  1. I think TWE is shown in 125 theaters this weekend, double the number of last weekend. I was trying to insert a pic listing all the showtimes in NA but I didn't know how to. Anyway, they finally added showtimes in the city where I live, so I watched it for the second time tonight. Saw more problems this time. I will give it a 6.5/10.
  2. 01/24 2.5m 02/04 2.9m (+410k in 12 days) 02/12 3.4m (+500k in 8 days) Should be able to do at least 4.4m by the end of Feb, right?
  3. I guess we will never find out, lol. But $50m is a long shot. I feel like Kongfu movies is the only genre that can attract that amount of audience in North America. Besides, the downside of a dubbed version is that it will probably lose some Chinese audience's interests. $20m is more reasonable Imo.
  4. Based on what I have seen on social media, almost all moviegoers on the first weekend are Chinese. Unless this movie can attract more local moviegoers (which I highly doubt), I expect it to be frontloaded. Also, it depends on whether the movie can get an extension in theaters and showtimes. A lot of my Chinese friends want to see this movie in theater, but there are no showtimes in smaller cities or smaller college towns. I hope it can get an extension soon, get it before pirated version came out online (I heard it is already online) which will consume quite some potential viewers.

  6. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/box-office-lego-movie-2-wins-soft-35m-liam-neeson-iced-1184693 At the specialty box office, the Chinese sci-fi epic The Wandering Earth impressed with an estimated $1.6 million from 65 theaters in 39 markets. Timed to Chinese New Year celebrations, the movie posted a location average of nearly $25,000, the best of the weekend.
  7. Watched the movie. I would not go as far to say it’s a masterpiece. It’s not. I saw problems with the plots, acting, and pace, etc. The visual effects are good but not excellent. But given the low budget, I would say they are impressively well done. As a Chinese, I have no difficulty understanding why mankind would choose to utilize the planet as a giant spaceship, instead of just carrying genes and DNA away to another planet, leaving all mankind on the Earth to deaths. But I wish this movie had devled a bit further into the core. All that being said, I personally think this is pretty decent blockbuster. Even by Hollywood’s standard, it’s average or above-average. To be more concrete, I think it’s better than 60-70% of Hollywood sci-fi movies made in recent years, and better than 70-80% of those with a similar budget. The idea is novel and cool and some scenes are remarkable. They made the best use of every penny. It’s absolutely a good start for Chinese blockbusters and I hope many more mature works will follow!
  8. Domestically, it should handlily surpass The Mermaid (Mei Ren Yu), which made 3.23m in 2016.
  9. My friend and I are thinking of driving to Chicago to see this movie. It's 4 hours drive one-way. Not sure if it's worth it.
  10. So true. As a Chinese, I found this movie makes more sense than defending the galaxy with force and lightsabers. Super hyped for it.
  11. Good news is that AM&W is doing pretty well on its OD in HK, despite so-so pre-sales. It seems like people would still go to see the movie in theaters, but don't feel the need to buy tickets in advance. After all it is not an event movie like BP or IW. Hope it does the same domestically.
  12. Taiwan opening week: 7.9m, SK: 14.2m, per BOM.
  13. Astonishingly good or astonishingly bad?
  14. The only memorable fight scene from DCEU is WW's warehouse fight. That was astonishingly beautiful, which puts it in line with several of MCU's best fight scenes.
  15. First of all, if I want to spin something, it bas to be accurate or close to accurate. But man, you gave pretty bad predictions.
