  1. I just don't think anything he said can be equated to him saying that Armstrong wasn't a hero. He's just saying that Armstrong didn't consider himself as a hero, which seems pretty consistent with what I've heard of the guy. As for the question, from what I can tell it wasn't directly about the flag itself. The original Telegraph article says he was asked "if the film was a deliberately un-American take on the moon landing," which explains why he didn't just talk about the flag. I dunno, his answer seemed perfectly fine and coherent to me.
  2. Buzz Aldrin isn't Neil Armstrong. I read this as more of an observation on how humble Armstrong was, but whatever. YMMV I suppose. I don't put much stock in the Yeager comment since the tweet it's replying to is phrased in such a misconstrued way. I guarantee that this guy hasn't even seen the movie yet there he is spouting stuff like that which, by all accounts of the actual movie, isn't even true.
  3. I cannot understand how one could see this dumbass controversy unfold and then think that Gosling is the one to be annoyed at.
  4. Watched the Ang Lee Hulk for the first time in ages and shit, it's pretty good. I remember being bored to death last time I watched it but it's genuinely a really interesting and rewarding movie. Good stuff. Jennifer Connelly has really nice eyes.
  5. Imagine rooting for someone who is not Richard E. Grant.
  6. I just have trouble seeing a Singer film gaining much traction in this day and age.
  7. Planting the flag was a bit of a fumble and generally an awkward procedure. It's a fair enough cut if they want to focus on other aspects of the landing (which it sounds like they do, as @antovolk described, and he's actually seen the goddamn movie). Just watch the footage: Unless you want then to actually rewrite history by making him plant the flag all lickety split or whatever, it seems totally logical to trim down that part of the moon landing. Not showing that one aspect isn't rewriting history, and I think at this stage that it's pretty clear that they do show the flag in the film considering how many people who have, y'know, seen it have said as much. Anyway, Armstrong's speech is far and away the most iconic part of the landing. Not them putting a flag down. One small step for man and all that. Kinda rich of you to be getting all "fuck this movie" over a totally reasonable creative decision made by the filmmakers and then complaining about how oversensitive people are.
  8. Legitimately impressed by how incredibly stupid this whole flag kerfuffle is. Great response from Armstrong's son, though.

  13. Rewatched 12 Angry Men and who woulda thunk, it's still the best.
  14. Gotta wonder how high it can actually go with a number like that. The closest comp is probably The Help but this hold is miles better than that and this has the bonus of Labor Day in it's third weekend rather than it's fourth. Would be extra fun if it could try take the title from Big Fat Greek Wedding, but that might be a bit out of reach.
