  1. Air gives a good idea of how badly Nike were doing before the Air Jordan. With Disney, they're in a much better position compared to the 1970s and 1980s when they were in a bit of a rut of how to proceed and it took Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg to turn it around. Eisner while his tenure ended badly did some smart moves such as going into television, creating divisions for more adult oriented films and making moves into areas such as theatre which proved fruitful. 20th Century will likely pay off long term. Things like The Simpsons and Family Guy will be generating revenue even if they stopped making new episodes as well.
  2. CEOs love hanging with big names and actors want to be in the good books to get a project made and let's be honest. In a year's time, they'll be kissing and hugging at all the major parties.
  3. No surprise it has all the premium formats.
  4. It's amusing how people are declaring Disney a dying company. It clearly isn't.
  5. And creatives running studios like UA also ended in ruin in the 80s with Heaven's Gate.
  6. I honestly don't get this whole 'business is ruining creativity' Hollywood is and will always be a business. Same with Broadway, video games etc
  7. Is Dakota Fanning any good? Strange they managed to make a short film sluggish.
  8. When you consider that they paid $71bn for 20th Century Fox and are today only $48bn in debt shows how profitable Disney are as a company. Outside of movies and theme parks, things like the stage musical of The Lion King is generating big bucks every year.
  9. Walt was a businessman as much as he was a creative. It's a bit silly to suggest that he went into making movies for fun.
  10. Like Bob Iger? He started his career as a weatherman and worked his way up. I do think people forget it's called show business for a reason.
  11. The way people go on, you'd think Disney is going to collapse but I imagine it'll bounce back like they always do.
  12. Doesn't mean they'll be doomed forever or in any danger of shutting down. Give it a year or so and everyone will have forgotten about this moment.
  13. From Paramount's POV, this film has successfully rebooted the franchise. OS is harder to pinpoint because it's still not been released yet in some major markets.
  14. UK release is this Thursday but it's not getting much in terms of timings and it's up against The Equalizer 3 plus the continued success of Barbie and Oppenheimer.
  15. Disney isn't going to collapse because they increased pricing despite your best wishes it does.
  16. Globally where Disney+ has all the Hulu programming, it's a much better service compared to the US version.
  17. I'm sure they'll try and goose the numbers but I suspect it'll be overshadowed by the holdovers as well as The Equalizer 3. I don't think faith based films ever do well in the UK.
  18. Clearly UK cinemas don't think SOF will do big numbers over here.
  19. I liked Theater Camp but it's something that is not going to play well in the multiplexes.
  20. I'm surprised The Equalizer 3 isn't getting any push in showtimes from NCD given it's got all the PLFs.
  21. The brand synergy from Star Wars is a moneymaker in itself with merch, licensing and the various attractions at the theme parks not to mention owning ILM as well so they've been earning money from it since they acquired it.
  22. TBH once the strikes are sorted and they have a good period, people will stop calling for Iger's head.
