JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW
Stewart replied to Corpse's topic in International Box Office
Well here is the equivalent days for TFA: Weekday Estimates (01/04-08)Monday Estimates (01/04)¥285,000,000 ($2.38 million), +02%, ¥6,686,000,000 ($55.42 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Disney) Day 18¥165,000,000 ($1.38 million), -27% ¥3,948,000,000 ($32.77 million), Yo-Kai Watch: Great King Enma and the 5 Stories (Toho) Day 17¥84,000,000 ($701,000), -10%, ¥2,186,000,000 ($18.06 million), Orange (Toho) Day 24¥39,000,000 ($328,000), +03%, ¥2,601,000,000 ($21.48 million), 007: Spectre (Sony) Day 32¥36,000,000 ($300,000), +56%, ¥1,315,000,000 ($10.91 million), Living With My Mother (Shochiku) Day 24Tuesday Estimates (01/05)¥160,000,000 ($1.35 million), -55%, ¥6,846,000,000 ($56.77 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Disney) Day 19¥115,000,000 ($965,000), -57% ¥4,063,000,000 ($33.74 million), Yo-Kai Watch: Great King Enma and the 5 Stories (Toho) Day 18¥63,000,000 ($529,000), -50%, ¥2,249,000,000 ($18.59 million), Orange (Toho) Day 25¥30,000,000 ($252,000), -26%, ¥425,000,000 ($3.53 million), Chibi Maruko-chan: The Movie (Toho) Day 15¥18,000,000 ($151,000), -62%, ¥2,619,000,000 ($21.66 million), 007: Spectre (Sony) Day 33% changes versus last week. HOWEVER! Due to the calendar configuration, I'm pretty sure that they're not directly comparable as TLJ will have larger Wed-Fri than TFA. However I'd expect it to normalise somewhat after the weekend ends. TFA was at an estimated ¥8.241B after Friday, I reckon TLJ will be at maybe ¥6.2-¥6.7B, So down 18-24%. If it develops strong late legs, it could get within 20% of TFA, but am thinking 15% is a stretch. I also don't know what competition is coming up. Note that Monday-Wednesday are bank holidays, and the weekend was severely down due to New years, with this weekend likely to increase into the double digits! TFA gained ¥619m on it's 4th weekend, but again it's 3rd weekend was the 1st/2nd January so was very large.- 23,671 replies

JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW
Stewart replied to Corpse's topic in International Box Office
Indeed it isn't. Outside of Horror (generally not released in China) and Pixar (toxicity in China before Coco) of course. Perhaps using the fact that most (maybe all?) Pixar films have grossed more in Japan than China, we can conclude that Coco will gross >$180m in Japan?- 23,671 replies

So Star Wars still doing amazing numbers, with the biggest increase from Christmas Day among the top 10! Should do big numbers all week as lots of people off work I believe.- 23,671 replies

I have a long shot hope that Incredibles is #1 domestic next year. It feels like a perfect storm brewing. Exceptionally positive response from teaser, Pixar is huge, animation is pretty huge, superheroes are massive right now. I mean, things could go very right for this film and we could be seeing I2 > IW (Dom), and perhaps even Pixars largest to date. its the similar reason to why I think Jurassic world 2 is gonna do gangbusters, you just don't see dinosaur films coming out, and people love dinosaurs.

I'm patiently awaiting @EmpireCity to storm in with a 'subtle' "I told you so" to all those nay-sayers! I'll admit, I don't often post, but I read every email I receive, and I've gotta say I've learnt to like Empire's, sometimes rude, but majoritvely insightful. I feel like I've genuinely learnt a lot over these weekdays, half of which I suspected to be true anyway, but Empire cemented these suspicions. Allowing me to predict and follow the box office more closely So I just want to personally thank you. I know it's been a rough week educating, but you've done a terrific job! (Also Rth has been quieter, but still immensely useful and appreciated as always!)

Yesterday, Maoyan was predicting a final total of ~730M I believe, well Maoyan has updated its daily estimate to a whopping 1.022 Billion Yuan final total, which is not only the biggest jump in their prediction in a single day for Coco, but it's also a total over $150m, as many here have been hoping for! -

According to Maoyan, Coco has now hit 200M yuan total! Although that number should be more than doubled by Sunday... -

Ratings at Douban at 9.4 (3.9k reviews) and 9.6 at Maoyan (1.7k reviews). Looks like early WOM is pretty fantastic! Currently at 11.6M yuan opening day ($1.76m), with presales for tomorrow at 3.4M (presales for OD ended at about 2.3M), so looking at a healthy increase tomorrow. This is running surprisingly close to Zootopia in terms of showings, and about half sales. Zootopia I believe started on Maoyan at 9.8? So don't expect over $200M for Coco, but it's looking very likely to become Pixars best in China (currently Finding Dory at $38M I think) -
Coco | Pixar / Lee Unkrich | Now playing | #1 all-time in Mexico
Stewart replied to AniNate's topic in Box Office Discussion
Coco has 27k showings today on Opening day, in comparison Justice League has 53k on its 8th day. EDIT: Justice League had 117k showings on opening day and Thor had 114k EDIT2: Zootopia had 29k showings on Opening day, and 38k and 41k on Sat and Sun. Depending on how tomorrow looks after today, Coco could be in for a zootopia like run -
Little bit of a shame though, as he could've trumped everybody this time by posting JL in dollars to make people feel not *quite* as shit by the result... (Or for the haters, make them go jelly, but not full on liquify)

If TLJ doubles at the low end from now until release, then it ends up with 150% of Rogue One presales, as Star Wars films likely have similar walk up rates, that would indicate an OW of $232M, and a total of about $798M, that seems about right for OW, and perhaps good for Total, but maybe this will be a little more front loaded than RO, so gonna say this prediction points to a 232/750 run. -
At the moment. 2020 might make it thrice. And maybe 2025 will make it FOUR TIMES!! #TrustInJim

Yeah typically it's not an issue as films are rated plentifully early ahead of ticket sales. Last Jedi is a special case as it went on sale some 60 days(!!) early. -

Nope, as a Brit myself, I can say family tickets are discounted bundles of 2 adult tickets and 2 child tickets. As you mentioned, since we have strict age restrictions, we cannot buy family or child tickets until the film is rated by the bbfc.
