  1. They already look stupid for how they managed the DCEU, I don't think the Ayer Cut being well received would change anything about how people perceive WB. What could happen is that it being good could motivate fans to start asking for sequels, which could be an unnecessary problem for James Gunn if he's trying to move on with his own plans (it's what happened after the release of the Snyder Cut). After his DCU is already embraced by the fans and everyone is excited to see what he's planning for the Suicide Squad characters, it wouldn't matter that they release the Ayer Cut and it's well received, that's what I think Gunn is planning to do (unless he's just lying to David Ayer and making him false promises👀).
  2. The studio wouldn’t take my notes. I suggested Denis Villeneuve, Christopher Nolan and the guy from the new Mission Imposible movies, but they went with Ridley Scott for my biopic.
  3. You're right, but the post I responded to was claiming the MCU is now in the same situation DC was during the Snyder-era, but that's not at all the case. What many don't remember is that the DCEU was subjected to a major reboot after Aquaman. WB made things confusing because they continued the Wonder Woman and Aquaman franchises, and brought back some Suicide Squad characters, so it gets a little blurry. But when Walter Hamada took over DC and starting with Shazam in 2019, they shifted the strategy to standalone stories, the movies had no references to one another, there was no build up to larger storylines and crossovers, and the focus was on lesser known characters. The Snyderverse's two main heroes, Henry Cavill's Superman and Ben Affleck's Batman, were completely left aside, and those movies' storylines entirely ignored and even retconned. They did try to change that late last year when WB realized fans had rejected the "new" DCEU, and started calling Cavill, Affleck, Momoa and Gadot to cameo in other movies in a desperate attempt to bring audiences back with a false sense of connection and shared universe again. Before the reboot starting in 2019, the DCEU was actually somewhat steady at the box office, with an average around $800m worldwide, with the big flop (Justice League) dropping to $656m, and the biggest hit at over $1 billion. The MCU has collapsed under the same leadership and doing what they always did, while we can easily point out what major changes made audiences lose interest in the DCEU.
  4. The DCEU didn't reach The Marvels-low during that era. Important to remember, these were the worldwide numbers for the DCEU at the time: Man Of Steel (2013) - $668 million Batman v Superman (2016) - $874 m Suicide Squad (2016) - $746 m Wonder Woman (2017) - $822 m Justice League (2017) - $656 m Aquaman (2018) - $1.14 billion Average of over $800m per film with only JL not being profitable, all thanks to the stupid decision to reshoot it with Joss Whedon, which inflated the budget to $300m and ruined a movie that when later released was well received by critics and audiences.
  5. It still has a chance if the movie is really good, which, sadly, doesn't seem to be the case based on what ViewerAnon heard from test screenings.
  6. Any chance this legs out to $400m worldwide or close, considering the lack of competition until Wonka mid-December?
  7. The Disney collapse is shocking and they continue to surprise us with every new release. It's like every new Disney film this year bombs harder than the one before. They completely overshadowed the collapse of the DCEU. Not even in its worst year, where it put out one bomb after another, DC can have the spotlight. Happy for Rachel Zegler and the adult epic genre with Napoleon.
  8. We’re seeing these movies having lower opening weekends and breaking 2nd weekend drop records, it’s clear there’s a problem with the genre as a whole. The performance of The Marvels is just more evidence of that, because when it happened with Morbius or The Flash we were acting like it was just WB and Sony being messy as always, but no one ever expected an MCU movie to do even worse. I used to say James Gunn should have the opportunity to prove his ability to build a cinematic universe, but at this point I totally understand if WB gets nervous and demands some changes to his plans. Movies for The Authority and Supergirl, and several related TV shows, not to mention the director of The Flash at the helm of yet another new version of Batman, this is sounding like a very risky idea now.
  9. The fact that BVS is not even in the top 10 biggest second weekend drops for comic book movies anymore 😭
  10. Cavill's Superman had an increase of 30% in his second film's worldwide box office, and reports about his cameo increased Black Adam's presales, which were dismal before, and that movie ended up performing better than anything the DCEU released since Aquaman (and miles better than The Marvels). Their box office trajectory couldn't be further apart.
  11. The Snyderverse movies were profitable and broke records for DC, they were objectively not a failure. And seeing the numbers for the Walter Hamada-era at DC, and now the collapse of the MCU, should also be enough for you all to reconsider how BVS was actually received by audiences. It just doesn't make sense anymore to think that the movie was completed rejected to the point of poisoning the DC brand - if that was the case, we would see the effects of that immediately at the box office. The Captain Marvel movies are dropping from 1.1 billion to ~200 million worldwide just 1 year and a half after Multiverse of Madness and Thor Love and Thunder, which people point as the start of the downfall of the MCU. In the months following the reception to BVS, DC released Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman to record breaking numbers. The DCEU franchise only really collapsed after years of WB doing everything to distance it from Snyder.
  12. It still sold more tickets than any movie James Gunn ever directed, which makes Snyder a more successful filmmaker.
  13. Batman v Superman made more at the box office than any Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
  14. So, looking at these numbers for The Marvels, do we still think this year's DCEU movies bombed because they announced James Gunn is going to reboot it, or is there a bigger problem with the entire comic book movie genre? What do you think this means for Superman Legacy and the future DCU movies, especially the projects focused on lesser known characters?
  15. Just because audiences embraced Barbie doesn't mean they aren't sexist. That's like someone saying they can't trust a woman to be president, but since they love their stay at home wife doing the dishes they can't be sexist, because they love and respect women in certain roles in society. I'm not saying the problem with The Marvels is that it stars women, the issue is certainly much more complex than that, but Brie Larson has been facing a sexist smear campaign for years, and The Marvels reaching the lowest numbers ever for the MCU despite the fact that it's not the first mediocre movie they've done and neither their worst reviewed one, sure enough justifies a discussion about whether or not sexism is playing a factor in this box office performance.
  16. The trailer starts interesting until we get to the new main characters, who are these people? Considering Afterlife only did $200m worldwide, not a lot of people were introduced to them, and that's going to be a challenge.
