  1. No matter how much money it is and no matter my reservations I do have a lot of respect for Villeneuve for taking all of it and saying "I'm gonna do just what I want with this".
  2. Androids, yeah. But then androids = humanoid robots, no? So it's not exactly wrong.
  3. It's not "backlash" if the movie doesn't have someone jizzing all over the screen that's what
  4. Things from the first hour do pay off later on, and the movie is just so damn confident and beautiful that there's a possibility of a Revenant effect where the audiences just accept the rules of the game (a slim one nevertheless since this is a sci-fi sequel with a decent amount of action in the marketing). Still 3x would be great for this tbh.
  5. Also I'll be pleasantly surprised if it really catches on with the GA. It is, shall we say, really not in a hurry to get anywhere or do things that are expected from it, even though it is a mesmerizing spectacle even when little or nothing "happens". Certainly it's not your typical crowd-pleaser.
  6. Similarly to the original it's visually superlative but emotionally didn't quite get to me. Don't think it needed to be quite this long - like Ignatiy Vishnevetsky said on Twitter, it already feels like a lurching, unwieldy director's cut of a shorter movie - but I do love that a lot of scenes get to breathe in a way that's pretty much alien to 99% of blockbusters, and even minor actors get the space to give memorable performances. Ana de Armas' character is the best which I didn't expect at all. It's a big, weird movie that's fiercely its own thing, mostly for good, sometimes for bad. I'll have to think about it to decide just how well it really comes together, but it's a must-see anyway. Also we need to capture Shay and make him watch this thing Ludovico technique-style.
  7. Nothing says quality like a distributor named Quality Flix.
  8. Deakins' interview on the movie, educational as always http://filmmakermagazine.com/103272-the-color-of-the-future/#.WdU4GVu0PIU
  9. I don't know who's dumber, Netflix for dumping its movies with no promotion and not following Amazon's strategy, or the Academy for getting so stuck in the past. ("In the opinion of one prominent Oscar member, Netflix could represent “a cheapening of the Oscar.” - oh get the fuck outta here.) Two wrong sides both putting their foot down, oof.
  10. I forgot that October 20 was only a UK release date. Would be dumb of them to postpone it to next year in the States in light of that, anyway.
  11. I can see The Death of Stalin in adapted. Its acclaim so far is almost if not on par with In the Loop, and that got nominated. Also think Mudbound might overcome the Netflix thing due to just how weak the field is. James Ivory should be getting that acceptance speech ready, anyway.
  12. He's restless and wants to work all the time without getting too stuck with a single project.
  13. As with Cafe Society I'll watch this for the cinematography alone. Storaro really went full Storaro in this by the looks for it. The premise doesn't really pique my interest, at least partly because the trailer is so rushed. I mean why exactly is it 90 seconds long and not 2 and a half minutes?
  14. Wonderstruck wouldn't be too random, we're talking about Ed Lachman here and a technically showy project. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in Score and Production Design too.
  15. I like how Hidden Figures didn't get its actuals reported for one week and turns out it somehow collected 4k during that time. Sep 15–17 136 $125 -83.4% 1 -1 $125 $169,380,936 39 Sep 29–Oct 1 115 $230 - 1 - $230 $169,385,416 41
  16. Homecoming is already coming out on blu-ray in 10 days so it'll probably be all drops from here. I'd be surprised if it reached 335.

  18. Looks like Wonder Woman is gonna fall a few hundred thousand short of 4x in the end which is kinda hilarious after all this time.
  19. Greatest discrepancy between the movie I imagined/hoped for looking at the thread title and the actual movie ever.
