  1. Not to mention that even good writers occassionally write stinkers e.g. Simon Kinberg with X-Men Days of Future Past and Fantastic Four. Given that film is the director's medium, a lot of decisions are usually down to the director, scripts tend to chop and change even throughout production
  2. I assume WB must have thought Fuchs had potential when they hired him for Wonder Woman and TBH the first script often doesn't resemble what goes on screen since they're usually rewritten with input from the director.
  3. I think doing a low budget film does mean you have to make the story work. I think he should do more mid budget films because it's clear that huge budget films don't work for him.
  4. It's a win for M Night as he self financed it so he'll likely be getting a good chunk of the profits.
  5. In situations like this and FF, it's the studio trying to salvage the film. With FF, it was basically had to be reshot again, with Pan which I imagine is nowhere near the same situation, I imagine the execs from WB saw the unfinished film and realised it hadn't turned out the way they have envisioned and just had to work with what they had.
  6. I do think it would nice to see a conclusion to the series. I've always thought having the baby from the first film return as an adult would be a good idea, it's weird that we've not seen any humans in the sequels
  7. How many theaters does Steve Jobs expand to next week? $521,000 from 4 is amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets the top spot when it goes wide. Everest OS total has saved it given its poor domestic performance, should end up breaking even or making a small profit.
  8. I like Joe Wright but it seem WB had too much faith giving him a huge budget when the previous biggest budget he has had as a director was $60m for The Soloist.
  9. Given Universal's great year, a few flops aren't going to hurt them. Steve Jobs is looking it'll be a hit and Sisters will do decently as well plus they have Legend and The Danish Girl which should well in limited release. Sony are likely thrilled that HT2 is doing great, I wonder if they pair it and Goosebumps together as part of a double feature to get good numbers later in the run.
  10. I imagine they'll try and make Cars 3 a better film given the muted reception from Cars 2.
  11. As soon as WB moved it to October, it was a write off. Steve Jobs did pretty well in limited release, the budget is only $30-35m so it'll do well just from domestic
  12. It was greenlit by the previous regime at WB so I guess by the time the new regime came in, it was already in production so they couldn't do anything about it.
  13. A live action Lion King film would be tricky to pull off especially there are no humans in it. The Jungle Book will likely be a good test for Disney to see if a photorealistic talking animal film can be a huge hit but then again if they managed to pull off a hugely successful stage musical based on the film which is a lot harder to do on paper than I think a live action film with CG animals could work
  14. Jack Jack as a teenager and Violet and Dash as adults would change the dynamic somewhat with perhaps Bob and Helen either retired as superheroes again
  15. Jack-Jack would be the same age as Violet was in the first film if they go the 15 years have passed route but then again FD is set only months after the original so it may be they only set it a short time after the original.
  16. 2020 will see the first Pixar film released in the Spring, I guess WDAS taking the Thanksgiving 2019 slot meant a reshuffle.
  17. I imagine Universal and Illumination are pleased Toy Story 4 moved back a year as Cars 3 won't have an impact on DM3 as much as TS4 would have.
  18. Unless it's $100m or less, we likely won't see a superhero film in September or January unless it's being put there as a write-off.
  19. SPA is the only animation studio to not have a $200m domestic grosser yet, HT2 will be the closest if it can hit $175-180m. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up outgrossing Home OS which is doable considering the first film did $210m OS Kind of weird that Sony decided to put Goosebumps only three weeks after HT2 but I guess as one is a hybrid and the other fully animated, perhaps they thought they could co-exist
  20. The Intern was $40m so clearly WB didn't allow lavish spending like past Nancy Meyers films. How Do You Know's budget was just indulgent, the fact that Sony terminated James L Brook's deal after that film bombed is quite telling. Little Fockers had a $100m budget but that did have big names as well,
  21. I'm surprised The Martian only cost $108m even with big salaries for Damon, Scott and a decent salary for Chastain. I guess filming in Hungary and Jordan saved a ton of money plus I imagine they got tax breaks.
