  1. Oh, I don't think it's a bad strategy either. It's the right thing to do for now. I just don't have much faith in WB's ability to develop a successful shared universe. I'll have to see it to believe that they are capable.
  2. I agree, it still can be. Things are going in the right direction but I'm still not that optimistic because I'm not sure WB has much of a strategy, even now. I reall hope BoP is succesful and they can finally bring Flash to the big screen and do him justice. That's all I'm hoping for at the moment, more consistency and success with the solo and smaller teamup movies.
  3. I'm not saying it would have opened to 200M. I'm saying a better movie would have had better legs and thus, likely would have had no problem crossing 1B. DC certainly never had a chance with the strategy (or lack thereof) they pushed. But I don't think they ever needed to replicate Marvel's level of success. A DC universe could have been successful on its own terms.
  4. Huh? BvS made over 800M just on the strength of it featuring Batman and Supes. If it were actually good and well received, it would have had no problem crossing 1B. I'm no Harley fan at all and dread BoP being a Harley solo in disguise but I don't want it to flop just because I want to see a sequel with all the actual BoP members and a Black Canary/Green Arrow movie at some point.
  5. Come on, don't be a prisoner of the moment, lol. IW may be less epic or seem small or less impressive by comparison but it's still a good movie imo. It remains in my top 5.
  6. Don't think my message posted earlier but just wanted to say that I saw the last showing at my theater last night (which was packed, btw). And while I have issues with Endgame, it does live up to the hype and is definitely more epic than IW, though I understand why some may prefer IW.
  7. Such a bad take. Wow. I'm not even what one would call a stan, but if nothing else, the Netflix special shows how hard the woman works. She deserves her success. Indeed, others deserve more recognition but can't blame one artist for something that is way beyond her control.
  8. Just remembed that Hii was cast in a CW show. Don't think he would be auditioning for tv roles if he was about to have a major role in the MCU.
  9. I could actually start to entertain the idea of this movie coming out in 2020 if indeed Hii is Shang. Someone mentioned him as a possibility early on but I didn't give it much thought because it seemed odd that they would introduce Shang as a HS student in FFH. Then again, it would add up if he does turn out to be a secret agent. That would explain why they cast an actor in his 30s as a HS student (thought that was strange too). Anyway, I liked Hii on Marco Polo and will gladly take him over the other names that have been suggested.
  10. Shazam will get a sequel but I don't consider any of these movies box office hits. And comparing Shazam to movies that came out before the MCU and CBMs, in general, really exploded is not exactly the best argument. No, it's not a flop...yes, it's a success for what it is but in an era when unknown heroes can really take off at the box office, Shazam's run will ultimately be good, not great. And that's ok...not every CBM can or needs to make 800M+. That said, I do think a sequel with more spectacle and featuring Black Adam has a chance to do much better, at least domestically.
  11. Jolie as Sersi is no surprise. Figured she was playing one of the leads. I prefer Charlie as Green Arrow but I wouldn't mind this.
  12. And that's fine. I always expected it to open a little below or above Ant-Man. It's funny thinking back to those 80-100M predictions, even 1B ww. I have nothing against the movie but nothing about it ever suggested it was going to be a huge breakout.
  13. Crucial screenwriter? Woman Woman's script was not one of its strengths, it was very basic. Unless Callaham's script is awful, I don't see it being a downgrade. I don't exactly have a lot of faith in WB but BoP is the first DCEU film with a script's that's been praised. That's gotta mean little to no meddling from WB and WB meddling was one of the big problems with SS, yes? I'm more wary of BoP turning into the Harley show than anything else. Joker may have Phoenix but it's the most questionable of all, imo.
  14. I don't see this at all. That would very much make Shang an exception. It's one thing to have the lead locked down already and quite another to say they've cast most, if not all, the major supporting characters without anything leaking. Can't remember this happening with any previous MCU movie...heck, any movie, certainly not in recent years. And I don't think Destin has had the job long enough to have mad these casting choices, along with her every other major production decision. Just seems impossible to me to think this movie could be shooting in a month or two.
  15. Eh. At the very least, he'd bring more buzz than this film has elicited thus far. I'm sure the sequel could at least open big (bigger than the first, for sure) with his name attached. Many will be curious to see him as BA.
  16. We have zero (credible) casting news and just got a director announced last month. How on earth could they start filming this before Eternals? And why would they try? I'd be more than a little concerned if that were the case.
  17. Interesting. I'd say filming wouldn't start on this until the end of 2019 at the earliest. If so, I guess it's likely that Shang takes the February 2021 slot and BP moves to May 2021?
  18. I'm not sure Shazam would be a big breakout even with a better release strategy. Some movies just don't catch on with GA, regardless of how much praise they recieve from critics/fans.
  19. I'm not trying to downplay the significance or success of those movies. Indeed, what the Russos, Markus and McFeely were able to accomplish with IW (and possibly Endgame) is especially impressive. But there are plenty of talented writers/directors out there and I'm sure more than a few would be willing to work for Marvel. That they were able to get someone like Coogler for BP and open to hiring writers/directors like Zhao and Cretton is more than a little promising.
  20. Eh. Marvel should be embracing new/different perspectives at this point, so none of these are huge losses as far as I'm concerned. And as much as I enjoyed IW, it's not a movie without some frustrating flaws. There are other writers/dirclectors out there who could deliver just as well. As for that Priyanka Chopra rumor, I have zero desire to see her in Eternals or any other MCU movie. Let that stay a rumor.
  21. Not trying to turn this into franchise wars thread but Wonder Woman is not in the same league as Avengers or Black Panther. It's a good movie that turned out to have insane legs domestically but that's about it. Lets not act the movie as a whole is all that memorable because it definitely is not, imo.
  22. WW2 is gonna make 1B plus? I wouldn't be so sure. Guardians 2 couldn't even come close, despite the first movie having more international appeal than WW.
  23. Sure but again, I can't think of many instances at all where the first person announced in any movie wasn't playing one of the leads. And I believe this movie has multiple female leads, yes? (Lucy Liu for Shang-Chi is highly possible, by the way.)
  24. When has a villain or a secondary character ever been the first to be cast though? We almost always get the star or one the stars of the movie first and right now, I think it's more likely that Jolie is playing one of the female leads. Plus, I'm not sure we should keep looking to history, particularly since Feige has been leaning towards hiring popular actors as of late. Now, neither Chadwick or Brie were huge names when they were cast but they were both in the spotlight at the time. And if Marvel really wants to sell Eternals as an epic of sorts, I can see them building the hype via casting. The next few names we hear should be really telling.
