  1. So what are everyone's thoughts on Thursday gross? Can it stay flat?
  2. @The Futurist Honestly, is it possible for any Tarantino film to be a long bore??
  3. I realize you just got out so you're probably not ready for a big write-up, but what are your quick thoughts? Thumbs up? Thumbs down?
  4. It wouldn't be a Tarantino film if it WASN'T decisive or it didn't have parts people didn't like. Tarantino makes some weird movies. It's par for the course, especially in this outrage day and age, that people are going to express their dislike online, which will affect ratings. We shouldn't really care. Just see it for yourself.
  5. Seeing this in an hour's time. I'm unusually pumped. As much as I've enjoyed all the big movies I've seen lately, I'm ready for a change from all the known franchises. I need some new blood, some fresh air.
  6. Thank you for this response, @terrestrial. It's very intriguing reading about a non native English speaker's experience learning the language, especially when it's self taught. I guess, being a native speaker, I'll never really understand how difficult it is to learn. I for one love the German language so I'd love to learn someday. I took French up to Grade 11 but stopped there. I was good at reading, writing and even speaking - but I struggled listening to someone else speaking it and understanding them and being able to reply instinctively. All these years later I've come to learn that a lot of that is because I'm very hard of hearing, not just with volume but with enunciation. I struggle enough understanding everyone in ENGLISH if they're not speaking very clearly, let alone trying to understand someone speaking a foreign language.
  7. This is a great point. During the rest of year when people or in school or work is maybe busier it can be tough to fit in another showing or two of a movie you really like. Summer affords you more of those opportunities. Again, good point.
  8. Exactly! He was trying to shift the goal posts when he mentioned the 3 week contract but my point would stand even without that!
  9. Gotcha. Thanks. Thinking I better read up on all the details. Seems I'm getting a lot of the facts wrong. I'm going to be pretty disappointed if The Rock is out of Fast 10 (I know he's already out of Fast 9). Let's face it: he elevated the franchise. He got me interested anyway. That's not to say I don't appreciate the original crew either.
  10. Maybe I haven't followed the situation enough but isn't the issue mostly with the Fast crew, who don't like that the Rock is getting a spin-off?
  11. I wonder if Statham is the guy who's awkwardly in the middle of the drama between The Rock and the rest of the Fast crew lol. Of has he chosen a side?
  12. So @Geo1500 is arguing that summer isn't a good time to release a movie and that Aladdin and TS4 left money on the table. Seems legit.
  13. Great argument. You're definitely an intellectual and not the lowest common denominator.
  14. Awesome! I really hope it's showing somewhere here in Calgary. I didn't get a chance to catch it when it released. It was only playing at one theatre in Calgary at the time so I have my doubts this time around but we'll see.
  15. There is ONE new release this weekend. One that is a purely adult-driven film. It's a Tarantino film so it's kind of a big deal but it isn't exactly going to be stealing premium screens from TLK when it's going to open to about $40M anyway. Why you want to paint Disney as evil Nazis because they're mega blockbuster is keeping all its premium screens in the face of one new adult opener is what baffles me.
  16. The only time - at least that I can recall - I've fallen asleep in a theatre is when I saw a matinee of Looper. I was working nights at the time and I couldn't get to sleep in the morning so I stayed up and a few hours later decided to see a movie.
  17. Haha, you and I think very much alike! I always justify seeing a movie by accumulating points so I can see the next one for free. It's also how I un-apologetically justify spending absorbent amounts of money on popcorn combos. I accumulate tons and tons of points.
  18. A $191.8M opener in just its 2nd weekend? Of course it's going to have all those screens! I realize it's popular to pile on Disney but that is...par for the course. Disregard if you were bing sarcastic.
  19. It also leads me to believe that there will be more flashback scenes with the kids than we maybe thought. They might still be a huge part of this movie.
  20. Wow! Epic! @baumer Having read the book I have to think the runtime is warranted. What about you?
  21. @terrestrial Out of curiosity, what was the toughest part of teaching yourself English?
