Ah thanks, Box Office Report had 2,150 yesterday so maybe it increased.
I love A24, but Neon have had some great horrors too (Lodge, Possessor, Infinity Pool, Titane, Immaculate). With Cuckoo and Longlegs coming, I’m glad they’re leaning into hyper violence. Hope they can keep going.
2,100 theatres and Black Bear produced for under $10m and sold distribution. $5m would be fine for an indie.
Would $5m be Neon’s biggest debut?
Great for Late Night with the Devil. Seeing it tonight!
You said they should’ve released a full trailer. That would be pretty unheard of for a big film like this just going with a full one first 6 months out with no teaser.
Maybe you meant “longer teaser”. I guess.
It gave me nostalgia. Glad they used the song.
I think here in the UK it’ll be huge with my generation at least.
I do wonder if parents are too precious/weak/boring these days to let their kids see it though.
Yes, The Predator could be a good comparison gross wise.
To be fair, I think Covenant would’ve been much better if it was just a “big scary alien killing everyone”.
I think it’s the right move to go back to slasher in space.
Yeh the 2016 one is easily my favourite too. I’m a tad too young for the first film to have any nostalgia (even though I’m 36, it wasn’t as big here in the UK - to me anyway I was watching the early 90s films on a loop instead). I thought the 2nd was boring as a kid and I skipped Afterlife.
I agree though, the first started off as a comedy by SNL actors and then because it was popular they tried to make it a blockbuster franchise and they’re still going that route, which doesn’t seem to be paying off.
So after settling at around 64% after SXSW, it’s not up to 78% with 49 reviews. Glad it’s getting a good critical reception.
2,150 theatres. Hopefully it can do decent numbers for Neon. If it can be their biggest opening that would be a decent headline for them, and it won’t take much.
Wait how does it know what colour to make things and what detail to include?
Lol I feel bad for parents sometimes, I couldn’t watch something like this.
Yeh from accounts I follow I’d say mixed to poor without seeking them out.
Empire, discussing film, Guardian, Bloody Disgusting all negative. Deadline, Variety and Screen Daily looked like they leaned positive though.
Great holds again, even for Imaginary.
Glad Wicked Little Letters has found an audience, biggest post pandemic British comedy. Excellent totals for Dune 2, Migration and Bob Marley. £264k is actually more than I would’ve expected for Drive Away Dolls considering zero promo.
Hoping Immaculate does well next weekend. It deserves to.
