  1. It appears COCO did increase in the late evening, but only about 1k or so. However, as I feared, 1987 increased 2.5k. So COCO will stay at #2 today. However I'm confident it should take #1 tomorrow.
  2. Estimates for today are 113.6k, up ~8% from yesterday. Still above inside out, but less than it's 13% increase. Could take #1 with actuals as 1987 had 113.9k admissions! Although unlikely as I imagine Coco is pretty dead in the late evening shows.
  3. From Corpse: Estimates pretty much accurate. Weekend Actuals (01/13-14)01 (01) ¥206,595,200 ($1.9 million), -40%, ¥6,538,391,400 ($57.8 million), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Disney) WK5 02 (02) ¥193,122,300 ($1.7 million), -42%, ¥999,568,800 ($9.0 million), Kingsman: The Golden Circle (Fox) WK2 03 (04) ¥117,872,700 ($1.1 million), -21%, ¥2,220,544,300 ($19.8 million), The 8-Year Engagement (Shochiku) WK5 04 (03) ¥113,302,500 ($1.0 million), -32%, ¥2,695,815,600 ($24.0 million), Destiny: The Tale of Kakamura (Toho) WK605 (---) ¥87,121,700 ($784,000), 0, ¥87,121,700 ($784,000), Mazinger Z - Infinity: The Movie (Toei) NEW 06 (05) ¥67,513,600 ($607,000), -45%, ¥1,863,413,300 ($16.5 million), Yo-Kai Watch: Resurrection of the Demon King (Toho) WK5 07 (06) ¥41,551,500 ($374,000), -40%, ¥150,388,600 ($1.4 million), Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! -Take on Me (Shochiku) WK208 (---) ¥39,503,200 ($355,000), 0, ¥50,503,500 ($454,000), Renegades (Asmik Ace) NEW 09 (07) ¥37,414,700 ($336,000), -36%, ¥1,520,081,400 ($13.7 million), Murder on the Orient Express (Fox) WK6 10 (09) ¥34,683,500 ($312,000), -19%, ¥573,475,400 ($5.1 million), That Is Not a Child But a Minor (Toho) WK4
  4. Given Inside Out is the most reasonable comp, here is a chart I made comparing dailies for both. Turns out I was mistaken before - Inside Out dropped 73.4% on its first monday, COCO just 66.2%!
  5. Actuals from today... COCO dropped 66.3% from Sunday - that's about on par with Inside Out's 65%, I'd say WOM seems on a similarly good level! Monday's actuals: Sunday for reference: Another thing to note is that COCO's percentage of 1987's total for Friday to Monday has been 61.5%, 70.5%, 75.8% and then 81.6%. At this steady race, COCO should overtake 1987 as number 1 on Wednesday or Thursday, as COCO should increase in dailies, but 1987 should decrease normally.
  6. Coco overtakes Monsters university to become 11th biggest Pixar release. Inside out dropped 65%, so 69.5% is pretty good. Within 20k admissions of first place, may overtake later this week. Will be able to tell wom tomorrow. Inside out increased Tuesday and Wednesday, so if Coco increases or stays flat then things are looking good! I don't know actual wom from people as I'm not Korean though :/
  7. Weekend Estimates courtesy of Corpse: Weekend Estimates (01/13-14)01 (01) ¥213,000,000 ($1.9 million), -38%, ¥6,550,000,000 ($57.9 million), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Disney) WK5 02 (02) ¥198,000,000 ($1.8 million), -40%, ¥975,000,000 ($8.8 million), Kingsman: The Golden Circle (Fox) WK2 03 (04) ¥121,000,000 ($1.1 million), -19%, ¥2,225,000,000 ($19.8 million), The 8-Year Engagement (Shochiku) WK5 04 (03) ¥115,000,000 ($1.0 million), -31%, ¥2,685,000,000 ($23.9 million), Destiny: The Tale of Kakamura (Toho) WK6 05 (05) ¥67,000,000 ($600,000), -45%, ¥1,850,000,000 ($16.4 million), Yo-Kai Watch: Resurrection of the Demon King (Toho) WK506 (---) ¥60,000,000 ($540,000), 0, ¥60,000,000 ($540,000), Mazinger Z - Infinity: The Movie (Toei) NEW 07 (06) ¥41,000,000 ($370,000), -41%, ¥150,000,000 ($1.3 million), Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! -Take on Me (Shochiku) WK208 (---) ¥40,000,000 ($360,000), 0, ¥40,000,000 ($360,000), Renegades (Asmik Ace) NEW 09 (07) ¥39,000,000 ($350,000), -35%, ¥1,525,000,000 ($13.7 million), Murder on the Orient Express (Fox) WK6 10 (09) ¥36,000,000 ($325,000), -18%, ¥575,000,000 ($5.1 million), That Is Not a Child But a Minor (Toho) WK4>Star Wars: The Last Jedi achieves a fifth-consecutive weekend atop the box-office, and while that's impressive, it continues to drop harder than expected. It has fallen pretty far behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens after five weeks in release, after debuting nearly as high (down just 4%) and achieving a comparable second weekend to it as well. Perhaps poor WOM is having an impact, like it has seemingly in every other market, because it's probably going to finish below ¥8 billion ($70 million) unless it manages to stabilize almost immediately. It's looking at ¥7.5 billion ($67/68 million) right now, which is good, but that's going to be down a harsh 35% versus Episode VII after debuting within 5% of it... It's also assured to come in below all three prequel films, too, and will have to settle as only the fifth highest-grossing film in the Star Wars franchise. >Kingsman: The Golden Circle retains its position in second place, and has already outgrossed Kingsman: The Secret Service after just two weeks in release. The Kingsman second outing is aiming for a total around ¥1.75 billion ($15/16 million), up 80-90% versus its predecessor -- very impressive. >The 8-Year Engagement enjoys one of the best holds this weekend, and probably locked itself up for a total of ¥2.5 billion (~$23 million). It's currently at a multiplier of ~8.5 and will easily exceed a 9, and could even approach/hit a 10. It's not unusual for a film to reach a 10 multiplier if released in mid-December, but it's typically reserved for just one film of the season, and this year may have two. >Destiny: The Tale of Kakamura holds pretty well, especially considering it was up 20% last weekend. It's very likely to reach the ¥3 billion (~$27 million) milestone now, and should exceed a multiplier of 10 in the process. This is a nice result for dir. Takashi Yamazaki, and for Toho, and continues to solidify himself as one of Japan's most-successful modern directors, both critically and financially. >Yo-Kai Watch: Resurrection of the Demon King is down a lot, unsurprisingly post-holidays, and is only going to crawl over the ¥2 billion (~$18 million) milestone. It's going to experience nearly a 40% decline from its predecessor, and unlike the previous sequels in the franchise, it's not going to improve upon the last films' legs either... definitely a worrying sign for the Yo-Kai Watch movie franchise. Last Weekend's Actuals, along with this Weekend's Actuals will be posted tomorrow as well.
  8. For comparison, Inside Out also increased thurs through Sunday. Then dropped 65% on Monday and increased tuesday and wednesday. However Inside Out had far less competition. A drop of 70% or better for COCO should be hopeful. Anything better than 60% and we're talking big money I am assuming Monday is not a holiday, which it could be.

