  1. The Secret Life of Pets is very unlikely to crack $300m, it would need a OW similar to Minions for that to happen and given it opens the same day as Star Trek 3, that's not going to happen.
  2. I'm surprised Pitch Perfect only cost $29m, the original IIRC only cost $15-16m but given the pay bumps for Kendrick, Elizabeth Banks and the rest of the cast, I thought it would be nearer $50-60m. Compton is profitable just from domestic, the OS gross is just gravy and it's done very well in the UK and Australia, even if it gets to $50-60m OS which is paltry compared to domestic, it's doesn't really matter to Universal.
  3. I rewatched the trailer and its indeed the original Macintosh and not the Lisa. The film is adapted from the authorised biography and that gives an insight of what Jobs was like as a person.
  4. It's interesting that they went for the Lisa, the NeXT and the iMac but I imagine the reason was that it represented different decades of Jobs' life and career similar to why they shot in 16mm, 35mm and digital
  5. I suspect the money from the corporate hire will more than cover the costs and likely it'll mean the earlier and later screenings will have more business
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if OLS has exclusivity for the Monday 8pm showing since it's sharing with Empire, I can't see it on the Monday since I'm away that week but have booked for the Saturday at the BFI IMAX
  7. Looking for Alaska is with Paramount and even though Paper Towns didn't do that well, I'm sure it'll still be made.
  8. Paper Towns was always going to be profitable, I imagine they'll still make John Green films but not schedule them in the summer
  9. So do Ice Age and Dory, China isn't exclusive to DWA and Universal you know... $250m would require good legs and I don't see it with such heavy July competition, $150m+ would be a more realistic and still pretty good final domestic total
  10. It does look really good but I think Best Picture is unlikely, I think Universal are more likely to push The Danish Girl for awards than Steve Jobs
  11. Against Ice Age and Dory? Those two alone will dominate OS, I think Pets moving into summer was an unwise move by Universal, to expect Minion or DM numbers is unrealistic especially in a year with tons of animated films with talking animals.
  12. I think IO's chances of getting to £40m are pretty good despite schools having started again since they're nothing for kids until HT2 has previews in October
  13. Forgot about No Escape, guess that will do okay
  14. Considering that mid to late September has seen $30-40m OW openers like The Equalizer, HT, Maze Runner etc it would be interesting to see a studio take a punt on Labor Day weekend. Perhaps WB could move up Storks or Sony with The Magnificent Seven next year to Labor Day weekend October has no holidays apart but yet it's slowly become a popular month for adult dramas and things like The Martian.
  15. Considering they only had less than a year to start from scratch. I think they did quite well.
  16. That's the UK release date I believe, it'll probably go wide during December or late January
  17. I'm guessing Mission Impossible is number 2 then Transporter then Inside Out then UNCLE. Hopefully Maze Runner and Legend will reverse the slump next week,
  18. Pets is unproven and whereas Star Trek has done $200m+ domestically for the last two films and is being released on its 50th anniversary so they'll be plenty of coverage.
  19. Voice work takes only a few days if not hours to record although they're planning to reanimate the character to match the performance of the actor which will add to the budget
  20. TBH Even if Spectre does do less than $1bn, it would be a huge success for the franchise and Skyfall was really the perfect storm of a great Bond film tied with the 50th anniversary.
