  1. First we have Deadline mid-day update, now we have god returns. No wonder cinema allows to drop mask now
  2. 22m true friday seem too good to be true from the tracking thread but still great to see Deadline have their first mid-day update.
  3. This can only help a little but as long as HBO max is around, there is little aid to Dune. The last hope is Venice buzz
  4. I don't think I can submit a list. My western library just isn't big enough. And I still don't really get the definition or scope of western genre, like how Dances with wolves or the revenant a western?
  5. 7.1m is a big number for current market but a meh number for the franchise. They should stop at F10 to avoid the first flop in the series
  6. F8 had 4329 theaters. This isn't far below than that
  7. Last week the holdover made 45m. Since last week father day gain wasn't really that impressive, this should not translate to a big drop this week, aided by the lifting of social distancing seating, the actual lose of screen should be moderate. So we can expect a 30m from holdovers, if F9 somehow managed to hit 70m, along with other small releases, this could be the first week since Mar 06 to hit 100m.
  8. Overall box office made 47m. Without giant-hit, this father weekend, is 77% lower than in 2019 and 82% in 2018. Even in 2013, the worst father day weekend made 130m overall. This suggest that the current cinema is operating at less than a quarter of their maximum potential. Not sure how can this be a viable or profitable industry if things keep going on at this dreadful pace.
  9. Actually this has been the trend before pandemic start, but pandemic make them even more visible. Big blockbuster franchise reap all the benefit from the growth in box office market in the past 10 years. While big movies making more and more money, small medium film struggle and enjoy almost nothing. People seem to have problem understanding this, growth in box office didn't benefit all segment. But this is our world now, everything has since become more polarised, in politics, economics, values to even box office.

  12. Seem like being a meme stock have indulged AMC to practice seat blocking, instead of maximizing footfall. I saw some AMC theaters are blocking every alternate rows on top of the blocked seat in left and right, basically put overall capacity below 50% effectively. Aren't they overdoing it?? With more than 50% of the American vaccinated, it is more likely you will be seating next to a vaccinated person than not.
  13. I thought BC area reopened on 15th June? I can't feel their impact in the overall box office yet to holdovers like AQP2 or Cruella
  14. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/house-passes-bill-make-juneteenth-federal-holiday-n1271083 May I know when will this come into effect?? From the way I see, this coming weekend may unexpectedly become a holiday weekend on top of the father day. Wait....19th June is saturday....so shouldn't matter much after all

  16. This sound contradictory with their business strategy now. If they agree the correlation between theater gross and home media sales, shouldn't they try to maximize box office gross before handing out to streaming?
  17. Well, in the unwanted welcoming news, at least AQP2 claim number 1 position , in time for its status as first 100m grosser in the pandemic era. Only that saturday bump of 22% is a bit too soft.
  18. Green Book coming off fresh as Oscar winner that local distributor heavily promote using it.
  19. I think ultimately the question is how can you create an event when your product is so easily accessible to people without time and cost constraint? Put it in a sexist way, which boy will appreciate an easy girl? There is hardly any premium experience or emotional investment out of this. Watching a musical from small-mid screen is hardly any exclusive than watching a music video from You tube. Can watching you tube clip a worthy event?
  20. One seat is still a reasonable ask. NYC's 6 foot distancing is a bit too much. I still don't understand how come AMC choose ditching mask mandate over doing away the social distancing. The former cost almost nothing to execute but latter bring in more potential footfall.
  21. Ontario's regulation is freaking risk-adverse or a.k a. cowardice, for a 14m population state to close off the entire cinema chain because of 500-600 people getting sick daily and 15 death, is it really worth it? And it is not like there are no other alternative to counter the risk, just mandate the mask wearing and 1m social distancing and that would make win-win for everybody.
