  18. I just finished watching Children Who Chase Lost Voices and I am astonished to say the least. The way Shinkai fluidly and heart wrenchingly weaves in his moral message about life and the plethora of ways in which the film views and explores loss and human suffering resonate in ways that are simply incapable of being described! It reminds me very much of Howl's Moving Castle and many of Miyazaki's works as Shinkai's directing and writing is reminiscent to that of the atmosphere, pacing, and emotional tug of Miyazaki's works. Next on my agenda is 5 Centimeters Per Second.
  19. Would 5.5 or 6 million be too much of a stretch for Moana?
  20. I hope somebody wakes us from this nightmare. 2016 has not been a kind year at all. 2017 looks like living hell too...
  21. Okay, thanks. I was confused since they reported it as Moana's last day.
