Lion Roar replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in China At The Box Office
Jesus yet another adaptation of 倚天屠龍記. Each new version gets progressively worse. This looks like a parody. -

I guess that's Galadriel's voice? Sounds too young but then again no one can compare with Cate's powerful voice. I have low expectations after WoT but I really hope this is at least decent.

Weekday Numbers (1/3-6) | 7.9 Spider Monday
Lion Roar replied to Eric Loves Rey's topic in Numbers and Data
It's been required for NYC since September. -
Movie was good, not great. Plot mechanics were way too stupid, but emotional beats worked so well that I'm almost able to over look it. My main takeaway from this movie is what a huge wasted opportunity the ASM series was. Never cared about his movies before, but this time it really highlights how great Andrew Garfield could have been. Honestly just make him the Spider-man of the Venomverse and give the man another shot. He deserves it. Upper mid-tier MCU. Not my favorite outing of the year, but I will watch again on Sunday before I decide my final ranking.

That reminds me, Cap are you still working on your Steve/Sersi fic? I'm really curious to read it. -

Oh it definitely is. $21.5 for matinee, $27 for evening. Over 400 seats. Only the 1:30 AM show still has front rows and sides available. -

It's strange to claim that audiences are less demanding than ever. If anything audiences are more demanding than ever because there are so many entertainment options available, so movies need to make a compelling case to the general public why they should allocate their limited time and resources to go watch something in theaters. Certain genres just are not worth the expense in most people's minds. Studios and chains really need to start lowering ticket prices for dramas/non IPs if they really want people to come back to them. Also I find all this hand wringing over WSS extremely ironic since it is literally a remake of a movie adaptation of Broadway show based on Romeo and Juliet. It's about as creatively derivative as they can possibly come no matter how technically brilliant it was made. -

Even with good WoM I'm not sure how good the legs will be. This is definitely not a feel-good holiday movie, not sure how many people are eager to watch a tragic love story during Christmas. -

Lion Roar replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in China At The Box Office
At this point I am fulling expecting Turning Red to be banned for being 'insulting', The Batman for depicting police corruption/too much violence, MoM for the supernatural elements, Thor 4 and FB3 for LGBTQ elements, Aquaman 2 because someone in the main cast or James Wan said something against the CCP in the past, etc etc etc. The only franchises that will be released in a timely manner will probably be Dune and SW. I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be shocked in the least if this is what happens. -

Morbius looks and feels like a 25-30m opener. There's no buzz.
