  1. great film, with great new cast. Tell Marvel fans that Hawkeye is in it, and it will sell oodles of DVDs. The only problem I had was the length of the drama as the overweight mother struggles to save her son. That was overkill. Still the film had heart warmth surprises and originality. perfect title since it captures that age in troubling times.
  2. this was a fav when if first came out. I've since seen it a few times at home for nostalgia. Beautiful kid fare, though the sequels were hit/miss. This should get a reboot of sorts.
  3. I liked this, and look forward to the already-announced Godzilla VS King Kong due next summer. It was mentioned in the film, along with plenty of easter eggs for upcoming storylines. I thought the facial expressions were very good for the monsters. They were up close and personal. I liked that Mortha was not a wimpy butterfly like in the first film, I liked the explanation of this monster universe for us viewers so we understand what is going on and who each character / monster is. The first film didn't really give us that. This film is a marked improvement over the predecessor and an upgrade from the first in this universe. I did not like the fact that each time a monster is chasing a person, either in a chopper, a car, or on foot; the person can always win. They turn to one direction and it works, then GZ saves them. And they seem to survive when all heck is going on around them. Old school filming so it looks bad seeing them run for their lives against a screen of action behind them, and their luck in never getting hurt is convenient bad film making. Just like they can fly across the globe as bad guys easily shoot in to an armed base, and good guys easily arrive and thwart plans. The whole mom from hell to do such a thing is unexpected but wasn't enough to replace the absence of aliens to go with Monster 0. We hinted at the mini asians that worship Morthra and got no news of the alien threat, only eco terrorists. They all seem to get along and won't hurt one another despite betrayals. That made little sense. But hey the whole human conflict was way too much and thus many of the monsters never got their action sequence. This left me ultimately unimpressed. And that one black box of a communication tool is just amazingly easy, unbreakable, and perfect. impressive. Overall, I like where the universe is set up and going, but I didn't like this as a stand alone film.
  4. I liked the film, and hope they make a sequel. I think that the R rating will kill much of the film's business since the gore and graphic violence is all that makes this film R. (perhaps the head shot too). As an R rated film, this was not satisfying since there were no R rated scares or R rated anything else. And most superhero films are pg 13 to get the wider audience. A sequel should be pg 13 and should do monster business.
  5. PLEASE trust me. there is no scene at the Very end of the credits. you can go home 7 minutes sooner
  6. First let me say this was an event pic for the season, and it tied up dozens of characters and their storylines nicely. I will give it high marks, But..... there were things to bone pick with this movie, and that is where I can best share who I am to all those who read these reviews. First and foremost was the BannerHulk halfbreed thing. It was a lousy attempt to make Hulk cool, give the actor more time without CGI taking over for half, and it was just not funny. Having those big fingers pushing buttons was never going to work, and yet we all know that their plan will go wrong on some level anyway. It came across like bad execution of a good plan. Now the plan involved time travel. An old Antman joke was that adding 'Quantom" to anything makes it sound pseudo scientific. It was still necessary to establish time travel as a means to bring Spiderman back before this summer's sequel and to create some memorable moments. Now we see Future Captain America back in time fighting Past Captain America. That was one of many 'golden moments' allowed with the time travel plot devise. I was looking forward to a better elevator scene. Now there were a lot of stories going on as different heroes were teaming up to retrieve different stones. Didn't they need only one stone to prevent the set from being complete? Things were chaotic trying to assemble all of them. For example, Why didn't Loki's escape bring him to Thor and mom on Asguard? They could convince him to help earth in the end. The whole drunken fat Thor was ugly, un needed and un funny. Giving Cap A the worthiness for a hammer is favoritism and, while in comics, not needed for me. Having Thanos discover the plan but wait for a battle on Earth to strike back was lame. He should send something to each breach of time for those heroes to contend with. another missed opportunity was during that giant final battle, where good guys amassed as big a force as they could conjure. We could have had more pairings. By pairings I mean that the football (stones on glove) gets passed around to different heroes, and when they get in trouble someone else saves them and passes it on. Everyone gets to save/introduce themselves with each other and surprising combinations could emerge. While the site of so many faces all at once was beautiful, the battle itself wasn't long enough. They could have done things like pairings with the ending battle. Maybe have a stone free version of Vision with new powers. I liked Stan Lee's cameo and I was surprised that the quick moment didn't have more reaction from the audience. They saw it and recognized him, but it wasn't a slomo emotion drawing scene. Still, I hope that his material moving onwards and upwards is exactly what he would want.
