MOANA | 394.6 M overseas ● 643.3 M worldwide

Sing isn't doing very hot either OS. I don't think it would have done any differently even without Moana like you said. Both just aren't performing to the golden standards of their respective company. -

I thought Moana was extended for another week in China? -
Your Name... insane! Just simply insane! Another box-office phenomenon in Japan merely 2 years after the release of Frozen, Your Name has defied all odds. I remember when Corpse was hesitant to say $100 million was locked even after two weeks of release and it's gone on to double that! Simply amazing and deserves all the success it is getting.

Official France Box Office Thread

Moana... simply YUGEEE! If only it can replicate this success in other countries! #fingerscrossed -
All the people I've talked to about upcoming movies have talked about how much they want to see Hidden Figures when it goes wide. They didn't know the title of the movie, but said, "Hey, I really want to see that film with the three women who worked for NASA." They said the trailers really resonated with them. Even kids in my school want to see that film.

It's going to hit $300 million OS... There's no way this does under $550 million. It'll do well... it'll do well... you just have to believe! -
Moana is holding MUCH better than Tangled and that fudged legged its way to $200 million. Moana is following Toy Story 2's run decades ago to a T and will most likely come in a little bit higher than Toy Story 2 at around $250 million which would put it in the Top 20 of highest grossing animated films of all time. If you think about it, there have been THREE animated features that hit $300 million this year and countless more that hit $100 million. 2016 has been a monstrous year for animation and Sing and Moana will end it on the perfect note with each possibly coming in above $240 million. It's not always about the smaller picture but rather the bigger one. What other box office year can boast that it saw FIVE animated films cross $200 million: the so called blockbuster threshold? Moana and Sing will end what has been an EXEMPLARY year for animation not only in the U.S but as well as globally on a HIGH NOTE and that in and of itself is an accomplishment.

Does that mean you like or not?

I'm fourteen and I believe they both bring up valid points. Animation shouldn't just be geared towards a certain demographic, but rather have a four quadrant appeal and teach and tackle universal themes, issues, and topics that will resonate with people of all ages. Animation is an amazing medium to convey messages and if it can be utilized to perfection, you will have a film that pleases almost everyone. I guess Sing just didn't do it for them.

They market SOME of their films very well, the ones they know will bring in the big bucks. As for their other films... they either don't know HOW to market the film or fail miserably. As for Moana, it's not the film AT ALL. It's posting GREAT LEGS after a mild to abysmal opening weekend and in countries such as France, it's even rivaling Frozen in admissions. The UK and other countries where it has already opened have all complained about having zero to no marketing at all. Thankfully they stepped up their marketing but the damage has already been done.

I guess, but I am an avid animation fan and am always looking for ways studios push the genre forward and away from the stigma that surrounds animation, "Animation is for kids and for kids only." When you look at other parts of the world, animation is seen on equal footing with live-action and countries like Japan have consistently awarded Best Picture to animation. Here in the West, animation has taken on a very different slogan and films like Sing even though its "good," only reinforces that statement. Even Moana to a degree with its trailers (and it's first act and a little bit of its conclusion) which many said was the reason why they didn't watch it, "Too kiddy."

Illumination's marketing team is genius! They're actually trying to be creative with their marketing and are marketing movies like how you would promote a new album or singer. Disney does the BARE MINIMUM and hope their brand will carry the film to success. I love WDAS and Pixar but hate the Disney company itself.

What a sad day it will be if that happens... and the frightening part is it most likely will happen. Sing isn't a bad movie in the least, but it just doesn't push the genre forward or do anything new. It had some great things it was trying to do, but fell flat on execution. It's a cute movie, nothing wrong with that, but it let me down because I was so hyped for that film. What animated feature can say they've tried to tackle the issues Sing did: Very few. And there's probably a good reason why. If only Sing delivered on all fronts I would be happy for its success. But compared to the likes of Moana... it's like comparing Magikarp to Arceus.

I have it ultimately finishing at $620-640 million, but there's a TINY, A FRACTION of a chance that it might hit $700 million if other European countries perform like France and Japan and SK follow suite with their love for Disney and its animated features. Japan and SK alone will deliver a combined $100+ million. -

Moana opens in a majority of its markets today except for 10. Markets left to open in: Australia (Dec. 26th), Brazil (Jan. 5th), Argentina (Jan. 19th.), South Korea (Jan. 19th), Turkey (Jan. 20th), Hong Kong (Jan. 26th), Denmark (Feb. 2nd), Norway (Feb. 3rd), Sweden (Feb. 3rd), and Japan (Mar. 10th). These markets could provide the needed energy to heave Moana past $700 million. I think it's still possible. Hopefully I'm proven correct. *bites nails*
