  1. I expected Wish to be one of the bright spots of Disney's 2023 calendar. The reviews totally caught me by surprise. In retrospect, The Little Mermaid's $570m WW doesn't look bad now considering all the negativity that movie had to face.
  2. I agree but Raya was not a disappointment, at least critically even though I think that movie plays it too safe.
  3. Yeah the movie was great but the third act is much better in the book and makes a lot more sense. Still the movie was pretty good. THG Ranking: 1. Catching Fire 2. The Hunger Games 3. Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes 4. Mockingjay Part 2 5. Mockingjay Part 1 I know a lot of people see this movie as a desperate way to bring back a popular IP but honestly they have done nothing wrong or desperate. It is an adaptation of a book and not a made up story (Fantastic Beasts), pretty well adapted and made just in one movie from one book (The Hobbit).
  4. I was hoping for 'The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' to do a bit more. I was feeling a Hunger Games comeback between my friends non-stop talking about it and my TikTok, I guess it was just my personal experience. Seeing it tomorrow. I feel like something has to, at the very least, overperform otherwise what a boring end of the year to track, specially compared to previous years. 'Wish' would have been my bet but latest reviews were not particularly good. I'm also not feeling it for 'Wonka' but a lot of people that I know are so...maybe. Otherwise it's up to 'Aquaman 2' and 'Migration' and seeing how DCEU movies and comic book movies are performing this year my bet is on 'Migration'.
  5. I don't think MCU current status can be blamed in a few mediocre-to-bad movies (Multiverse of Madness, Eternals, Love and Thunder, Quantumania). While those clearly hurt the Marvel brand I think the Disney+ and the multiple characters and story lines being introduce play a much bigger role. The Disney+ shows IMO really diluted the Marvel brand, not only did they make their brand accessible at home for "free" making their movies less of an event but they also asked too much for their not die hard fans to watch and follow those. Don't get me wrong, I loved some of those shows (WandaVision, Loki, MoonKnight) but even as a huge Marvel fan my excitement when the next MCU project hits has lessened. The other big problem is the amount of characters and future plots that they are introducing while not really explaining their main saga (the Multiverse). The Infinity Saga worked because each movie was like a piece of a puzzle and each movie built upon the previous ones until Infinity War-Endgame epic conclusion, some of those movies may not have been the best but because everything was so well build it payed off at the end. I don't really feel that with this phase, too many characters are being introduced, too many stories are being hinted for the future and rarely one of them is resolved within the next year(s). I mean the post credit scenes for Shang Chi, Eternals, Multiverse of Madness, Love and Thunder or Quantumania will likely not be continued until at least, if lucky, 2026!! Same with some characters, who knows when we'll see Kate Bishop, MoonKnight, She Hulk, Wanda, Vision, Thor, Shang Chi or the Eternals back? Without going into spoilers, they all have story lines opened.
  6. Yeah same. That SNL sketch was pretty awful and I am pretty disappointed with Timothee. I might not watch this at the end, same with Noah Schnapp and Stranger Things 5.
  7. This is a pretty good new date for Mufasa. I think it was going to tank (Alice 2 style) in its previous release date next to Despicable Me 4. Now during Christmas and without any other huge movie opening next to it I could see this finishing with a decent DOM and WW number. I know Sonic 3 is opening next to it but I see that doing max $250m DOM which leaves a lot of room for another movie.
  8. This was pretty good, better than the first and probably mid tier MCU. My two biggest complains about the movie are its runtime and the villain. The movie feels like it needed 20-25 min extra to explain some certain things, it jumps right into the point and from there it doesn't stop until the end in which then the emotional moments don't pay off as much as they should have. I think more backstory on how Carol destroyed the Kree IA, the villain story and probably more time with the main trio getting to know each other would have been appreciated. My other complain was the villain, she's kinda just there and just serves her purpose of movie´s bad guy. I feel like her villain origin story could have been explained and expanded much better and would have resonated more with the audience. She doesn't have a bad origin for a villain and her motives make sense, she is just not given any time in the movie aside from action sequences. I don't feel like ranking every MCU movie right now lol but from this year alone this was much much much better than Quantumania, which to me is lowest MCU (together with Dark World), and worse than Guardians 3, which was just fantastic.
  9. The Marvels was honestly a lot of fun, had a great time watching it. Definitely on the good side of Phase 4/5 movies. It was good, funny, and straight to the point (which is maybe my biggest criticism on the movie). Sad that it is doing so poorly, it is better than the first and Kamala steals the movie, although Brie Larson shines much more than in any of her other appearances in the MCU. I hope that, even if it is a big failure, these characters continue their story.
