  1. THE ARTIST 2:30pm The Michigan Theater ~200 People The Crowd: As expected, mostly old people, but there were some relatively younger audiences. Considering how this is the only theater in the area showing this movie, and the inflated monday at the movies, this massive crowd wasn't that surprising. The Experience: It was amazing to watch a movie like this in such a coveted historic auditorium. I couldn't think of another movie that came out this year more fitting for this setting, in fact. The projector started showing ads over the movie in the opening scene, but it went away before too soon. It was still annoying though. Other than that, it was a very solid experience. The Movie: OH MY GOD. I ADORED IT. This could be the best movie of the year for me.
  2. It'll make sense if you watch the trailer. The invisible alien things make light bulbs light up.
  3. At the moment.... Best Original Screenplay 50/50 The Artist Midnight In Paris Margin Call Young Adult Best Adapted Screenplay The Descendants Moneyball Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy The Help War Horse
  4. By the beginning of the year, nobody would stop laughing at you if you said that Gnomeo & Juliet would outgross Tintin................
  5. If it performs like King Kong, MI4 will be at about 130m. KK made ~50m after New Year's Day, so Ghost Protocol is set for at least 180m, and probably more.
  6. Eh, I try to avoid bad movies, which prevents a lot of 'F's from getting into my gradebook, and I've only seen 35 films this year, so "worst movie of the year" isn't too much weight from me.I'd still give it a D, though.

  9. Yeah, everyone on here kept trashing The Muppets and Kung Fu Panda 2...
  10. I'm still holding out for The Artist and The Descendants, but I'm not interested in ELIAC or War Horse very much.
  11. Funny enough, this doesn't even work always. When I went to see Hugo last weekend, this group of about 3 people behind me would not shut up at all for the entire movie. :angry:And yes, I want an Alamo Drafthouse in my area.
  12. I probably won't be able to see it over break with my family though. Our current goals are The Artist, Descendants, and MI4.
  13. I want to see a hat in your mouth by the end of Oscar season.
  14. Alvin is strictly for little kids, while Tintin, while suitable for children, appeals much beyond them.
  15. a. Kids movies always have inflated weekdays over the holidays.b. None of the films that opened were direct competition for Alvin.
  16. Heh, I enjoyed it. The four leads work well, and it's pretty funny at times.***/****
  17. Meh, Rango will probably be the one to take away Pixar's crown.
  18. And that's why I often go to 11am matinees. There's always, like, no more than 20 other people there.
