Movie is far from just "nostalgia" anyway, it does a great job integrating its past elements in a way where none of them feel wasted, and even provides additional closure to the previous two series.

Well I have not seen it so I will have to take your word for it but given the performance box office wise I have to assume you’re right

I guess, but all it takes is one bad hour to be just 119M and some folks here are gonna be all doom and gloom when/if that happens. But chalo, I don't have to bear that, its RTH's turn. 😛

lol anyone who is doom and gloom after 120m after 1.5 days is CRAZY pants.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. DAMN close to the best. Bye bye Black Panther.

I’m a believer now that we have reactions. It’s being praised almost unanimously across the board and it seems to have managed fan service with good filmmaking.

    $235M OW x 3.1 = $729M DOM

I want to believe but I'm sorry I can't see those kind of legs after a massive opening weekend during a pandemic.

600+ though. I sure as hell love to be wrong though seriously give me that 700 plus baby

Even with the pandemic, the MCU movie with the worst walkups and Thursday-weekend multiplier (Black Widow, which was probably only weak because all the hardcore fans went to see it Thursday night, while a lot of casuals probably just stayed at home and watched it on Disney+) still had more walkups and a bigger multiplier than Solo (which is the Star Wars movie with the biggest Thursday-weekend multiplier with 5.99, while Black Widow's was around 6-6.1). Even Endgame's multiplier was barely below Solo's at around 5.95.

Best thing it has going for it is the insane reviews. That could drive walk-ups for sure. Regardless if it's heavy for opening weekend, the next 7 days will be monstrous. 600+ domestic, hoping for 700 but that's asking a lot

There are some people who think this movie will be very presale/Thursday night heavy and that it will have very low walkups. I don't think this will be the case. I know we are in a pandemic and that movies are now way more presale and Thursday night heavy, but I don't think it will be as frontloaded as a Star Wars movie.

With the pandemic and tons of people skipping opening weekend due to crowds (aka me) I disagree.

Ramming into tight squeeze spaces with no one wearing a mask? Nah I'll wait till it's quieter.

Nothing is binding for two weeks, but I guess an updated look at where my head is at (I know previews are locked for contest purposes, but I’m going to keep updating that field to give a cleaner picture for the full weekend):

USERNAME PREVIEWS TRUE FRIDAY SATURDAY SUNDAY TOTAL
    Legion 48M 75M 81M 69.69M 273.69M

I truly didn’t realize what these were going to sum to until I did the sum at the very end. But it is what it is I guess 🤷‍♂️

Omicron is going to scare plenty away. Let's all squeeze next to each other isn't exactly appealing. I will see it but zero chance opening weekend. Updated mine as well but down not up.

The reason Marvel keep pretending like nothing and don’t show them in trailer is that they want you, the audience, to find the magic moment of three spider boys together by yourself in theaters instead of just telling you we have it so come and see. Because this strategy will make people realize the necessity of big screen experience. If the moment is available in whole internet because of trailer, it would make the movie less look like a big event worth to go theater.

As long as they are in it I agree.

Nor do I. My comp between the two is merely to show that the hype this has is at an insane and different level than any previous SM film. I mean, my OW prediction is almost 40% less than Endgame’s and even with holiday legs helping it I still think it falls ~$200m short of its domestic total.

That's fair. I consider this a hype comparison from Infinity War vs End Game. FFH vs NWH.

I'm trying to stay out of this, but I would like to say, I too agree that I don't buy into the "more hyped than Endgame" spin.  Have people really been waiting NINE YEARS for [Spoiler Spoiler Vague Vague Leak Leak]? [Spoiler Spoiler Vague Vague Leak Leak] always felt more like a mixed bag -- some stuff people like, some stuff people didn't, the memes will live on FOREVER.  All positive things that would yield warm and fuzzy nostalgia and definitely increase interest.  But that wasn't Endgame.  Endgame was the greatest marketing event of all time.  They strung the audience along, whipped them into a frenzy for EIGHT YEARS and then left everyone on most insane cliffhanger since like, well, "Luke, I Am Your Father."

I buy into the concept that the Internet is Excited TM for Spider-Man: No Way Home.  I don't buy into This Is Endgame.

lol people were so desperate for end game that Captain Marvel went nuts. That was genius by marvel. Finally my 7 year old is ready to see Captain. Marvel and excited. Very empowering for her. She wants to see Ant Man more lol

Because the hype/interest for this is several multiples beyond FFH. You keep making that comparison while failing to note the obvious difference in the interest we've seen for it so far.

Venom just did $90M. The idea that a film that IS MORE HYPED THAN ENDGAME would only beat V2 by 10-20% is frankly an odd take and almost some kind of strange denial at this point.

All I can say is, prepare to have the hell shocked out.

Nope. Gonna stop you right there. I don't care if trailer reviews turn into rainbows. Hype on this is nothing like end game. Not even close.

I saw zero movies twice in theater in my entire life before End Game. Including Infinity War. I saw End Game 5 times and in 2 countries!

Based on the way you were talking in the NWH thread I thought you were lower than that. This seems quite reasonable actually. There was no need for us to argue at all!

Yep I agree! I thought folks would think I was crazy pessimist but I'm not!

:D I just don't like people insisting on 200m guaranteed in pandemic. 180m would be badass outside of pandemic let alone in one!

I genuinely will be happy if it beats my prediction and goes for 500m in December. Lord knows the box office needs it!