  11. I believe it is breaking out, as it actually increased from OD (thurs to fri), as well as increasing sat to sun as well! Meaning it's increased every day so far. With a good drop tomorrow, it may even take #1!
  12. Well, I expect previews will do pretty well (maybe a couple million £), but I have no actual data. My basis is that my theater is a very quiet theater usually (I went to see Moana OW and there was 5 people in a theater for 250), but this first showing had about 30 or so. I'd expect it'll open well next weekend, possibly £3-5m with good legs. Pixar usually has decent legs for their original movies, so I'd hope it can reach £20m+ if the rest of the UK enjoy it as much as I did. The only other basis I have is that most of the audience were mums with 4 - 7 year olds. Maybe that was because it was 10 am, I don't know. But the children were quiet throughout the film, meaning they were likely not bored. Seems promising. Also about half the audience stayed during the credits to listen to the music!
  13. But EP8 bumped 18%, Jumanji is looking like +35%? Saturday is about 100M for Jumanji, WOM better than Jedi
  14. I promise there's no spoilers here! Just got back from a 10am preview showing of Coco in the UK... and oh my oh my oh my I must've cried several times and the visuals.. those songs... the story! If you haven't seen this, I advise you to go watch it as soon as possible, it really is the best (and beautiful) animation of 2017. Also, I don't know much about Mexico's "Day of the Dead" traditions, but I feel like this film taught me all about it. I was able to connect with the film on multiple levels despite my lack of knowledge. I feel like this is going to play really well in Japan because of that, they appreciate family and I think that's all you need to be able to fall in love with this film! For anybody who's more familiar with the tradition, go watch this immediately - you'll fall in love instantly. I'd say this is definitely in top 3 Pixar for me, and perhaps with a rewatch it might creep up to 1st. Phenomenal job Disney, truly inspiring.
  15. Umm, clearly Avatar 4 and 5 are a little off their... My visions say that's just the China gross...
  16. If I read correctly $0.8m including midnights, about 116k admissions opening 3rd

