I think that some expect Joker bump for TB 2 like TDK since he's the most popular of Bats villains. But that movie captured the zeitgeist beyind just Joker's presence plus there was Ledger's death so how much Joker alone proped it is hard to say. The character is wildly popular, though, since Phoenix version bcame first ever R movie to crack a billie. We'll see.

I think there's a big difference. MCU produced over 20 movies from different IPs across over a decade before bombs started to happen. OTOH, SW just got a revival and then TLJ pretty harsh drop from TFA, divisive reaction that still rages, Solo undisputed bomb and TROS losing 50% of TFA audience must have come as a shock since they happenbed within 4 years of the re-launch. So they panicked and retreated to D+ where they had a cultural phenomenon Mando. In short, unlike MCU that took early risks which paid dividents, Lucasfilm shat its pants after the first setback and gave up. I mena, TFA was the safest most fanservice thing ever. They never took risks. Ever.

THE MARVELS | 121.6M overseas | 206.1M worldwide
Valonqar replied to kayumanggi's topic in International Box Office
I need WW opening under 162M cause that's Barbie's dom OW. For shits and giggles cause my Yes We KEN Club was ridiculed back in July 21 2021 that The Marvels OW >>> full Barbie run. How times have changed! -
and they will look like even bigger fools if they don't cancel Rey Palpatine movie right this moment or The Marvels will look like Endgame compared to that bomb. There's a lot to take away from The Marvels that will apply to Rey Palp: women won't show up, men will dominate but in much smaller numbers than ever before and most will hate it, new foreign markets never took to SW like they did to MCU so it's a bust there, old markets didn't support Solo and pretty much supported ST cause of old cast since audience heavily skewed older. It's a flop of flops in making.

It is the fault of whoever didn't wait to see how the show would be received before greenlighting this superbomb. Shows were still untested at that time especially as lead-ins to movies so they should have waited. I said in Cap 4 thread but turning movies into sequels to D+ shows was a giant mistake that they still can't shake off cause they greenlit a number of them.

Want to congratuate our tireless trackers on bang on job! As for Gen Z and Alpha, they will find their own heroes, not these hand-me-downs from Millenials. That's what studios don't get. Replacing old faves with younger versions is not going to appeal to next generation cause next generation needs its own heroes. And new versions of previous generation heroes are not their heroes.

I think it applied only to WV cuase buildup seemed to lead to MOM and it turned out Strange was originally slated to show up in the finale. But I don't recall demands for other shows. I think that fans were more critical of Marvel's BS hype that shows need to be seen cause they connect with movies rather than that fans want such connection (and lately they are certainly against it).

No TV show, absolutely none, should have gotten a movie as its sequel. Completely idiotic idea. They should have made shows, if they wanted shows so badly, only with characters who would never get movies and be in movies. Like Agents of Shield minus Coulson. That kind of stuff. Instead, they created mess with interconnection that simply wasn't going to work, ever.

And The Marvels and over half of D+ shows but even so connecting shows and movies was a giant mistake. They made The Marvels a direct sequel to a fuckin TV show that flopped, small wonder the movie is flopping too. Whoever thought interconnection between movies and shows was a good idea should resign. It was a catastrophic strategic decision that they still cannot shake off cause big chunk of their upcoming slate is still full of TV connections and characters.
