  1. I said he’s not technically an intellectual property by virtue of being a real person. If the Barbie movie were about the creation of the doll, then it would have a better claim to being an original screenplay.
  2. Michael Jordan isn’t (technically) an intellectual property. He’s a real person. Barbie is a doll.
  3. My two cents when it comes to biopics is that if the biopic is doing its own thing with the true story it’s based on, then it should qualify under original screenplay, but if it much of its material is pulled from a book like with Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon, then it’s fair game to consider it an adapted screenplay. Anyway, yeah, there’s no reason a movie based on a doll should be nominated as an original screenplay.
  4. I’m pretty sure Casey Bloys didn’t want the Snyder Cut to be a thing either. He and the rest of WB were just forced to go with it because their higher ups at AT&T had final say in the matter.
  5. I think I’m at the point where I’m more excited about Sonic 3 than any CBM this year.
  6. Guess that’s that. David Ayer has moved on. Probably a good idea. Might as well focus on trying to rebuild his career.
  7. Rumors? I thought it was well established that Henry Cavill was up for the role back when it was supposed to be Superman: Flyby? He himself talked about that way back in 2009.
  8. All I know is that Deadpool 3 is the kind of thing that likely would’ve been massive if it had been the next film in the MCU after NWH.
  9. Do people actually like Smallville for non-ironic/non-nostalgic reasons? I thought everyone agreed that it’s a schlocky teen drama that was a product of its era.
  10. I like to think 2025 will either be the year where superhero movies get a second wind or the year they officially die out. No in-between.
  11. I wouldn’t expect this to make as much as The Batman by simple virtue of the fact that Bats has consistently been the bigger moneymaker since the late 80s. I don’t know why people keep forgetting this. Just because Superman is seen as the quintessential superhero doesn’t mean he’s the one who sells the best.
  12. I myself am not convinced DP3 will be as big as fans are hoping, but I don’t know if I believe it’ll open below $100 million.
  13. I guess they’re really not going to confirm the Fantastic Four cast until filming begins.
  14. Speaking of novelty, that’s precisely why I’m not sure I buy that Joker 2 will be a billion dollar hit like the first one. The first one had an undeniable novelty factor to it, and came out at the tail end of the absolute peak of the CBM genre. I can’t picture it being able to recapture that lightning in a bottle now. Then again, perhaps the team behind Joker 2 is aware of that if they’re making the next one a musical. I don’t know if that’ll really help though. It might draw in an audience that may not have cared for the first one, but couldn’t it just as easily alienate people who loved the first one?
  15. Something needs to move to May 31st already. That week is completely vacant right now. What’s the issue?
  16. Dune, a billion dollar hit? I’ve been pretty optimistic about its box office prospects, but a billion?
  17. Makes sense that they’d be reluctant to set a date after everything we learned about the working conditions for ATSV. I don’t understand what they were thinking when they set that initial March 2024 release date. Even if the strikes hadn’t happened, that surely would’ve been a massive time crunch.
  18. I’m pretty sure the box office doesn’t matter to Apple. The budget for these films is pocket change for them.