At this pace it should finish about ¥8.7b ($76.9m), roughly 75% of TFA's ¥11.58b ($102.4m) total. I'd say the range at the moment is about ¥8b - ¥9b ($70.7m - $79.6m), depending on whether late legs fall apart or it recovers well after a pretty decent opening from Kingsman. All USD are at todays exchange rate.
  18. https://www.avatar.com/quiz/ Fun little quiz, this was my result: You would connect best to the Clan Omatikaya Omatikaya are: Spiritual, friendly, artistic, welcoming A roaring fire. Delicious food and drink. Warm company and the laughter of your friends and family. There is nothing that speaks your heart and soul like being part of the Omatikaya clan family, living and working together in harmony in the forest – the Na’rìng – under the protective shadow of the great Kelutral, The Hometree. Dexterous and nimble, you excel at crafting beautiful and functional weavings that are used to support the larger Omatikaya community. Pretty pleased with this result, seems to reflect me

Day 35% Changes Versus Same Day Last Week. "And the New Year boost is over, at least the weekday boost. Most workplaces reopened on Friday, following the New Year and Bank Holidays, so this Friday saw some big drops versus last Friday. However, the first weekend of January tends to be very strong, so expect this weekend to beat last weekend (which full actuals still aren't available yet due to the three consecutive holidays this past week) with likely increases across the board thanks to families/kids/teens flooding theaters before school begins again. Also, excellent first day for Kingsman: The Golden Circle. I don't think it'll beat Star Wars: The Last Jedi for the weekend (since it should increase, or remain flat at least), but it's going to easily outgross its predecessor. Japan may become one of its five strongest international markets."
  20. It's looking quite likely at this point that it may be one of those real China failures that doesn't even increase on Saturday!

  22. Looking at a roughly 40% drop for today based on 2/3 market attendance, going to say about ¥160-180m based on yesterday. Will likely drop again on Friday as I think new year/winter break comes to an end. Will post Corpse's estimates later when they come in.

Pretty good increase, will drop tomorrow as not a bank holiday as opposed to today
  24. Based on the two-thirds of the market admissions compared to yesterday, TLJ is up 7% in admissions, so that would estimate roughly ¥295m for Wednesday, however I seem to remember that the first wednesday of every month is special in Japan. I may be misremembering that, but at the very least TLJ should be flat from yesterday. @Olive Skywalker Can you fact check for me whether the first wednesday of each month is a thing? Thanks EDIT: I misremembered, thanks Olive. TLJ heading for 290-300 today then
