  1. ^A lot of people wouldn't take the idea seriously if Kong was dwarfed by Godzilla. By the way, the movie's official website is now up. There isn't much on it right now, though. http://kongskullislandmovie.com/
  2. It's still not going to make its money back, so I'm not sure what your point is.
  3. The angle they used for that running sequence made me laugh. Unfortunately, I can see this doing poorly like Pan, In the Heart of the Sea, or The Legend of Tarzan. I'm noticing a trend when it comes to making movies about (or based on) characters who are at least partially public domain entities. I don't see this one faring any better than the rest. It might do well in Europe, but that's about it.
  4. It has to contend with Shin Gojira and The Legend of Tarzan starting on 7/29 and 7/30 respectively. The week after, it has to compete with Rudolph and Ippaiattena (8/6), another animated movie featuring talking cats. Plus, the aforementioned One Piece Gold will be in theaters for a while as well. I'm pretty sure The Legend of Tarzan won't be something to worry about judging by how Pan and In the Heart of the Sea performed there, but Godzilla is a relative unknown in this case. It's been 12 years since his last motion picture. Tomorrow (7/25) there will be a premiere for Shin Gojira. The reviews will either help that film or damage it.
  5. Entertainment Weekly spoke with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and the cast about the movie. They discuss some of the story's background and explain what they hope to convey through this film. Also, Vogt-Roberts wants to follow in Edwards's footsteps by making Kong look like a god.
  6. People bitched about Godzilla before, during, and after its run. People will do the same before, during, and after Kong: Skull Island's run. I'm seeing people bitch right now because the trailer is "too Godzilla-like." It wouldn't matter if Kong was in the movie for 30 fucking minutes, because some would complain that there's "too much Kong, not enough drama." You can't win with people. You just can't. So I ignore all of it.
  7. I'm hoping for the same thing. Thankfully, I have seen The Kings of Summer and I'm pretty sure that unless the story is awful or the studio meddles with the final product, Jordan Vogt-Roberts probably made his talent shine effectively. My concern lies with the story written by Max Borenstein. Gareth Edwards liked to tease more than most directors (and his style of filmmaking--while pretty--failed to captivate me when the talent was onscreen, and this is why I couldn't enjoy his other film Monsters). Jordan isn't Gareth. However, Max also believed that the constant teasing was a good idea, so he went with it. He's the one I'm worried about. Speaking of which, how popular is King Kong in China? I would imagine that a movie like this would do as well as Godzilla (2014) did.
  8. It seems about on par with the first trailer for Godzilla that was released two years ago. As a matter of fact, the only bit we see are his legs, a bit of his upper body, and a clouded view of his face. So it could be even less. Reminds me of the 1976 Kong with his stature and all. He's bipedal this time.
  9. That's insane. I hope it does make that much just so I can see it happen.
  10. The trailer for The Woods made my skin crawl. This....not so much. I feel slightly betrayed, and I have no idea why...
  11. I liked the 2014 movie, but I do agree that this movie has to do more this time around. Hopefully without Gareth, we'll see more of Kong. I feel that it will be different this time around because as far as we know, there aren't any antagonists to steal the show this time around. (Watch. This statement will haunt me tomorrow.) I like this more. It shows his eyes better, and some details on his face.
  12. Legendary has revealed the movie's synopsis and also boasts a new poster which shows a glimpse of our favorite giant ape. http://www.legendary.com/film/kong-skull-island/
  13. Just saw this. I'm not going to write out a long, drawn out review because I don't know how to rate horror movies (they don't scare me in the slightest). But I believe that Lights Out utilizes the tropes of the horror genre to avoid becoming a genre film and stands out as its own kind of thing. I would probably say that anybody who enjoys The Conjuring will probably like it. I only wish that the antagonist looked different, merely because the ghost itself is uninspiring and typical of what I have seen in horror movies over the last decade. But that wasn't enough to make me dislike it. Bottom line, I thought it was entertaining (not scary). It certainly helped this movie to have James Wan aboard as producer. I'd say it was worth the price of admission.
  14. FUNimation has licensed Godzilla Resurgence and will be distributing it later this year. Exact dates to be determined. http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2016/07/21/exclusive-funimation-licenses-godzilla-resurgence/
  15. I'll be seeing this at 7:00 PM. I'll share my thoughts on it after I see it.
  16. As an individual who still weeps every night over Dredd's abysmal box office intake, I can attest to this.
  17. I could also see it having a domestic gross similar to Warcraft. Cranston and Banks will bring big name recognition to this movie, but it has some things going against it--what you mentioned and the fact that there is a lot of competition in that month.
  18. From August Ragone: "GODZILLA RESURGENCE" TO HIT 100 COUNTRIES - Toho's Greatest Global Distribution of All Time http://augustragone.blogspot.com/2016/07/godzilla-resurgence-to-hit-100.html *Crosses fingers for a theatrical release.*
  19. If you're talking about Finding Dory, it will also be competing with One Piece Film Gold which opens on 7/23. The One Piece movies are proven money makers. The previous movie made ¥6.85 billion ($65.2 million) in the domestic box office alone.
  20. The movie's official Facebook page has been set up. https://www.facebook.com/KongSkullIsland Added: So has their official Twitter account. https://twitter.com/kongskullisland
  21. I still wish he was bigger than 100 feet, but in any case I am excited to see what Legendary has in store for us with their take on the Kong mythos.
