Death on the Nile was overshadowed by Uncharted, it was amusing to see Kenneth Branagh promoting Belfast with a bit of 'oh, Death on the Nile is out next month'.
Given how it fared OS, the numbers for Gran Turismo aren't too surprising. I think Sony just had no clue how to market it and I suspect even without SAG AFTRA being on strike, the cast wouldn't have increased awareness by much.
I think had Kraven been delayed to February, it would be seen as a strike delay but a 10 months delay is giving me turd vibes.
I still don't know why Lionsgate keeps delaying White Bird, that movie was completed in 2021, no amount of publicity from either Helen Mirren or Gillian Anderson is going to save that film.
In the case of Ghostbusters, the December date was always a bit tight and Kraven's massive delay suggests Sony wants to do reshoots to salvage it and the strikes gave them the perfect reason.
I would imagine things will go into hyperdrive once the strikes are over. The idea that they'll be nothing in those quarters is daft because that won't happen like at all.
The video game industry is in a much better position than in the 1980s mostly due to the fact the big players are Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft as well as the likes of Activision Blizzard and EA.
I dunno, this year we've seen a lot of movies suffer because there has been little breathing space and probably a delay here and there isn't going to have a huge impact.
WB for example shot the majority of their 2024 films in 2022 and the first half of 2023, the only thing they have that was shutdown is Beetlejuice 2 which could make its release date since it's not until next September, Juror Number 2 which being a Clint Eastwood film probably was close to wrapping and Twisters which is only half their film.
TBF it made sense at the time as Netflix was dominating the market, the biggest mistake was pricing it so low. I think WBD pricing what is now Max at $14.99 is a genius move in hindsight.
The internet always get mad at CEOs, this idea that if we get rid of rich people, the world will be a better place is both unrealistic and frankly stupid. There's been rich people since the days of the Romans.
I would point out the reason the video game industry collapsed in the 1980s was due to poor quality games being rushed out to market, it's not a like for like comparison to what's happening to Hollywood right now.
I wonder if the move both a week earlier and a Sunday is due to The Equalizer 3? I think Sony would want that to sell at full pricing whereas they don't care as much for GT.
Also it'll be the first solo Superman movie with a new actor in over a decade.
Some people on here love to revel in the doom and gloom and it's really grating.
