  1. Gucci being right behind Encanto is pretty damn good. It's Encanto that disappointed. But it's also Tuesday instead of Thursday.
  2. I'd call it her best performance, but I don't think she deserves the Oscar. An Oscar-winning perf oughta be flawless, and hers does contain one minor flaw: her accent is occasionally far too "breathy."
  3. Gucci probably would've opened to 40 mil pre-pandemic.
  4. I hate to admit this, but after watching Afterlife and reading some of these reviews compared to the previous movie...maybe the trolls were right in 2016 about critics having an agenda.
  5. Question, does it have terrible CGI/green screen like most Marvel movies? I expect Zhao did much better in this department.
  6. If this wins Best Picture it'll be the first winner I haven't seen since English Patient.
  7. I'm pretty sure that's purely an online thing, and it's unfair to boot. He deserved his Oscar and he's been pretty good in Blade Runner and The Little Things.
  8. If you pay attention to critics or Film Twitter you'll know that it's been reevaluated the most of any film in the last 15 years. There are long-form articles about it.
  9. Ehh...Shang Chi overperformed. An opening lower makes sense given that Eternals is arguably even more of an obscure property. We can't treat every Marvel movie like it's capable of opening over 100 mil just because of the Marvel brand.
  10. Kinda weird how basically every R-rated movie for adults is making exactly around 3-7 million OW.
  11. I don't know what "messy" means. It's a lazy criticism, much like "too long." That being said, I'm not defending the movie. I'm curious. Also, Spectre rocks, and the Craig films don't have a house style. Sam Mendes' films look quite different from Casino Royale or Quantum. And Dune rocks even harder. Do not compare them to the MCU which is mostly lacking in personality.
  12. This feels similar to Black Panther 2 where there's apparently a new villain but no major casting news for said villain.
  13. I guess without having seen it it's difficult to know why critics are piling on this one above all of the other formulaic Marvel flicks. But it seems as if they tolerate the formula as long as the films are mostly snappy comedies. Because this is more serious they have less patience for it I guess? I'm interested to find out why one of the few to have any style or personality is somehow worse than the others that stick to their bland house style of filmmaking.
  14. Either you naysayers didn't see this in IMAX or you literally do not know what you're looking at when you watch movies. We can argue about everything but the visuals. The visuals are excellent and that's just a fact.
  15. I considered the sandworm stuff and Paul's dagger fight to be the climax. But it get it, people have been conditioned to think a climax must be huge.
  16. It's funny, pre-COVID everyone was talking about how older auds were keeping theaters alive. Now it's the opposite.
