  1. I always thought it was weird that they put ‘Part One’ in the title at all. I’m not saying that’s the big reason this underperformed, but I don’t think it helped either. There’s a reason Disney decided not to do that with Infinity War. Same goes for Sony with ATSV.
  2. I still don’t get what these Sony films are hoping to build to. The Sinister Six vs. Tom Holland? Is that really it?
  3. I doubt Superman and Batman in the public domain will amount to much outside of low budget horror schlock like with Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse. Also, gotta love how an article written by Tatiana “he was like Lex Luthor wreaking havoc” Siegel couldn’t resist the urge to bring up a certain director in the opening and closing paragraphs.
  4. I very much do know how they met. I’m more than familiar with the Mad Love story. The entire point of said story is that the Joker manipulated a naive woman who was in over her head, and actively abuses her, while not giving a damn about her in the slightest. What’s your point? I made a club that severely underestimated the movie all the way back around the Summer of 2019, several months before the damn thing was released. It’s weird to me how you seem so fixated on that. This isn’t even the first time you decided to bring that up. I already acknowledged having been wrong a long time ago, and I actually liked the movie myself. Seriously, what is it with you and your constant attempts to call me out like this? What exactly did I do to you? I think I would much rather prefer that you just put me on ignore.
  5. “Love redeems” wasn’t the right phrase. I never meant to imply that he would become a good person because of Harley. What I intended to say was that the whole idea of anyone falling in love with Arthur Fleck comes off like a Tumblr fanfic. The whole point of his character in the first film is that he’s a mentally ill outcast who has no one in his life who cares for him, outside of his own fantasies. I don’t see the point in throwing his character some kind of bone by giving him a girlfriend.
  6. The Joker’s relationship with Harley Quinn in the past was almost never a case of “love.” The whole idea behind it was that he manipulated her and was abusive. I can’t really picture Arthur Fleck falling into that role.
  7. Didn’t the story go that he had a feud with Harold Ramis for the longest time, and they only managed to patch things up shorty before Ramis’ death?
  8. They’re just gonna keep emphasizing the old cast instead of the supposed new generation? Ok then.
  9. This franchise seems to have given up any pretense of being anything more than big dumb monster brawls after KotM didn’t work out so well, at least on the movie side of things. I haven’t watched the Monarch TV show, so maybe that’s a different story. GvK was undemanding schlock that didn’t try to hide it, and it worked out pretty well for Legendary and WB, so it’s no surprise that this is evidently trying to give people more of the same.
  10. When you think about it, that movie was indirectly responsible for the misconception that rabbits love carrots.
  11. So why exactly does Henry Cavill have top billing? We know he’s not the lead, and it’s not like Bryce Dallas Howard is an unknown actress.
  12. Recycling Godzilla+Kong seems to be all they really can do at this point. The entire basis for the Monsterverse was predicated around having Godzilla and Kong fight, and that’s already happened by now. If they at least had Gamera then that would be one way to keep things fresh.
  13. I’m not convinced the Mia Goth lawsuit will cause her to get fired. Chances are it’ll just get settled and business will resume as usual. If anyone wants to claim that it would be a double standard for her not to get fired, just keep in mind that they didn’t officially drop Johnathan Majors until after he was found guilty in a criminal trial. Actors settling lawsuits is nothing new.
  14. What? I know how public domain works. I’m aware that anyone is allowed to make a Frankenstein movie. You’re not telling me anything I didn’t already know. I was using a Phineas and Ferb meme to reference the fact that Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio also came out around the same time as several other Pinocchio movies. I was making a joke.
  15. To clarify my earlier comment, the reason I said this sounds like a Tumblr fanfic is because it makes it almost makes it seem like it’ll be one of those “love redeems” stories. It’s like something a person who felt sad for Arthur in the first movie would come up with. I could only hope this’ll be another case of Arthur imagining something in his head, rather than him genuinely finding someone who loves him for who he is or whatever.
  16. With how absolutely rock bottom the predictions here were, it would’ve been very difficult for this movie to be seen as anything but an overperformer. Some people were apparently expecting this to struggle to beat The Marvels.
  17. I’m well aware of what the “standard Harley Quinn origin story” is. Even in TAS, her “romance” with the Joker was never meant to be seen as #RelationshipGoals.
  18. I would’ve preferred for Furiosa to move back a week, but I guess this works too. Crazy to think we’ve reached the point where Disney is the one who blinks first.
  19. Not gonna lie, that synopsis sounds dangerously close to coming across like a Tumblr fanfic.
  20. If I had a nickel for every time a studio tried to cash in on a well known public domain story at the same time that Guillermo Del Toro was working on his own adaptation of said story, I’d have two nickels…
  21. God, every media franchise from before the 21st century is stuck living in the past.
  22. I would’ve thought Paramount would try to do everything in their power to stay on Cruise’s good side regardless of him and McQuarrie blowing up the budget here.
