My guess is that the energy in the fanbase is focused on NWH. If you released a side character show about the least popular Avenger before Infinity War or Endgame, the same thing would happen. WV and FATWS benefited from being the only Marvel thing coming out at those times, Loki is a very popular character.

Box Office Theory's Most Anticipated Films
Menor the Destroyer replied to AniNate's topic in The Speakeasy
1. Spider-Man: No Way Home (because it's so close and nostalgia I guess, though I didn't like trailers much, looking forward to some nice T&A) 2. Across the Spiderverse (sequel to a 10/10 film, excellent trailer) 3. Avatar 2 (really interested in the effects/visuals/worldbuilding, I bet Cameron has something really cool in store here) 4. Thor: Love and Thunder (Sequel to a great movie in Ragnarok, seems like a smooth production unlike some other MCU stuff) 5. Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom (I forget this is technically coming in 2022, though I expect it to move, really enjoyed the first film, great visuals) 6. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (interested in crazy crossover stuff, a bit wary that it will be a mess though) 7. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (loved the first, this would be higher but without Chadwick and with all the weird drama around Letitia Wright, my hype is slightly tamped down) 8. The Batman (first trailer was meh, but second great) 9. Jurassic World: Dominion (DINOSAURS) 10. Lightyear (trailer was really neat) All franchise stuff as usual, that's most of the stuff I tend to be aware of in advance I guess. Other movies I only learn about close to release. -
The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Annoyingly, errors in MTC2 show counts today. Will try again in a couple hours, otherwise tomorrow. -

They weren't doing that terrible. Nothing huge but they have had many worse-selling previews this year. -

Private shows basically don't matter at this point, hardly anyone uses them anymore. At least at MTC2. -

From last night: Spidey NWH MTC2 Thu: Seats Sold: 349323/733281 (+7222) $ Sales: 4493162 (+87045) Showtimes: 5386 (+18) Fri: Seats Sold: 270555/903014 (+8542) $ Sales: 3228786 (+92185) Theaters: 6042 (+16) The pace did drop from yesterday, I did take these numbers about an hour earlier, so I think in reality the pace was close to the same. -

I agree. Unfortunately I didn't bother with Dear Evan Hansen so I can't use it. -

Am guessing it's just some error in the website (but then with what Misfits said it might be that Fandango/Atom are the ones that are slow to update). Makes the track annoying, but Friday was always going to be more determinative here than Thurs. -

Yeah, looks like they're still up on Fandango, but have been removed from the theater sites...weird. -

So...I'm not sure what's going on, but West Side Story advance tickets for previews don't appear to be available on MTC2 website anymore. Can anyone else confirm this? This is so weird. I manually checked quite a few MTC2 theaters that used to have WSS showings for Thursday, and they have just vanished. Friday is still there thankfully. So will update that and Saturday today. -

Maybe. 4.5 hours it was at 6883/175599, $80723. The lack of PLFs definitely shows in the ticket price. Still it's the fourth biggest PS start of the year at MTC2, behind Spidey, BW, and Eternals. I'm quite impressed considering MTC2 is usually family oriented and doesn't tend to go for R-rated movies. -

Yeah the MTC2 start seems really strong as well. Maybe all these posts above are just gonna look silly. -

Matrix provides some counterprogramming though, I honestly didn't expect it to get eaten up in showtimes like this. First trailer did fairly well but it feels like the buzz has kinda evaporated since then. Hopefully it can surprise positively, December is the time when films can coexist.
