  1. With SOTM 3 it's actually June 18. After Monday IM3 is still $15k shy of $400m.
  2. 51 53 Life of Pi Fox $12,568 +11.7% 25 - $503 $124,953,846 $120 30 Fox just won't stop until LOP is over $125m
  3. 56,000 + 32,000 (SOTM6) = 88,000 for me this week.
  4. Since the CinemaScore is A-, it seems clear to me that the answer to Q11 should be NO.
  5. Pixar should try the Memorial Day weekend or go for July 8/July 15. HTTYD3 has had that June 17 date for months now.
  6. I really love how MOS' actual number is like 18k above GL's total.
  7. As a film critic for the past two years, yes. I know plenty of other critics who do as well. This stereotype of a film critic who never enjoys what he watches and only seeks to find flaws in it seriously needs to be put to death.
  8. Checked my answers and I think I'll end up with between 45k and 55k points this week. Ironically it seemed like I got more TITE questions wrong than MOS questions.
  9. Yeah it has to be a typo or something. No matter what, you don't just drop 86% from your previous Friday like that.
  10. I thought 3:10 to Yuma was great when I was 14 years old and hadn't seen The Proposition and The Assassination of Jesse James yet. Now, don't get me wrong, I still think it has a lot going for it - top-notch production values, a handful of awesome performances, a surprisingly lovely score by Beltrami, a terrific ending - but Lerman's character has only become more annoying with time and overall it's definitely more conventional and less rich and eye-catching than some other modern westerns released in the past decade. It's very watchable and enjoyable in a wouldn't-change-the-channel-if-it-came-on sort of way, but I definitely wouldn't call it a great film today.

  12. Counting all 2013 US releases even if they had premiered somewhere else before that. If a film first premiered in 2012 and didn't have an American release, it counts if it was released in Russia in 2013. 5/5 Paradies: Liebe (Paradise: Love) The Pervert's Guide to Ideology The Place Beyond the Pines Spring Breakers 4/5 Io e te (Me and You) Side Effects 3/5 Après mai (Something in the Air) Blancanieves (Snow White) Evil Dead Fast & Furious 6 Iron Man 3 John Dies at the End No Post Tenebras Lux Star Trek Into Darkness To the Wonder 2/5 Maniac Pain & Gain Trance Yi dai zong shi (The Grandmaster)

  14. V for Vendetta, way back in 2006, made an unforgettable impression on 12-year-old me. I definitely see more faults in it now, but at that time, it was awe-inspiring, just the imagery, the storytelling, the acting, the editing, that goddamn Parliament explosion set to Tchaikovsky - I felt high walking out of the theater and going home. Like holy-hell-wow-that-was-incredible. It was a unique experience in some ways, because I didn't know a lot about the movie and basically went to see it just 'cause I had nothing to do that afternoon. I don't think I knew the Wachowskis were associated with it, either. I expected to like A Streetcar Named Desire when I sat down to watch it, but I didn't quite expect two of the greatest performances in all of cinema, as well as a final third that was so emotionally intense it pretty much knocked me off the couch. One of those movies that, when you see it, it's such a powerful experience that you don't feel like watching anything else in the next few days. Once Upon a Time in the West. I knew that it had quite a reputation, and I was definitely enjoying myself, even as I was finding it slightly too off-beat and slow-paced for my taste. Then came the big reveal - the reason for Harmonica's pursuit of Frank - and I still remember how that single shot knocked the wind right out of me. Suddenly, I was just staring at the screen in awe, and in that moment everything about the movie came together for me. Lately, I guess The Place Beyond the Pines did it for me; once again, I expected it to be good, but not that good. There's certainly a lot of movies like that, I just don't remember them all off the top of my head. This'll do for a start, anyway.
  15. I love TSN score to death, although I'll admit it had to grow on me originally. But it works perfectly both in the movie and on its own, IMO, bursting with energy as Zuckerberg finds his success, only to start drowning in sorrow and despair as he loses his human connections one by one. I will never, ever understand anyone who dismisses it, as well as the TGWTDT score, as "just noise". There's more mood and subtle emotion in there than in most movie scores I heard. And it's definitely become my go-to album for when I need to get some shit done quick. (Likewise, TGWTDT is my go-to album for when it's freezing cold and snowy outside and I'm kinda just sitting here, thinking about things or doing something slowly and meticulously. For all of this past winter, I listened to it several times each week).
  16. I might end up earning 24k this week, provided Trek's Saturday increase stays over 51.6%, THAT INDIAN MOVIE and BEFORE MIDNIGHT keep their #12 and #15 spots, and The Internship's Sunday hold actually turns out to be better than The Purge's. Here's hoping all of that happens, and that I'm not going to flop on the MOS questions. Gotta climb up to the top
  17. 80% is pretty extreme, but I do expect expect a 65-70% drop. John Carter had better WOM and dropped 63% against THG. I'm not expecting better from AE, unless Sony decides to start fudging it already with This Is the End's money.
  18. Exhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice1m #3 is the magic number. NOW YOU SEE ME eased off just -33%, conjuring up another $19.5M, $61.3M total.
  19. Exhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice1m Joss Whedon's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING scored a mighty $185k in 5 theaters--$37k per--best PTA of all films in release.
  20. Exhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice1m Fox's THE INTERNSHIP settled for fourth place, debuting with a soft $18.1M.
  21. [*] Exhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice1m IRON MAN 3 update: Domestic - $394.3M, Int'l - $802.3M, WW - $1.196B Expand [*] Exhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice2m WB's HANGOVER III bribed its way into the $100+M club this weekend--the 9th film of 2013 to do so.
  22. That's a beautiful PTA hold for Before Midnight. Less than 15%. Hopefully it does a few million next weekend.
  23. Did a quick search. The worst Sunday drop I could find for a fairly sizable June opener was The Taking of Pelham 123's 38%. That was also an R-rated thriller, although obviously not a horror. Several big films like X-Men FC and Snow White, as well as horrors like The Happening, The Strangers and Hostel 2, all dropped between 28-32%. Last year Prometheus dropped just 15%.
