I felt like I never actually saw much of any blow back about FF ending. The only place I kept seeing that narrative driven home was by vieweranon and then it just came out and was received pretty much the same as the last couple and lots of praise for momoa. ViewerAnon has a tendency to try to create mountains out of mole hills at times.

THE LITTLE MERMAID WEEKEND THREAD
Dominic Draper replied to Eric Furiosa's topic in Numbers and Data
End of the day, was it the smartest roll out to maximize profits? Not at all. Did theatres desperately need it and welcome it? Absolutely. Nolan used his power to help out the theatrical model during a time when it looked very bleak for its future. Even if read the least generous way, he did it out of Ego, it still made a difference IMO. -

Saw Fast X in 4D. First time in 4D and I was not prepared. Felt like being on a roller coaster I had to grip the seats hahah. Movie was much better than 8 or 9. Momoa is the best villain in the franchise. It was still a bit messy, and you can feel the production issues but overall it was entertaining and fun. Hopefully the next has no production issues and with hobbs back they can fire on all cylinders. Also saw Kandahar which was surprisingly decent. I'm even a bit surprised the reviews are that low. It being from the guy behind Greenland was no surprise when you watch, since you expect a typical gerard butler action flick and actually got something with pretty well rounded characters and respectful treating of Muslims. It didn't have a ton of action, maybe thats what the disconnect is. Seeing Spider Verse Thursday and The Boogeyman on Sunday. I've been having a great time at the movies this year. Non stop releases, varied content, different genres. Really feels like the first time in a while movies feel back, and one of the better years I can of the last 4 or 5 years. -

There was this strange sudden surge of vitriol towards Nolan during covid. It all came down to IMO Nolan being against HBO max day 1 releases and liking theatres and speaking out about it. There was this strange celebration by certain people that wanted theatres to die, everything to be streaming day 1. Nolan and Dennis and the like were being labeled elitist and out of touch dinosaurs. -

The fact Tenet made 363M releasing when it did is also pretty impressive. I remember how strange it felt even being in a theater around that time. When someone coughed in the audience you could feel the tension lol. -
Weekdays (8-11 May, 2023) Thread.

The 3rd weekend will be interesting as well. How is it gonna perform against fast x worldwide? Because after Fast X its non stop competition, and if fast x takes a big bite, little Mermaid is gonna be even worse for it. But yeah, this can't afford the new mcu normal drop of 60+% because of what's coming. -
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 WEEKEND THREAD

GOTG3 will be my last Gunn film in theatres. I just don't vibe with him at all. All the problems I had with GOTG2 and TSS are prevalent here. It feels overly long, poorly paced with bizzare tonal shifts and the humour misses for 90%+ of the jokes, often repeating jokes that aren't funny the first time. The emotions are cheap and manipulative and don't do anything for me. GOTG1 is the only film hes made I got any enjoyment from and I can't help but think another writer having worked on the script and some tighter reins from Feige are the reasons.. Another huge miss for me, I just don't get it. Happy for those that enjoy.but I couldn't dislike Gunn more if I tried. -
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 WEEKEND THREAD

I'm honestly just happy there is so many movies I want to see again coming out. Last few years while there was lots of great films, releases were spread out and there was so many droughts. This year I can barely keep up. Seeing GOTG tomorrow, that'll be my 21st movie at the theatre this year already. -

There is a major film opening every week after FAST X for the next month +. We have seen films taking a hit in the face of big releases this whole year and there's about to be a major release every week, and MCU in general has become front loaded. -
Saw shazam today and thought it was surprisingly decent. After the atrocious marketing and the reviews I expected the worst but came away really enjoying it It helps that I loved the first film I suppose. Thought it was a solid 7/10. Kinda sad what's happening to it. Where as ant man 3 I thought was one of the worst CBM films in years. Anyway, I look forward to sandberg getting back into horror after this.

Yeah no. Batman 89 and TDK are not on equal footing at all. I'm not sure how you can criticize Nolans films for not being interested in Batman when returns barely had batman in it, and Keaton's batman was a raving psychopathic murderer and not at all what batman is like. For people under the age of 40 Bale is their Batman. Keaton's films are hokey and extremely dated. The time to use Keaton for nostalgia was 10+ years ago. I doubt it has much drawing power at the box office for flash but we will have our answers soon enough. If they had gotten Bale this movie would have hype through the roof.

So did rock pay deadline to make that article or something? I dont think I've seen a trade announce a film lost money, another trade come out and say it made money and a sequel and spin off is under way, and then another trade say it probably lost money and sequel is unlikely and new management doesnt like rock.