  7. The film was very amusing and entertaining. While it is more kid-friendly and less dark, there are some pg-13 stuff that actual kids might not enjoy. Monsters with sharp teeth nearly biting children's heads and hard punches that lead to bleeding come to mine. This film is in the same universe as DC and they mention characters throughout the film. A bullet flattened by Superman was sold on ebay, and it was implied that it was from the filming of a superman film, not having been in contact with the real hero. We see a faceless superman in the end. But the jokes on Aquaman are the best. The actor who played Lionel Luthor on Smallville was an excellent casting choice. He set up the villain's backstory well, and fans of all things super will appreciate his involvement. The film will undoubtedly have sequels and they can easily involve other heros or new villains from that comic series. I would look forward to another one soon.
  8. I rather enjoyed this, and it played like the shamalan superhero film that we've seen before. Realistic and well paced for added tension. We all know that M Night is known for surprise endings so he started to ruin his trademark by Not leaving the clues to make a greater payoff because we will know to look for them. If Mrs. glass spoke to one of the teens about comics and how organizations that monitor superior people are a part of the comics we would see it coming. Likewise, the therapist didn't ask what Bruce saw after touching her hand. Usually the villain might overlook this and have their plans foiled. We have an admiral villain for the next film. and with M Night telling us there are more films set for this universe, I did not expect to see the characters killed off. It only bothered me that he spoke of more films before it came out. He must have a new hero that can thwart this group. It should also be noted that Bruce Willis played a ghost therapist in the sixth sense, and that film is also in the same shamalyuniverse. So Bruce couldn't play two characters, and that concern of mine is resolved. there was enough build up and such to make this a winning film. I hope that it doesn't suffer from the DC ManOfSteel syndrome where surprise killings lead to backlash. a great film even with all that death.
  9. I liked the natural humor, as the overcursing Warlberg has some great lines. I wish I knew how close to truth this one is as tje whole Janitor chapter is a bit dark. This was otherwise a great family movie, if your kids can handle innocent swears throughout and some dark matter. I did enjoy it.
  10. I went in hoping to enjoy this film. I like the music and the production values, I liked the returning cast (the few I remembered) but I couldn't get into this film and enjoy it for a few key reasons. First, I do not know the rules of the potter universe or the powers / limitations of the characters. Every time Newt needs to solve a problem he has an ability that allows him to accomplish it. Magic rules. He is never in danger, and he isn't striking me as a brave hero type. he just waltzes through the plot without ever showing signs that he is struggling to make it through the climax. Second, I do not know half of the characters that are prominent from the beginning of the film. I am either expected to know them (were they in the first film?) or just try to figure out who is who and what is what. I'm whisked away into this mission, Yes there is another who wants to rule the world, and rule the muggles and live openly. Third, There is not discussion about the 'peace between us and them' nor do they delve far into the theme that the bad guy is appealing to many. The parallel with our life as hatred for muggles and mix blood is a great theme to make central. The policies that make the villain intriguing are missing. Any details into the brothers are missing. They hug coldly, and polyjuice can be collected. they chase, They team up. then end with a warm hug. I liked that the film began with Newt blocked from travel. I saw the first film, but got little insight into the laws and the family dynamic. While it was nice to see Nick Flamel and younger staff at Hogwarts, ending with a new theme becoming front and center, that Dumbledore has a lost brother was nice, but their whole story seemed like a subplot that convoluted the direction of the story. Now it comes out that there will be more confusing films with young dumbledoor (gay?) in the future. It is a mess, but I do feel intrigued by the possibilities.
