  1. All I know is that Mr. Vallelonga probably shouldn’t have said that Trump was right about how thousands of Muslims were cheering for 9/11.
  2. I guess I should just be glad that a Disney movie didn’t win Best Animated Feature for once. I guess it also makes some sense that Roma didnt win Best Picture, given that it already won Best Foreign Language Film. Still, Green Book is probably the the most vanilla movie to win Best Picture in a while, but given how unconventional the lineup this year was, that’s not too surprising.
  3. “Accounts of celebrations in Jersey City and Paterson, both of which have large Arab-American and Muslim populations, spread quickly in the days after the attacks. Most accounts have been debunked.”
  4. Well, it’s not like the “original” Lion King was a very “new” movie either, given that it’s a rip off of a Japanese comic and cartoon...
  5. Uh oh, Brie Larson is going to appear on the stage. Brace yourselves for the shit storm...
  6. Maybe Eight Grade or If Beale Street Could Talk or something? Hell, I’d rather Infinity War be nominated over BP.
  7. The backlash against BP getting a Best Picture nod is partly from people who don’t care much for superhero movies in general. I’m not one of those people, as I am a lifelong fan of the genre, but that’s something to keep in mind. As for me, my problem with the movie being nominated for Best Picture is that I genuinely don’t think it was good enough to earn it. Sure, it was an enjoyable enough movie, but even as far as Marvel movies of 2018 are concerned, I preferred Infinity War. Aside from having a predominantly black cast (which, don’t get me wrong, is a big deal), there was nothing really daring or out of the ordinary about it. Sure, it discussed some serious themes and ideas, but it mostly only paid lip service to that stuff. Apart from that, it was a fairly straightforward Marvel movie with an unremarkable third act. I’m not trying to seem like a whiny manchild or whatever, but i don’t think the Best Picture nod should go to a movie just because it has a high Rotten Tomatoes score.
  8. I just can’t imagine any other year in recent memory where a fairly standard superhero movie and a standard biopic (BR) would get Best Picture nods.
  9. TDK couldn’t even get a Best Picture nod. There’s really nothing special about BP that makes it anymore qualified than other superhero movies, unless you like dated effects and cringey references to dead Internet memes.
  10. I stand by my argument that BP probably wouldn’t have made the shortlist if the Academy wasn’t starving for ratings. It just seems too convenient. I know that they have voters who decide on these things, but there’s no reason to assume that at least some of those voters didn’t have ratings in mind.
  11. Considering that they were trying to introduce a “Most Popular Film” category, it’s difficult to imagine that the movie would’ve been nominated for Best Picture otherwise. Who’s to say that the thousands of Academy voters didn’t vote for the movie at least partially to ensure bigger ratings?
  12. On the other hand, if Green Book wins, it’ll probably be seen as the new Crash.
  13. Black Panther is mostly there as a ratings stunt anyway. All I know is that if they give Best Picture to Bohemian Rhapsody, they’re going to have a lot of controversy on their hands, regardless of the fact that Oscar wouldn’t go to Bryan Singer.
  14. It’s a little crazy how this movie had been scheduled for to be released in May for the past three and a half years, yet it has now moved to an earlier date because of the 10th film in a franchise that’s currently running on fumes (no pun intended).
  15. This movie will have finished filming for over a year by that point. They can easily release a trailer for Comic Con.
