  1. Blade Runner 2049 Darkest Hour Dunkirk The Last Jedi Wonderstruck Alt.: untitled PTA
  2. Cartwright's character is clearly the most easily freaked out of the crew from the start. Unlike Ripley, it's 100% in character for her to get paralyzed with fear at the sight of the alien.
  3. So this is what Linklater's doing now after all. Well, I can only hope it doesn't screw up his current run for best director of the 2010s
  4. I mean it is from the directors of the definitive quirky Sundance dramedy. Although to me it still comes across much more like light, inoffensive inspirational-true-story nominations-baiting dramedy. Not a lot of Sundancey quirk in that trailer.
  5. I'm more of an Aliens person. No doubt in my mind. Still the best thing is that we get to have both.
  6. The most effective moment in the entire movie for me when I rewatched it the other day was Veronica Cartwright shrieking "You BITCH!" at Weaver and just straight-up attacking her. I remembered all the scares but not that, and it's such an authentically ugly, recognizable human moment that you basically never see in big movies anymore.
  7. I wasn't as big on The Lobster as some were but Lanthimos is a truly singular filmmaker so I'm interested in anything he does. Plus Dogtooth is fucking great. Also really love Kidman's activity recently. She's got three or four movies all premiering in Cannes. Bless that woman.
  8. I enjoyed the hell out of Evil Dead II but the first one is at least its equal. It legitimately freaked me out and its raw and unpolished look and feel only contribute to the effect.
  9. Trailer looks like entirely standard awards fare. Still not seeing any reasons to expect more at this point. Was the real guy this much of a caricature or is that just Carell overdoing it? I wonder how high the odds are of the movie showing all of this.
  10. I thought so. It's a prime example of a grower to me. Was in my bottom half of QT's filmography the first time I saw it too, now it's #2. His warmest and most rewatchable movie.
  11. I don't see A Ghost Story going above 10m. Big Sick might do 25-35 I guess. Don't think anything will be a 40m+ breakout.
