Yes, I've noticed that they are the two most popular fancasts (outside of the K-Pop boys. Ha.) and I think they would both be good choices. No, not in nature. It may feature mostly among pale-skinned people but brown-skinned gingers do exist. Although it is an irrelevant point, given who and what we are discussing, yes.

Just had to find a way to fit Avatar into this discussion, eh? Lol You can't help but see Ariel as a ginger girl? Can Ariel still not be ginger? Do pale-skinned people have a monoply on ginger hair? Re: box office, I do think it's important to note why this movie may struggle internationally (yes, racism/anti-blackness is still very much an issue). But this is a first in the same way Black Panther was a first. Yeah, BP had the advantage of being an MCU movie but still, Disney is a popular brand and so I don't think we can look at this through the same lens as any other movie starring a black person or people. I'll take a wait and see approach. I also think who they cast as Triton and Prince Eric will factor into all of this. I'll be surprised if they don't go for a big/popular name for one or both.

Lol This is not comparable to Ghostbusters. No one was clamoring for another Ghostbusters movie. Ariel is a much more popular brand that comes with a built-in audience. And while this casting news may turn off some, there are others who are now interested or excited who likely wouldn't have been had Disney chosen a white actress/singer. I will agree that Disney is taking a risk with this but no matter how it turns out or what happens with the box office, I think it's a good thing that they are willing to try something different.

Is it not a little odd that we're getting crew announcements before any casting news? I admit, I don't always keep up with these announcements so I may be off but since the lead actor is most important, I feel like we almost always get that casting info (or a leak from a reliable source) before anything else. If it's true that they are just now beginning to audition/talk to actors, then it does seem a bit backwards to me.

James Norton. That's who it should be. I've always been a fan and thought he'd make a good Bond but watching him in McMafia pretty much convinced me he'd be perfect for this role. -
It doesn't have an exact date yet but seems the most likely. Shang-Chi is almost certainly getting a 2021 release date. Ludi wouldn't be my first choice for Shang but I would take him over some of the more popular choices. He's good in Black Mirror. No thank you to Ross Butler. Or how about just cast another actress. There are others to choose from. I would love to see Lucy Liu in this. Olivia Cheng would be another good choice.

My goodness, this is such an awful take. The fact that you are even trying to make a comparison between Black Panther and Shaft is wholly ridiculous. A comedy sequel to a movie that came out nearly 20 years ago, which in itself was no blockbuster, being compared to any big budget super hero movie in any way is an absolute joke. I can tell you that as a black woman who enjoyed the last Shaft movie, I have very little interest in this sequel because it looks corny and just plain bad, not to mention that the guy playing Shaft's son is relatively unknown and looks to be a miscast with zero sex appeal. The latter is half of what made Shaft appealing in the first place.

Saw a couple of character details posted elsewhere... The first character we learned of is a “wise, old statesman,” who is “the leader of his people.” The studio is searching for an Asian actor between the ages of 40 & 60. The second character is “one of the leader’s most skilled warriors.” The studio is searching for a female Asian actress, in her 30s or 40s. https://thegww.com/exclusive-first-character-details-for-marvel-studios-movie-shooting-in-australia-is-the-mandarin-or-namor-on-the-way/ The author suggests the first character could be Namor who would be introduced in the Black Panther sequel and while I do really like that idea, I don't think Mavel will go that old with Namor. So to me, these are most likely characters in Shang-Chi.
