  1. Boy was this terrible after a decent start.
  2. I don't see word of mouth helping Abigail. Good first 30 and then it's a numbing Netflix movie, a gimmick stretched for an additional 90 minutes. I'm sure the Cinescore will be fine, in the B range, but this won't pop theatrically.
  3. FRIDAY MIDDAY: Mish mosh at the box office with A24’s weekend two of Civil War at $3.5M today/$11M+ and Universal’s Radio Silence R-rated vampire pic, Abigail with $4M today (that includes $1M previews)/$11M vying for No. 1. Lionsgate’s Guy Ritchie WWII period action pic, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, is eyeing $3.9M-$4.3M Friday (including $1.45M previews) and $9M-$11M at 2,845 theaters, but many see the movie, which is 92% with Rotten Tomatoes’ audiences, in third place. https://deadline.com/2024/04/box-office-abigail-civil-war-ministry-of-ungentlemanly-warfare-1235890123/
  4. I've seen billboards and bus ads for weeks now.
  5. Not great given the aggressive promotion.
  6. Hi, does anyone know how Boy Kills World is selling? Is it an incoming bomb?
  7. They're saying 20-25m for Abigail https://www.boxofficepro.com/weekend-preview-abigail-pacing-to-outgun-henry-cavill-for-1/
  8. Anderson is kind of an inspired choice. Let's see if she can be funny. It's mostly about playing it straight anyway.
  9. I'm so glad this won the Oscar over...well, let me not get into it bc the mods get mad when it comes to superhero stuff.
  10. It's everywhere. Honestly sub 20 would be disappointing given the push. Do you know what the (reported) budget was? I say reported bc they always love to under-report.
  11. The movie is well crafted but you walk out with a shrug.
  12. Maybe a combo of both? It did open in new territories this weekend - France, Belgium, Germany, Turkey. It doesn't have any new territories so next week's hold will be telling.
  13. A24 promoted the hell out of CW and did it smartly. Their ad on the new Roadhouse was genius. When you clicked play, the trailer played with a message about how you're getting this movie ad-free thanks to CW, and that's the only ad you'll get. Which is weird cuz if you have Prime you don't get any ads, but they twisted it into, thanks to A24's CW, you get to watch this movie add-free, after this trailer. They must have paid a sweet penny for that.
  14. Civil War is a 2/5 movie whose reviews are bolstered by the A24 logo. It's meant to be super thought-provoking but you walk out going, "ok yeah sure, but what's for dinner?" But it's not actively bad or boring so it may have decent legs.
  15. Weren't there tons of tweets saying this is the most intense movie of all time and your heart will stop and you haven't seen anything like it, it's like actually being dropped in the middle of a civil war but even more intense? My TL was bombarded with those reactions. What happened? Everyone is now disappointed and it gets a B-?
  16. Gaga hasn't proven that she is a $20M-a-role movie star yet. A Star is Born was bigger than anyone excepted and despite mixed reviews and adult movies flopping during the pandemic, she drew people to House of Gucci. But 2 movies isn't enough to justify $20M. That $12M sounds about right.
  17. Blockbuster cinema is dead. So a tentpole that looks, feels and sounds like cinema will be seen as try-hard by many people in 2024. That's not what they're used to.
