  1. It's crazy that Frozen II made nearly $1 billion OS! At least Mario should be the highest grossing non-sequel animated film.
  2. For post-Endgame MCU, I've gone to the movies to see NWH, DS2, and BP2. I'd rate them all good (but not great) movies that were fun to watch on the big screen. I skipped Thor due to reviews/WOM and had no interest in seeing AM3. I'll probably go see GOTG3 next weekend.
  3. Less than $17m away from $700m, a shame they didn't do a big final push
  4. 1 1 The Super Mario Bros. Movie $3,001,600 +38.7% -33.8% 4,204 $713 $496,017,480
  5. Wow, $1B in 26 days. Before it came out, I would've been happy with $750m WW. Universal is crushing it with animation. Disney is seething. Expecting a big drop against GOTG3 next weekend, but hopefully not too harsh.
  6. $434m (est.) by its 3rd weekend! Prior to its release, most people and the media didn't think it would reach that by the end of its run. This is phenomenal, and whether or not it reaches $600m domestic it's still going to be a crazy breakout hit, well over $1B WW, and wonderful for movie theaters and theatrical animation. It's also insane how (albeit with a few mishaps), Mario has remained so popular/culturally relevant for decades.
  7. Damn Mario. What an absolute pop culture behemoth. I saw the movie over the weekend. As a huge Mario fan for decades, I was extremely excited to watch it, albeit a bit cautious because of the mixed reviews. I can see why it got those reviews: There's certainly not a lot of depth to the story or script, and even some of the humor fell a bit flat. It's also a weird case where they crammed too much into it and not enough at the same time. There's still so much they can explore in sequels/spinoffs, given the amount of material they had to work with. That being said, as most people seem to agree, the movie is just downright fun. It's both a perfect movie for little kids who just want to see a fun kids movie, and for adults who will revel in the high doses of nostalgia (I got chills when it started). For casual viewers, it's a colorful and feel-good way to pass the time, and sometimes, that's all many people want, especially given everything going on in the world today. Given that families were starved as PIB2 was the last big animated film in theaters, and the good WOM / re-watch value (I myself can't wait to see it again to discover more easter eggs), I expect this will have good legs even after its monstrous opening. Highlights: Jack Black as Bowser (awesome!), the little blue Luma (hilarious!), and Mario and Luigi's dynamic (very touching).
  8. I can't wait to see this. Mario has been a part of my life since the 90s. I think I'm more excited than the kids
  9. I'm surprised D&D opened that high. But it seems WOM is strong. I'm surprised John Wick dropped that much. Hope it will stabilize. I'm surprised His Only Son opened at #3, a movie nobody here talked about. I'm surprised Scream 6, a horror film, had the best hold in the top 10. As a huge horror fan, I love that it's about to cross $100m!
  10. That's great. I'll probably save my coins to see Mario with my little ones but hope it does well for theater's sake.
  11. Congrats to Avatar: The Way of Money on #7 all-time domestic and #3 WW A1 + A2 are now at $5.23 billion
  12. I love this movie! But I'm a little worried about a live action remake. They definitely need to get Stitch's look right.
  13. In the end, they can each lay claim to an impressive victory. Of course, Maverick will end up a massive $800m behind WW, but still, nothing was able to top it at home.
