  1. Right. I summed that up a bit too much haha. Superheroes aren't the ONLY thing doing well at the box office. And again, I know adult dramas were already dwindling but an Eastwood film (Cry Macho) can still do better. A Ridley Scott epic (The Last Duel) can still do better. I'm pretty convinced of that.
  2. True, but it wasn't always THIS bad. I still think even if the box office is back for superheroes it still has a long way to go for everything else. I myself am not afraid to go to the theatre or anywhere else - I want to move on with life - but a lot of people my age and older still are. In other words I don't think this is the true market for non big IP movies. Maybe it was already dwindling but I refuse to believe this level we're seeing is the norm.
  3. This looks intriguing. I adore the cast too. Hopefully it doesn't go the way of The Last Duel....
  4. Yeah, just looked into it. I'm surprised WB is moving it away from their trusted mid-July slot. I wonder if they have something else lined up for July....
  5. Why did I think this was coming out JULY 15?? Did they change the date recently?
  6. I'm hoping studios don't get too discouraged from making these films. It's going to be awhile yet until the box office is ready for adult dramas. I truly don't think this is a proper indication of the market for this kind of film.
  7. Good call to whoever said $4.8 million for previews for Halloween Kills! I know I read someone, or a couple people, suggest that figure in other threads. The OCD person in me just wants to say I love how there is a new fresh thread every weekend! Very organized, you guys are here. Love it! Sorry, I'm just still giddy at finding this site. Don't mind me!
  8. Sigh. That's what happens when people are obsessed with partisan politics I guess.... I hope both parties are able to resolve this soon. What I really hope is that the studios give these workers what they deserve.
  9. Oh my, the collider deepfake roundtable video is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on Youtube. I woke everyone up late at night watching that hahaha!
  10. I guess studios just love that Wednesday before Thanksgiving drop date, even for streaming stuff. The other side of this is that it's a treat to watch the first two episodes at once. Only got that with WandaVision. Anyway, really looking forward to this! The trailer looks so fun and the kids and I are loving the holiday theme. Perfectly executed by Disney and Marvel, as of now anyway,
  11. I'll just say I'm glad Nolan told WB to stuff it and brought this to Universal. Is it July 2023 yet??
  12. Let's just say this is coming out on December 17 as planned.... How many of you think this can be the 8th opening weekend over $200 million? I feel like this film has everything going for it as far as being a rare event. Like if anything post pandemic is going to hit that mark, it would be this, at least until another Avengers movie comes out.
  13. I guess I figured all Marvel movies would shit a slot. SM: NWH to March 25, DSitMoM to May 6, T: LaT to July 8 etc. etc. Let's hope it's all irrelevant and the studios and IATSE figure this out.
  14. If there's one thing that Marvel does NOT have going for them it's their CGI, both in terms of quality and reliance on it. Marvel's bread and butter is the extraordinary narrative they've created that so many people are invested in. That's what keeps me watching them anyway. In terms of quality of visuals, I go elsewhere for that. Marvel movies are treated exactly what their comic precursors are: the latest issue/chapter of the overall narrative. They're almost an entirely different thing from standard movies.
  15. What would you guess for today? 10% drop?
  16. I agree. I don't use Rotten Tomatoes at all but I'm guessing for this kind of film not many people are using it. A critic's job is always to look for something more in each movie they watch but not all movies need something more. Halloween Kills doesn't need to be much more than what it already is.
  17. Ugh, right? Oh well, like I said it was planned for October 1 (after the original June 25 date as I'm just reading now, which makes sense too because Batman films were always June films for WB before The Dark Knight and Rises moved to the Nolan July slot) so WB obviously sees this too. A lot of dates are irregular due to the pandemic. Once everything starts to smooth out I could see WB scheduling future installments in October.
  18. I sadly have not read the books. I was brought up on LotR, as most people were I guess. This looks oustanding though. We need more epics like this. I hope it can even come close to LotR....
  19. I've been making comparisons to other big-ish films around this date and that seems like a very strong number. Some films dropped 30% or more on the Wednesday after Columbus Day weekend. Good news after a fairly disappointing (relatively speaking) opening weekend.