  10. That looks pretty good and people seem to be reacting positively over Twitter and TikTok. I'm sure they will explain in the movie why these emotions appear now and why they weren't in the first movie. Could be a great year for Pixar and WDAS if they release Zootopia 2 over Thanksgiving 2024.
  11. Yeah, still early but reviews will not save this movie. At least the movie doesn't seem to be a disaster and "the worst MCU movie" as some people were hoping for. Edit: Post credits have also leaked on TikTok. I accidentally found out about one because I just opened the app and it was the first video there. Be cautious if you want to avoid spoilers.
  12. Some of you complain about everything. If they release a trailer because they release a trailer, if they tie it to the previous MCU they are desperate, if they don't then the movie probably sucks, if they have cameos they are desperate, if they don't then because it doesn't move the story forward and it is probably useless to watch it. This movie is going to bomb, miracles aside. That's it, it sucks that it happened to this movie which IMO looks great and not to Love and Thunder and/or Quantumania but it is not because people hate Brie Larson or Captain Marvel. Ratings for MCU shows are also considerably lower compared to the 2021 ones.
  13. In retrospect, it is amazing how well Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 performed. I think had it been released in 2021-2022, or even before Quantumania, and it would have easily crossed 1 billion worldwide.
  14. I don't think The Marvels will be as badly received as Quantumania, The Marvels looks like a fun, short and silly adventure in the MCU while Quantumania promised a lot more that did not deliver. However, The Marvels has a lot more competition. I think, at worst, it will be received similarly to Love and Thunder which would kill any future legs it may have. Best case, it lands on the 80-90% range on RottenTomatoes. I am quite excited for the movie but I seem to be the only one.
  15. Yes I know. Also I realized that I left Elemental out of my Top 100 when it would have absolutely made it but since 2023 movies don't count it doesn't really matter. Also in my list, Lady and the Tramp and Dumbo are the old movies, not the live actions
  16. I would agree if Oppenheimer would not have just done $945m WW. Yeah that is Nolan + Barbieheimer effect but still...
  17. 2024 is looking pretty weak right now. I know some people predicted Snow White and Elio to bomb/underperform but still, them moving to 2025 makes the slate much weaker. On top of that, Dead Reckoning Part 2 has moved to 2025 and it looks like Twisters and Deadpool 3 might also move (If Disney doesn't release Deadpool 3 during the holidays). If Deadpool 3 moves to 2025 I think one of the big animated movies (Despicable Me 4, Inside Out 2, Zootopia 2) takes the year for sure even if they all end up in a $750-850m range WW. My bet is on Despicable Me 4 based on the consistency of the franchise but if Inside Out 2 or Zootopia 2 (not confirmed yet for 2024 but I think it will take the Thanksgiving 2024 spot) deliver then I would not be surprised if they make over $1 billion WW. Other contenders are Joker 2, which I think it is going to decrease to a $650-750m range, but who knows and maybe Gladiator 2, but trailers and reviews will make or break these movies IMO.
  18. I really want this for Christmas 2024. It could really be another No Way Home, on a smaller scale. Christmas 2024 needs a big blockbuster, 2023 is looking weak if Aquaman 2 bombs.
  19. You guys are obsessed with The Marvels and it hasn't even opened yet

  21. Since this is the Eras Tour Movie weekend, here is my ranking for Taylor Swift albums, coming from a big fan: 1. Folklore 2. Lover 3. Speak Now 4. Midnights 5. Evermore 6. Reputation 7. 1989 8. Red 9. Fearless 10. Taylor Swift (Debut) Debut, Fearless, Red and 1989 have some of the best Taylor Swift songs but a lot of skips too. Lover, Midnights, Reputation or Evermore are more consistent IMO. Folklore is just a masterpiece and when I truly started to become a huge fan of hers.
  22. If Thunderbolts moves to 2025 then Deadpool 3 should take that Christmas date. As for the potential 2026 movies I bet they could be Shang Chi 2 and Doctor Strange 3, no idea about the third
  23. To me this is the biggest disappointment in the MCU. You manage to get an amazing cast consisting of Samuel L. Jackson, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke and Ben Mendelsohn, together with a potentially amazing comic story line and you make the most generic, boring and mediocre show possible in a rushed 6 episodes with some of them being under 30 min total. Seriously?
  24. Some of you guys are acting like The Marvels will kill the entire MCU. This hasn't even been released yet, chill. Hopefully this will get good/great reviews, and even if it doesn't I think Quantumania and the Disney+ shows have caused more damage than a mediocre Captain Marvel sequel. They are not going to completely ignore Captain Marvel as a character in future movies and remove her from the MCU, as much as some of you would like that. In my opinion, they have realized way to late of what was happening to the MCU but hopefully they will course correct it for future phases. Unfortunately, upcoming movies are going to underperform because of this. I think if this would have been released in 2022 it would be tracking way better.
