  1. It is. I look forward to seeing what Menken and LMM can come up with for TLM. Given the talent involved, I'd hope they can at least match Speechless, if not produce something even better.
  2. With a title like Love and Thunder, it's safe to say romance will be a big part of the movie and I don't think it would be regression for Jane at all. Indeed, her becoming Thor gives the two characters an even greater connection and Taika should absolutely explore that. I actually agree that the MCU, in general, hasn't done romance well, or hasn't placed a lot of emphasis on it. We just don't agree on what does or doesn't work. For me, Peter/Gamora are a standout, along with Peter/MJ (I give the credit to Watts and the writers) and Jane/Thor have more potential.
  3. Chemistry is subjective, evident by the fact that I disagree with much of what you've said here, lol. My point about Jane is simply that she already has a romantic connection to Thor so one should not assume that there will be a Jane/Val romance, which would not resonate as much as Jane/Thor.
  4. I guess I'm one of the few who liked Jane and Thor but even if I didn't, I still think Jane as Thor automatically makes their dynamic more interesting than a new romance between Jane and Val. Also, can Thor have something, just one thing? Lol I love him and I'm tired of seeing him lose.
  5. Not sure why people assume this. Jane is Thor's love interest and I'd say it's better to build on their dynamic and history than stripping that away in favor of a romance between two characters who've had zero onscreen interaction. Just bring on someone else for Val.
  6. Yeah, because this is about your personal opinion as opposed to the larger point, re: why Disney remakes are successful and others are not.
  7. Lol No. The point is, if you're looking for why Disney remakes are successful then look at their reception among the GA. Doesn't matter if you, or I, or anyone else personally think they suck. They resonate with the audience, at large, and that *is* ultimately what matters.
  8. No it's just a remake of superior films with the Joker as the lead. Cute attempt at sarcasm though.
  9. I'm sorry but it's hilarious how this thread started with talk of cinema being saved and Hollywood's OW reaching 50M and here we are now with a B cinemascore and an OW that would be lucky to reach 45M. I like Brad, Leo and enjoy some Tarantino movies but the overhyping is too much. I guess we'll have to wait for Nolan to "save cinema" after all.
  10. So I watched the first season of Kim's Convenience and while Simu isn't given a lot to work with, you can tell he has the potential to be a charming leading man. I really hope Shang gets a love interest I can root for.
  11. I'm inclined to see it this way or I would hope so because the idea that Portman left due to Jane just being the love interest doesn't move me. For one, I never saw her as "just the love interest." I think that's an inaccurate description, one that is often placed on female leads who don't have any super powers. But if that is how Portman saw it, I don't have much sympathy because she knew what the role was when she signed on. That said, Jane as Thor has the potential to be really fun so I'm fine with her return.
  12. And I'm trying to figure out what the problem is with this? Does every film need to be impactful or influential? Can they not just be a good time at the movies? I have yet to even see TLK but these "soulless" takes are beyond trite now and one of the reasons I'm glad it's pulling big numbers.
  13. I'm not crazy about Natalie's return but I did like her in the role and Jane as Thor does resonate a hell of lot more than those other women as Thor, not only because of comic history but because of the established relationship between Jane and Thor. I wanted to like Val more but I wasn't all that impressed with the writing or Tessa's performance. Sif had potential but she hasn't been onscreen enough for me to care.
  14. Yes and that's what will get Cynthia into the conversation. And certainly the Academy does favor movies like this so I'm not ruling her out. Still, I think she's going to have to give a memorable perfomance and/or the film will have to receive rave reviews for her to get some real traction. This trailer isn't nearly convincing enough for me but we will see what happens.
  15. Yeah, I think that's what may give Alfre an edge. I'm certainly rooting for her more than any other actress this season.
  16. Count me as one of those who is not happy with Cynthia as Harriet. I lost interest in this the minute she was cast. As for the trailer, that few seconds of Janelle were more interesting than anything I saw from Cynthia. Taking my personal feelings out of it though, Cynthia may be overshadowed by the Oscar push for Lupita and maybe even Alfre Woodard. The latter got a lot of buzz for Clemency which premiered at Sundance. I don't see the Academy nominating 3 black actresses in the lead actress category.
  17. Rape as a plot device? Groundbreaking. These two could do anything they want and they choose a story that sounds this awful and ridiculous? How dreadful.
  18. Of all the live-action remakes, I think TLM will be most interesting and revealing. If Disney can make a billion with a movie that asks the audience to fall in love with a brown-skinned Ariel (with locs, potentially), that will show the power of Disney's brand more than anything else. However, I am enough of a realist to know that this may be the very thing that prevents it from making 1B. Anything over 800M would be a big win to me.
  19. I imagine Disney will wait until D23 to officially announce the rest of the cast. Maybe they will show up as well.
  20. I liked him in Shazam but he's 16 and looks it. Can't imagine a Prince Eric who is and looks younger than Ariel, lol. I thought this was a pretty accurate take from the actor who voiced Eric, Christopher Daniel Barnes...
