  1. Thanks but this doesn't change anything I said. Take a general poll and Cumberbatch would struggle to rate even among MCU actors. He's rarely ever mentioned among the likes of Evans, Hemsworth or even Pratt. Hell, Holland would probably rate higher these days.
  2. So I guess Martin Freeman is a sex symbol too? Lol Not denying Cumberbatch's popularity but among the general audience and media, I don't think he's a sex symbol.
  3. I'm hoping this is Leiko Wu and Shang's potential love interest. I saw speculation that Awkwafina could be playing Shang's sister, if indeed the plan is to substitute The Mandarin as Shang's father.
  4. Please. How is China going to have higher standards for Hollywood stars than its own male stars?? Lol Overall, I would say that Asian actresses are hotter than the men. You keep naming Killmonger but MBJ was not the lead. And I personally don't think he is all that good looking but he got a lot of attention for his portrayal of the character, not his looks. Same when Chadwick first showed in CW as T'Challa. The performance is ultimately what will matter and if Simu is good, more attention will follow.
  5. His fanbase was certainly a factor but if that's all Disney cared about, they would have pursued Zayn Malik for Aladdin. He was a popular fancast with a huge fanbase. Fact is, Harry having a notable role in an Oscar-nominated Nolan movie gave him credibility as an actor, whether you think he was good or not.
  6. I'm sorry but this discussion is hilarious considering the popularity of action stars like Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Jet Li. Even if you look at someone younger like Eddie Peng, he is no more handsome than Simu to me. Not that any of this matters all that much because Shang is obviously meant to be rep for Asian Americans, first and foremost. And the success of this movie is going to depend way more on the quality of the script, directing and acting than anything else.
  7. Who is we? I like Harry, mostly because he is a talented musician who is more charming than any other young singer I can think of. He was a natural in Dunkirk, as Nolan said himself. We will see who ends up in this role but I certainly won't be saying thank god Harry passed. Lol
  8. I'm aware of what was reported. Harry was good in Dunkirk but lets be real, this role doesn't call for a great actor. Given that he actually is a very good singer with tons of charisma, I'm more likely to agree with those who think he is too good for this role than believing he isn't good enough.
  9. Until we actually hear that someone else has been cast, I won't be completely convinced that Harry isn't the guy. There was talk yesterday of his manager following then unfollowing Disney Studios on Instagram and it's just odd to me that he has been the only name attached to the role, especially since it's clear that Disney wanted a big name. As for Marshall, he may not be some visionary director, but calling the man a hack is silly. He's good enough.
  10. Meh. The original source is usually reliable. They were ones who broke the news about Ariel being a person of color, about Harry and Javier being in talks and I still think they've already chosen an actor that they will officially announce at D23. Not sure how that didn't age well.
  11. Lol at McCarthy being a "movie star"... That was not my point though. It was more so about Beyonce and Will Smith being big names who can create buzz. The news of McCarthy playing Ursula was not met with the same buzz or excitement as even this news about Harry Styles, let alone Beyonce or Will Smith.
  12. McCarthy is no Beyonce or Will Smith and Disney knows that which is why they were courting Harry. Seems obvious that they already saw Halle as a risk so they wanted someone else who could bring in the female demo who may not have been thrilled with her casting. Perhaps it will be an unknown but that clearly was not their preference.
  13. This is a joke, right?? Lol Harry has been the only name attached to the role and this news is trending number 1 and 2 worldwide right now. Yikes if this is legit and good luck to the actor who's cast. Disney had to have another option lined up either way.
  14. With D23 next weekend, it's safe to say the hunt is over. Obviously, Disney isn't going to confirm anything until then.
  15. Lady Bird is the least likable character in the whole movie. I could not relate to her at all.
  16. I don't see it as any better than the numerous other coming of age stories that have come out recently. It's certainly not in the same league as Moonlight. And if we're simply talking better coming of age films that didn't get as much hype, Girlhood, Eve's Bayou, Real Women Have Curves make Lady Bird look stale by comparison.
  17. Lol I can name more than a few coming of age stories that were far better yet didn't receive nearly as much hype as Lady Bird. Thank goodness for LM, she saved it from being a complete bore.
  18. Based on what I saw in CRA, Golding is wooden and doesn't have an ounce of charisma. But he is handsome, so that's something. Lol I expect Clarke to shine in this kind of role though, as she was most charming in Me Before You.
  19. I have to say, while neither this movie nor its trailer excites me, the source material and some of the casting assures that it will at least be more interesting than the mediocre and overhyped Lady Bird. Laurie Metcalf's performance remains the only memorable thing about that movie.
  20. Just an update on how princely Harry is looking of late... Seems like he is shooting a video for what some believe is a new album coming out soon. So if indeed he has signed on to this movie, he's going to be very busy for the next year or so.
  21. If she is playing a new character, I'm going to be annoyed because I would much rather see her as the female lead in Shang-Chi.
  22. I'm with you here and I have to say, I count myself as a Nolan fan because not only is he talented but he isn't nearly as snobbish as the "film nerds" who love hyping him up. Remember he was one of the first to say Black Panther would be Oscar nominated, also had no problem casting "boy band member" Harry Styles in a serious war film and made a CBM trilogy without trying to transcend the genre. Not that he's without flaws (I wish he were better at writing/casting women characters) but I find him far more likable than some other film nerd faves.
  23. I don't disagree. My expectations are high for TLM. Matching Speechless is just on the low end of those expectations. Anything less would be a disappointment but I definitely Menken and LMM can and should probably produce something that really stands above the rest.