  11. I am a musician that loves the Dave Grusin soundtrack written for the film. It carried scenes of so-called-boredom as copying and faxing is going on. We know that there will be chases and showdowns forthcoming, but the film tried to stay true to the source material, and making all that copying look exciting is not an easy task. But I did learn that you can't scuba dive and fly in the same 24 hours. I'll never forget that.
  12. it was a rare breed where a horror film won oscars. Top notch cast, and a 13 year old unknown that is still remembered today for her groundbreaking performance. It built up genuine story and scare rather than have jumps gore for the sake of scares and gross outs. Still there were scares and gross outs in the film. The crawl down the stairs is one of the best moments in horror, ever. It is one of my favs. It can play in theaters every year on Halloween with re releases. And each year it could make more as viewers take their friends to experience it. One to own.
  13. It should be known that this film is a part of the Shamaluniverse. We will see MR GLASS open in Jan, which combines characters from Split and Unbreakable into one film. (thus a shared universe). M Night mentioned that there are several other films in the works for that universe. Cole Sear is a part of that, and a book following his adult exploits is already in stores. Just saying...
  14. First, thank you for adding this film to be discussed. Now why hasn't anyone else seen it and discussed it. Selfish as this may be, I shall review the film. the comedic acting from these mostly new cast members is spot on. The developments are always interesting, and the direction the film takes keeps me guessing as to what will happen next. anything can happen. someone could die (what do we do with the body?) or the place could be surrounded with a negotiator on scene? tv crews? anything could happen. A new relative arrives and adds new insight into the political scheme.. anything. The comparisons on how polarized our society is becoming, (beginning way before Trump took office, but inspired by him none the less) are obvious. and part of that made the film enjoyable for me.
  15. intriguing premise. I was entertained, but it was not what I expected. The idea of seeing a scene from different perspectives was very good. The idea of flashing back to set up a character was not. The whole arrival of a new enemy that joins the motley crew together was a cheap ending. Still the film surprised me and entertained me. No film is perfect, and this is far from it, but it was a blast of fresh air.
  16. Can you add The Oath? It is currently playing in limited release, and will undoubtedly expand nationwide. It was amazing.
  17. I liked this film a lot. We meet an assortment of characters, well developed and recognizable. Shane Black is having fun with the material. Predators, not hunters sound f$%ken cooler. This is perfect summer movie magic. I know it's autumn. A few cons, that didn't detract from being submersed into this world. I don't think higher functioning autistic boys talk like he did. It was uneven whether he can function or is special. The timing is off, as the predator 1 has a head start to get to his equipment, then the troops arrive, then they all meet in town as if the predator can't lock in and get there faster. Everything must be pretty close, the suburbs, the dam, the base. predator 2 blew up the ship without finding the missing piece? stopped searching. And I'll buy an autistic kid gets some of their language, but when did the military mercs have a translator, and why would he speak a message to evacuate? Maybe predators extract the language skills from a autistic boy, but they can get them anywhere on earth. Swallowing tech, then pooping it and it still worked. people can't last that long if they are on the roof of a bus or a space shipe that is flying without falling. And the cool leader of the bad guys dies too quickly. He should be in the sequel setting ending. And global warming adapting their bodies for our world, that was all speculation. That predator 1 was on our side was unrealistic to assume. and they turn out to be true. I hope we live longer than 1 generation.
  18. I went in knowing that, like Skyscraper, this film had Asian influence for marketing. Whatever. I found that the dramatic elements added to make a richer film that is the opposite of Sharknado was both excellent and distracting. It was refreshing to have a film where I know the characters being picked off a wee bit. (Promethius and Alien 4 are the worst offenders of this) We still got ample 'one liners' and fun characters and all the trimmings of a great summer film. To add depth the film has a slow formulaic pace that never built to anything grande. We are missing the soundtrack of Jaws. so it feels empty. We are also missing a tease for a sequel.
