So I actually feel kind of bad being german these days. While this is breaking the OW record in the US, it'll just barely make it to the top 100 all time openings (admission) over here, coming in behind even JP 3. No kidding, true story. What is wrong with us? I don't get it.

Of course it will. JW did a JP over again. No sequel, no plot idea has the power to come close to that original idea. Everything else is so much smaller and so will the BO be. Where am I wrong? People aged 20-30 were not born for two years to the age of 8 when JP opened. So while quite some 7 or 8 year olds, maybe also 5 or 6 year olds, saw it, it most definetely was not the core audience back then.

I think you misunderstood what I wanted to say. The argument was about him saying the 20-30 year males were a main target audience for this and I was asking myself, if this was true, as most out of that age group haven't seen the movie in theaters, so my point was, that there shouldn't be a reason, why this age group should be todays main audience. And I'm really quite surprised how many of you went to see this movie at the age of 6 or 7. My parents wouldn't have let me see it and i'm pretty sure, I would have been too scared. But I guess thats the difference between Germany and the USA. While we can see boobs everywhere from the age of 6, you guys go to horror movies and to the shooting range.

Deep Blue Sea did 73m in 1999, so yeah, it may not be destined to bomb, but there's no way I could see a Shark-Attack movie come anywhere close to Jaws unadjusted in todays horror-standards.
