  1. Avatar is James Cameron’s baby. I don’t see why he’d want to turn it over to someone else. George Lucas did that with Star Wars because of how stressful making the first one was. I never got the impression that Cameron had that kind of experience.
  2. In terms of pre-release buzz, MoM had the advantage of being the “sequel” to NWH, even though it really wasn’t. People were convinced the movie would be something it ultimately wasn’t, which I imagine contributed the word of mouth being as mixed as it was. This movie doesn’t have those kinds of expectations. It just needs to be fun.
  3. The more I think about it, it seems weird that WB didn’t immediately seize on the December release date.
  4. Sigourney Weaver playing a teenager wasn’t something I was expecting to hear.
  5. It’s impossible to tell at this stage what this whole mess will entail for the movie’s box office potential. This just might as well be rebranded as the all-purposes Ezra Miller thread at this point. The discussion around them has completely overshadowed the rest of the movie.
  6. I didn’t realize there were so many movies coming out in November next year. Yeah, something’s gonna have to move.
  7. If this “only” opens in the $140 million range, then I think people on this website who were predicting it would claim the July record got a little carried away after NWH. That movie was a special situation.
  8. I agree with the sentiment that the MCU has gotten way too busy these days. Four movies a year already seemed a bit daunting, but now they also have to juggle multiple Disney+ shows per year? The MCU used to be fairly simple to keep up with, but now it seems like a homework assignment.
  9. Has anyone else noticed that all the Phase 4 Marvel movies that have been released so far each have different Cinemascore ratings?
  10. Not gonna lie, the uncertainty over what the big event movie of the 2023 holidays will be is kind of annoying at this point. I’m gonna go ahead and assume it won’t be Indiana Jones, because that’s been delayed enough as it is.
  11. I hadn’t even considered that this movie might be placed in the December slot, but I guess if it worked for the Jumanji movies, why not? So, unless that Star Trek movie comes out that month, I’m assuming the big releases of December 2023 will be this, that Willy Wonka movie and the Snow White remake.
  12. Phase 4 has been a lot more inconsistent than Phase 3, that’s for sure. It managed to do the one thing the Perlmutter era never managed to pull off; making an MCU movie with a low score on Rotten Tomatoes, but said movie was followed up with Marvel’s biggest crowd pleaser since Endgame. I’m assuming that the greater workload is probably making it more difficult for Kevin Feige to manage everything. Marvel Studios never had to balance both movies and TV shows before (the ABC and Netflix shows weren’t produced by Marvel Studios).
  13. John Krasinski is too predictable of a choice anyway. Marvel usually casts outside of the box.
  14. This movie not getting released in China is the one thing that I can imagine genuinely making the citizens mad at the CCP.
  15. I hope this movie does well, just so all those “Get woke, go broke” idiots who cheered over Lightyear flopping will have egg on their faces.
  16. The first two Iron Man movies were made before Disney bought Marvel. As for GotG, James Gunn is also pretty fond of raunchy humor. Even his Scooby Doo movies are full of them.
  17. I distinctly recall a line about orgies in Thor: Ragnarok. Meanwhile, the trailer for this movie ends with Thor being butt-naked. That’s fairly risqué for a Disney movie.
  18. To tell the truth, I don’t particularly care for Waititi’s brand of comedy, and the man himself also comes across as just a tad obnoxious. I do think it’s funny, though, that he’s become such a staple of the Walt Disney Company, despite his risqué humor and eccentric real life behavior.
