Set prepping? I thought they finished filming back in 2020. -
The belief is that he’s trying to juice up the company’s library by emphasizing all of their big IP’s, hence the DC, LotR and Harry Potter announcements. Maybe that’s not what he’s going for, but either way, he’s not really doing a great job at improving the image of the company. Yeah yeah, the company was in debt because of AT&T and all that, but as I’ve said numerous times in the past, nobody forced him to buy WB. This was clearly outside of his wheelhouse. The key to his success was trashy and cheap reality shows that could be pumped out like they’re in a factory.

That’s quite a rebound. On one hand, premiering it at Cannes resulted in a month of bad press, but on the other hand, if they hadn’t done that, I assume it would’ve started with a high Rotten Tomatoes score, only for it to experience a steady decline leading into its release, similar to what happened with WW84, which would’ve led to a different kind of narrative.

I had a bad feeling in the back of my mind that the Spider-Verse movies might not have been very fun to make, especially when I heard that BTSV hasn’t made much progress, despite having been scheduled to come out in less a year, but I tried to tell myself that feeling was unfounded, and that Lord and Miller really are the wholesome fun guys they paint themselves as. Well, at least this makes the production of Solo make more sense.

I guess it’s a good thing this was delayed after all. Hopefully the VFX artists won’t be overworked like the animators for Spider-Verse. -
Even if I wanted to (which I obviously don’t), I don’t think I could find any way to defend Zaslav’s choices. Yeah, the company’s in debt, but the man has been lining his own pockets like crazy for the past couple of years, while selling off parts of the company he bought, and showing no regard for creatives. He is not the kind of boss I’d ever want to work for if I were a creative, that’s for sure.
