It was abundantly clear in the movie that Phastos did not cause Hiroshima. The person who tweeted this clearly has some kind of agenda. Anyway, if you're not interested in watching the movie, why even bother posting hyperbolically dishonest tweets about it?

He mind-controlled both sides and took them to the Amazon. Then he was going to mind-control all of humanity to stop all conflicts, but realized it was pointless since it would just be his will and not theirs. So then he just settled with the people that he had previously mind-controlled (which was a mix of both) and (implied) just used the mind-control to help them fight against threats. As far as Phastos, I don't think it's on the movie that people are blatantly lying about his role online.

Since posting in the spoilers thread, I assume you are ok with plot details: this is a ridiculous misrepresentation. Phastos did not "do Hiroshima," he helped humans technologically advance earlier in history and then after the bombing of Hiroshima regretted that the advancement he had spurred on caused so much destruction. And Druig does not "spend his days" mind controlling people, he mind controls when there is some sort of threat (so coordinating them to fight) or to stop them from fighting and killing each other.

I wouldn't say no one. I loved the visuals, world, some of the story elements, several of the characters. I don't think I am the only one there, and I don't think that particular issue is at play here, more that overall reception is just very low even if those who did like it can find things that they loved.

Could be also an issue of online ratings vs general audience. Eternals has a 6.9 on imdb, which has been increasing after the initial review bombing. Normally you don't see blockbuster movies with that high an imdb getting a B Cinemascore, so I would definitely say there's a disconnect between people who rate movies online and audiences at large.

That, I can't truly speak to, bc the movie was the opposite of boring for me, but I suspect finding the structure offputting and finding the movie boring have some relationship to each other. Difference with Venom movies is the franchise isn't super plot-driven anyway so it doesn't matter as much what the story is (also the first one had a fairly straightforward story anyway, I would call it many things but not particularly a mess, haven't seen the second though). As far as people remembering this movie, yeah, I have been making this point. If NWH is a well-received smash nobody will particularly care that Eternals had bad reception. However, if NWH disappoints, Eternals disappointing will kinda pile onto that.

But the blockbuster releases that would get those numbers haven't really been present, 2020 was always looking like a down year for the Dom BO, and 2021 has mostly been the delayed releases. We are missing Wonder Woman which would have done big numbers, GvK which would have been an easy breakout was locked in bad conditions, BW pushed to PA, Eternals getting quite bad reviews and reactions, etc. Look at the lineup compared to 2019, the caliber of releases isn't even close. 2022 will be the year to do bigger numbers. Btw, responding to your other post, by caliber I mean anticipation/buzz. Also I think reduced showtimes wouldn't matter that much in Christmas since people are willing to go to the movies on many days anyway. If there aren't enough showtimes on one day business would shift to the following ones.

I guess in normalcy I would expected NWH to do more than double Shang-Chi. There is a huge difference between event films and solo films. I don't think we've had anything close to the caliber of No Way Home since the pandemic to say that 400 or 500 million is such an impossible task. Honestly, are people here more Covid-cautious than the UK that Bond can break all sorts of records but we can't have a movie beat 400? If anything, I would say people are less cautious here.

Honestly, I don't see evidence of people avoiding cinemas for these blockbuster films. It's smaller films that are struggling. Theatrical exclusive blockbusters have been doing normal numbers for a while now. Yes there have been some disappointments, but there will always be those. They're part of "normal" as much as the successes.

Personally would be fine with that but if it did <450 would be kinda disappointing imo unless (and this isn't impossible) Covid cases are in a really bad spot and trending badly during December. Like yeah it's better than anything post-pandemic but honestly we haven't had a really big blockbuster post-pandemic either. This has way more hype than FFH which did 390. Expectations are different for different types of films. This is a big crossover event film and will be judged by that standard.
