The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Will there be any PVOD for AQP2? If not, canada may provide some small bump in the later run. -
A Quiet Place 2 | Paramount | May 28, 2021
titanic2187 replied to Eric Loves Rey's topic in Box Office Discussion
The average rating is now 6.9/10 from 26 reviews. This generally means some 80% + RT score eventually. -
People tend to call pro-cinemalist as old-fashioned, but they fail to recognize the fact they it is the country where population skewed younger that cinema was booming. And USA/ Euro where population skewed older, are abandoning cinema like they are some kind of nerd or incel cult that fail to carry out the most basic human's instinct, i.e. socializing.

I can recall zero series that replicate the buzz level that I had experience with HP, LOTR, Marvel, DC or even Twilight or HG. Not even Game of Throne have that level. It is a very strange scenario, people (at least in Asia), they will watch movies in English but hardly they will talk about any English series. Once you walked out from english-speaking community, the buzz even for the most popular series in western nation are almost non-existent. Once people turn into streaming, they will stream any korean/hong kong soap-opera, chinese palace drama series, japanese anime or bollywood flick. Welcome any Asian to challenge this view. Does any of series from the west have the hype-level similar to their movie counterparties?

So overall business will be totaling to around 26m-27m. Still too low in relative to its market potential and the we still have problem making a 10m opener consistently. Next week could fall below 20m again (the first since Apr16-18) due to the lack of new wide opening.

Deadline only call 41% drop for Friday, Overall weekend 36% drop. FUNanimation should have some fan merchandise tie-in event like those in Malaysia, South Korea, or Japan. Should help its run significantly.

DS is performing much like a standard film , rather than a niche fan-driven event. This suggest that there is some support from general public

If cinema has died, Russia and China win another battleground in this Cold War 2.0 wthout much attack. As simple as that, cinema has been a vital place for Amercian to export and exert their soft power overseas.

What a dreadful week, even the holdovers except Raya are doing meh

BW is still hopeful. It is after all, a marvel movie, with one of the most popular character in the entire line up in the center of the film. As for AQP2., yes....it feel like Paramount is pretty much giving up its buzz building beside from random reminder trailer. The last marketing tool they have the reviews release. If that is very positive, that might reverse the trend. Paramount spent 60% of their marketing budget before the postponement, let's hope they use that last 40% wisely.
-
Maybe they need some headline number like the number of cases and death fall to record low to make them feel safe about the communal activities. Also, studio's marketing has been very low profile , that probably kill a lot of buzz itself.

AJ firefighter movie is coming out this weekend? I saw some tracking in the buzz thread but they were too low and it tricks me into thinking that the film is for next week.
-
But what else is releasing this weekend aside from some limited release?

Is this the first true disappointment during this pandemic era? Poor Lionsgate. Never had their true moment even if they tried to create one, taking the advantage when all major studio choose to runaway.

The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
titanic2187 replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
All tracking for AQP2 before the world went down suggest 50m-70m in the range. If i can recall properly, even the PS confirm the range. Also, 30m-35m isn't bad but simply not good enough because by now, we should have already started to gauge how close we can recover to pre-pandemic level. Not only theater attendance, but also GDP, unemployment rate, all sort of metrics. -

Why simply refuse to demand more when clearly there should be an appetite and capacity to do more? -

It will be very saddening if AQP2 failed to beat GvK's opening. It is a full theatrical release with higher capacity allowance and theater count , combined with the fact that AQP1 made more money than KOTM and 2 months worth of progress in term of vaccination and reduction in outbreak. If all those improvement don't warrant a at least 40m 3 days opening (Ideally 50m), I don't know what else need to be done. -

Is it possible the covid situation got people to postpone their ticket booking due to concern of the theater may be closed or movie could be postponed? At least that is the case in my country where online booking during pandemic era have been backloaded,