  19. Another good example of suspense with a low budget. Good likable characters, and a dramatic theme that adds redemption to the action. I hope this ties in to Glass
  20. First thing you probably noticed is how few people saw this, and how few reviewed it. Good. You are an observant person. Anyone else will notice that we both gave it a D score. Simply put. Don't see it. Thanks for your time intelligent reviewer oh, you're still here? Well, here go the details. This film trods along from one girl's childhood where it all began to her first encampment to her escape to her suddenly switching to a different team to her meeting others in a mall to her going to this magically safe home in the woods to, well going back to her original team because the good guy was actually a bad guy (if you ignore me and see the film, you will see it a mile away) The film rambles on without any sense of building to a finale, with one chapter ending in so linear a fashion that (it must be adapted from a book) I was bored waiting for something to happen. the ending showdown gave us no one to care about. The good guys got to escape, the masses (that I don't know or care about) are either caught or escaped, and the battle between Oranges (don't get me started on that) was anti climactic in a way that seems intentionally unsatisfying without even trying to be comical. It wasn't funny how bad it was. I'd have enjoyed that. It was just bad. And ::spoiler alert:: ended on a moment that implies they will make the continuing adventures into a sequel. Sales (even globally) will not save this from never materializing. I am now stuck with an unended story. It's just bad.
  21. I predicted two things about this movie. First, that turn the phone off and on to reboot it would come to play in the climax. And that the bad guy would have a bomb jacket with one of The Rock's children in the end. (I guessed the boy who thoughtfully switched his inhaler for a knife like in the Last Action Hero). Predictable or not, this film was entertaining. I was successfully lured into the premise, Never thought about the ethnicity of the villains, and never felt assured that The Rock was able to do the stunts his character was put through. I was on the edge of my seat. I did predict that hollo vista would be used in the end, but expected it reprogramed to create a fantasy setting to play in, (with an active recording to further incriminate the surviving evil mastermind. In a sense this film disappointed my expectations, but was still a rollercoaster of fun. I needed that
  22. I thought this was the best film of the summer and an outstanding superhero film in the genre. It wasn't until the climax of the film that I left my mode of simply enjoying the film and went into my adult critical mode. As usual I will focus on the negatives while I still ranked this film an A and give it high priase. When the baby simply lands on the bad guys and in effect squashes all of them at once. I thought to myself "That would be a good time for the baby to exert some new powers and take out all of the bad guys single handed while the older siblings watch in awe. It is at this point I wondered why they didn't take off the glasses and free other supers. Then I realized this is a kids film, and they botched the formula so they must have good reason, They didn't. I laughed when Mr Incredible breaks off the anchor as part of his plan to stop a moving ship. He could use the anchor just as easily. The whole boat stop was messy. I can accept a world with superheroes, and future tech in my film but the conduct of the characters should be consistent. The film ended up disappointing me, but I still enjoyed it.
  23. This film reminded me of many sequels that took favorite elements from the original and 'reworked' them into this film so we get an original story that hits all the right notes. I gave this film an A but I wish to share the negative things that stick with me most. The film (until the very end) is very closed. We do not have Dinosaurs escaping to the city with people running, etc.. We have the horror film troupe secluded mansion. Apparently all the hired troops disappeared. I loved in Stranger Things how the upside down dogs took out the troops. We see very little of this. They all got away and thematically I need to see them go down. Yes the key characters got what they deserve, but we expect more. And that giant train track elevator system was there on the auction floor but not scene in the basement. It was nice to see the new dino open a door, but why does she move slowly before just eating the girl and then sniffing out the others? We have cameos for familiar faces but this Lockwood / Hammond thing eludes me. We are simply missing another familiar. The twist on genetic child breeding is interesting. I hope to make sense of that. Is she Laura Dern's clone/daughter? Did Hammond clone her dead daughter? I missed that. Again, Wu died in the first 'real' book, but like Hammond, he got written into the film's sequel. continuity means little to these people. And the ending credit scene makes no sense what so ever. Why would they now put Blue's offspring into the military? Didn't he oppose doing that in the first film? I don't want to see an Iron Man - esque Rapter VS Terrorist subplot in the sequel. Come to think of it, maybe an A was too much.
